Anyone else regret stuff they didn’t get done before a possible lockdown?

I’ve had a tooth niggling away at me for months now. It’s just got a lot more sore today and I’m worried I won’t get into a dentist if everything locks down.

WHY didn’t I go when I could? I mean, I’m a bit shit about the the dentist anyway but I should have bloody foreseen this and gotten over my fear and gone.

Anyone want to keep me company with any other regrets?

I've got a boot full of stuff I need to take to the charity shop and none are taking donations until after Christmas. Ordered a box dye and getting former barber DH to do my hair again so I'll survive.

DesperateDogDog · 19/12/2021 20:49

Haircut for me too argh! I'm going to grow back my normal colour ...think I last saw my real colour in about 1999Smile

This time I arranged to see my siblings today for a Xmas get together as we missed Xmas together last year! I feel relieved we got that done!

Sparklingbrook · 19/12/2021 20:53

Taking stuff or the charity shop and tip-I wished i had done that.

Nothing else. No idea if we're having another lockdown but this week I've had eyebrows/eyelashes done, been to the hairdressers, going for a dental check up and hygienist tomorrow.
We have enough loo rolls (but not too many) and I don't eat tinned tomatoes so I am not having a panic about that.

@tangyandsalty

Yes, I'm wishing we had buggered off abroad for a couple of weeks earlier in the year. We couldn't be bothered with the testing and felt confident we would get away in spring 2022. I'm no longer feeling confident.
Me too.
MrsSantaClausitback · 19/12/2021 21:52

Tooth here too! Like you niggling for weeks but really notched up today…

MangoM · 19/12/2021 22:02

I had my eye test in the summer but didn't choose two frames even though I need to as my prescription has changed.

It just felt so awkward, I had to book a slot to try them on and can't bring anyone with you so no second opinion. So I just kept putting it off. Wish I'd just done it now, wearing the wrong prescription all day long for so long can't be good for my eyes Blush

Rainallnight · 20/12/2021 08:08

@MrsSantaClausitback - Shall we make a pact to ring the dentist this morning and report back?

My dentist closed in first lockdown and when it reopened it had no nhs appointments for about 6 months, but if you could afford to pay ( I can’t) private appointments were available.

Rainallnight · 20/12/2021 09:59

I have a dentist appointment at 4pm today. So relieved and grateful. Thank you to all the dentists on this thread for the encouragement.

Nope, not getting caught out this time! All been to the dentist within the past 2 months and everyone getting hair cut tomorrow. Will be having my nails and lashes done on Wednesday.

I’m also not going to be participating in forced segregation from family members and/or friends ever again so… all good here.

Why are so many people complying considering the situation is obviously safe enough for cheese and wine without vaccines? Do you all enjoy having a fucked economy and a ruined education and future for your children?

Bizarre, mumsnet is at times.

HesterShaw1 · 20/12/2021 10:13

Why do people think "lockdowns" are acceptable? The withdrawal of essential services?

These are not things to be regretted. They're things to get fucking mad about.

CharSiu · 20/12/2021 10:14

Dentist was seen in the summer months, DH did the MN haircut on me last proper lockdown and so we have just kept on doing that as it was good. I can cut hair though I’m not a hairdresser and already had professional clippers and scissors so have always cut their hair.

I feel a bit sorry for MIL her 80th is on 23rd for her 70th she had around 15 people at a restaurant. She wanted the same but is now having just DH and his sister at home, he is then bringing her back for Christmas.

HesterShaw1 · 20/12/2021 10:14

Stop being so compliant and passive!

Sparklingbrook · 20/12/2021 10:16

Just got back from dentist and hygienist, next appointments are in March and June, wonder where we'll be with it all by then.

mildtomoderate · 20/12/2021 10:17

Stop being so compliant and passive!
You're a fool. What happens if all the doctors and nurses and hospital porters and cleaners and HCAs isolate with covid? What if you fall and break your arm then? Or find a lump? Or nick and artery and can't get an ambulance to come out?
B0J0ker · 20/12/2021 10:25

@DoctorSnortles - you can get a kit to replace fillings yourself from larger pharmacies and (probably)
Amazon/elsewhere online. They work really well, I'm equally terrible at going to the dentist and have found the kit as good as the temp ones anyway. And a hundred times
cheaper!

So, enjoy your big Toffee Pennies!! Grin

HesterShaw1 · 20/12/2021 12:28

You can call me a fool all you like @mildtomoderate.

Lockdowns are a disaster and should not be a go-to option the moment politicians get concerned our creaking health service will struggle.

Tell me what would happen to you if you had a heart attack at home and couldn't get an ambulance out because of short staffing? I mean, it's pretty obvious what would happen isn't it?
HesterShaw1 · 20/12/2021 12:43

I'm not disagreeing with you.

But this is down to poor funding, poor management, and poor governance.

It's not because people are continuing to see a dentist and get their hair cut.

It's not down to us to have to "protect the NHS" every winter by being denied access to the most basic of services, and company of other human beings.

It's down to the government to govern properly.

Fifthtimelucky · 20/12/2021 15:00

I was at the dentist last week and asked about this.

She was very clear that dentists would not be closing. She said they had had to close in the first lock down because none of them had good enough PPE.

That wasn't the case in the later lockdowns and isn't the case now. All the arrangements to keep staff and patients safe are now well tried and tested and there was no need to close. Very reassuring!

SpeckledlyHen · 20/12/2021 15:10

@TaraSiligel

Get my gel nails taken off! Does anybody know how I can do this myself? I literally cannot get to a salon
I often take mine off myself. I get cotton wool pads and tear in half, prepare my little foils (normal kitchen foil folded and torn into little squares) and acetone (boots/sainsburys/superdrug). Soak the pads in the solution, buff off the top of the gel with a nail file and then wrap the pad and foil around the fingernail. Leave for about 15 minutes and then scrape off with a wooden orange stick or similar. It's a bit of a faff but easy enough to do yourself at home.
PhantomErik · 21/12/2021 10:27

Finally managed to get the kids seen for a checkup at the dentist. They had 5 appointments cancelled over the last 20 months! All good though - no decay!

We also made the most of summer & spent a huge amount of time at the beach but I usually try to do this as I feel this helps get us through the winter.

DS 11yrs (year 7) has a computer for Christmas, I hope schools stay open & that it's only used for fun/homework but it'll make life a lot easier if home learning starts up again. Did the same for DD (now year 8) last year & she used it daily from after Christmas to Easter.
