Covid booster on Christmas Eve - side effects likely?

winteranimal · 17/12/2021 20:08

I've got my Covid booster booked for Christmas Eve. I can't change the date. If I don't attend I'll be given an appointment at some unspecified time in January. Am I likely to have side effects? I had AZ for my first two doses and it will be Pfizer or Moderna for the booster. I'm going to attend but I was just wondering how much Christmas dinner prep I ought to be doing beforehand! Grin

I had Pfizer booster and no side effects other than a sore arm for a couple of day

Bubblty · 17/12/2021 20:11

Hmm.. its a bit hit and miss. I wad fine the 24 hours after just a sore arm but then wham I was in bed for the next day.

Bubblty · 17/12/2021 20:12

That wad for my first 2 jabs tho not a booster

Boosterquery · 17/12/2021 20:12

I was so wiped out the day after my Moderna booster that I literally didn't have the energy to fetch myself a glass of water. (DH had his booster the same day as me and had no such side effects. )

LaCerbiatta · 17/12/2021 20:13

I had Moderna and felt pretty shitty for 36 hours (sorry!).

theDudesmummy · 17/12/2021 20:14

I had Moderna all 3 times and no effects at all

winteranimal · 17/12/2021 20:15

Oooh bit of a mixed bag then! DH has his appointment ten days after me. I think we're going to have to attend but what rubbish timing given the likelihood of feeling groggy afterwards! It's my baby's first Christmas and I want to enjoy it. And my five year old is so excited too. Fingers crossed we're both alright with the jabs... I imagine the vaccination centre will be quite quiet.

Ten minutes, not days!

@winteranimal

Ten minutes, not days!
I was just about to say having them on different days worked well for me and my husband as I recovered enough after mine for when his side effects hit.
rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 17/12/2021 20:20

I had 2 AZ then Pfizer for booster. I had no side effects except for sore arms for all 3.

User5329806 · 17/12/2021 20:21

DH was fine and did Park Run the next day, I on the other hand was very shivery and couldn't face any food the day after. It's very mixed

SickAndTiredAgain · 17/12/2021 20:22

So hard to say. DH and I both had Pfizer, he was fine after his first two doses (booster booked for next week), I felt pretty crap after first two and am starting to feel crap again tonight (had my booster this morning). I was in bed all day the day after both my doses with flu like aches, headaches, chills, nausea.
DM was totally knocked sideways by both her AZ doses - she’s someone who I’ve never known to take a single sick day but was off ill in bed after both. She had a Pfizer booster the other week, barely noticed it, just a slightly sore arm.

CheshireCats · 17/12/2021 20:22

I had pfizer booster 72 hours ago. Still feeling shit...

QuiltedHippo · 17/12/2021 20:24

I woke up early hours and had to get painkillers and felt hot and cold, but the next day was OK. Not best I've ever felt but would be fine for Christmas day activities. Lots of fluids and regular paracetamol and hopefully you'll be ok

HesBoughtAFuckingHat · 17/12/2021 20:24

I had a Pfizer booster yesterday having had my first two as Pfizer too. Absolutely zero side effects from the first two. Today though I’ve barely been able to get out of bed as I’ve been so exhausted and I can’t lift my arm without much pain.

MrsLeclerc · 17/12/2021 20:24

Snap! I had a text to go for mine at 6am on Christmas Eve!

I’m rearranging. I don’t want to have to get myself and 3 year old DS up at 5am to get there in time.

I was ill for days after the last 2 vaccines and I really don’t want to be ill on Christmas Day.

Katie517 · 17/12/2021 20:24

I wouldn’t, I had moderna on weds after 2 AZ and I still feel horrific today, woke up in the middle of the night drenched with sweat and have felt like I have flu all day yesterday and today. There is no way I would recommend any one to do it so close to Xmas, I also have zero appetite which would also make Xmas day pretty miserable. Most people I know who have had 2 AZ and then Moderna have really suffered. I’m early 30s and usually fighting fit the only time I’ve been ill in the last 5 years is after my jabs

Elfonthesofa · 17/12/2021 20:25

I had mine earlier this week. I've felt a bit run down and tired, but I'm also on my period which makes me knackered and it's been an exhausting week. So I can't say it's all the vaccine.

But my arm has been in absolute agony and is still sore now, although not as bad as it was the day or two after.

About10thusername · 17/12/2021 20:26

I had Pfizer yesterday. Today I've felt fine but had a very slight hangover feeling that came in waves. But nothing significant at all and I've got on with what I wanted to do today.

FreakinFrankNFurter · 17/12/2021 20:27

I had moderna booster and just had a painful arm. Hurt to lean on it or lift up, such as to head height or above.

loobylou44 · 17/12/2021 20:28

I had the Moderna on Weds after 2 doses of AZ. I felt absolutely awful yesterday and could barely function. I feel fine today apart from a sore arm and swollen lymph node in my armpit.

MrsRussell · 17/12/2021 20:29

Pfizer after two AZs. My only side effect has been that I've been continually bloody starving for the last 36 hours - literally absolutely bloody famished, couldn't sleep for hunger kind of thing.

123walrus · 17/12/2021 20:30

Moderna booster here and felt completely fine.

MeOnSea · 17/12/2021 20:31

I had Pfizer on Tuesday after 2 x AZ.

Felt rotten after AZ1, fine after AZ2, fine for 24 hours after Pfrizer, then a bit
Achy/fluey that second night (but didn’t take paracetemol), sore armpit, and a little tired since then.

Have been working throughout, would definitely have been fine for Christmas provided I didn’t over do it, and probably take a paracetamol too. The relief knowing I’ve been fortunate to have a booster this side of Christmas(booked pre Boris’s announcement) definitely outweighed my mild side effects.

woodlandarchitect · 17/12/2021 20:32

DH and I had Moderna boosters. Didn’t even feel the prick go in!

Felt fine until 3am last night, shivering, aching all over. I cried! DH had to help me settle and then I woke up again at 7am and felt relatively normal (but tired).

DH got the shivers and aches at 11am ish.

we were both fine to begin with and absolutely fine with Pfizer!
