Covid booster on Christmas Eve - side effects likely?

I've got my Covid booster booked for Christmas Eve. I can't change the date. If I don't attend I'll be given an appointment at some unspecified time in January. Am I likely to have side effects? I had AZ for my first two doses and it will be Pfizer or Moderna for the booster. I'm going to attend but I was just wondering how much Christmas dinner prep I ought to be doing beforehand! Grin

Sorry I should have said we both had our boosters at 1pm yesterday Smile

Multicolouredsequins · 17/12/2021 20:32

Had moderna booster 10am. Felt a bit rough around 10pm, broken night's sleep with pressure in head, sore arm, neck ache and shooting pains. Felt a bit rough and tired next morning, but a couple of paracetamol was sufficient to feel better. Back to normal by the afternoon. Husband had x 2 AZ jabs then Pfizer booster and was fine, just a bit tired.

MadMadMadamMim · 17/12/2021 20:34

Very hard to say. I wouldn't have it on Christmas eve, honestly.

I was fine. Right as rain, not even a sore arm.

DH, DB and BF and two colleagues all felt absolutely shit. They were all too ill to get out of bed/off sofa for between 1 and 3 days. All felt bloody awful. All of them are folks who normally soldier on and make no fuss over illness.

I wouldn't risk that with a baby over Christmas. It could be hellish.

iwishiwasonhol · 17/12/2021 20:34

I had moderna booster on tues morn felt ok ,slightly sore arm fell asleep about 6pm woke up at 10pm couldnt get warm at all ,was sick at 2am fell back asleep at 4am ,slept on and off for most of wed ,arm still sore and not much appetite

greenlynx · 17/12/2021 20:35

I had Moderna for booster at 9 am ( the first jabs were A-Z). I was absolutely fine during the day but by 7 pm was a bit tired and sleepy, but it could be tiredness and lack of sleep genuinely. I stayed in bed longer next morning and then felt a bit tired during the day but nothing major. I think it depends on what you are planning for the Xmas day. Are you going to do a lot of cooking ? Will you have guests?

JuergenSchwarzwald · 17/12/2021 20:36

I'm the same OP although mine is on 21st so I have a bit more time to play with.

When babies have vaccinations we are advised to give them Calpol before they go. So before the first AZ dose I took paracetomol, and took some more that night. I was quite headachey afterwards but that could also have been hormonal as I was on my period at the time. So it may have worked - worth a try maybe?

Can you go to a walk in early in the week? My local walk in centres been dead today, they’ve been putting messages on the local Facebook group begging people to come down. Even if you have pre-booked, you can turn up. They’ll update your records & your appointment is auto-cancelled. You don’t need to do anything!

I’ve had 3x Pfizer. Zero side effects after 1&2, felt a bit rough after 3. Nothing awful but enough to make me feel a bit lowsy & struggle to full on parent for a day!

MrsAliceRichards · 17/12/2021 20:44

Dh and I both had Pfizer for the two doses and a Pfizer booster this week. Both fine after first jab, dh felt a bit below par and tired the day after second jab, I was fine. Dh again felt a bit off yesterday after the booster but grand today. I was fine until a few hours ago and now feel a bit yuck and have a mild temperature. Dh is out collecting dd1 from the cinema, when they get home I'm going to bed and hoping I'll wake up feeling fine tomorrow. It seems to be very hit and miss, I'm quite surprised after zero reaction first two times at how I'm feeling this evening but delighted to have it done.

KateF · 17/12/2021 20:47

I had Pfizer on Wednesday after two AZ vaccines. Apart from a sore arm I've been absolutely fine. Went straight back to work afterwards and took a couple of paracetamol as advised but didn't need any more.

CaveyWavey · 17/12/2021 22:31

I had AZ for first two doses. Had Pfizer at 2.30pm, felt ok until about 11/12 the following day and had a fever for about 3/4 hours and felt a bit off. I took paracetamol so I could carry on with the day. Went to bed early and was ok except a bit tired for a few days. It didn't stop me doing what I needed to do but didn't feel my best. No sore arm at all. DH had sore arm and no other symptoms other than a bit tired. There seems to be a delayed reaction of about 12 + hours, so prep the night before and with a bit of paracetamol (if necessary) you should be good to go. I don't know anybody that has had to stay in bed after the booster.

CaveyWavey · 17/12/2021 22:32

I should add that after the first two AZ I had no symptoms at all

brightwhite · 17/12/2021 22:32

Oooh tough one.

I was ok with the Pfizer booster no issue other than a sore arm for half a day however dh was terribly ill the next day and stayed in bed all day. Fever, chills, aches, headache, weakness.

I would consider changing it tbh especially as you have 2 little ones.

grandmashotdoodlebugs · 17/12/2021 22:35

I have flu jab every year no issue.

Due to asthma I have had early Pfizer Feb/May/Dec

Felt utterly shit May & Dec. It was approx 14 hours after jab.

Lasted 2 days.

Paracetamol didn't touch it however ibuprofen did and I could just about function at home (not work)

sunflowerroses · 17/12/2021 22:36

I was fine after my first two Pfizer and had third yesterday and feel very under the weather today. I've been able to do school run but spent most of the rest of the day napping and aching. Hope it's better tomorrow.

ceeveebee · 17/12/2021 22:55

I also have mine booked in Christmas Eve - was originally supposed to have it a couple of weeks earlier but then caught covid so have to wait 4 weeks, which takes me to Christmas Eve. Next available slot is a week later. I had no side effects with my first two (AZ) so hoping will be ok. And if not then I will take the opportunity to sit on the sofa while DH and the PILs sort out Christmas lunch for once!

mnahmnah · 17/12/2021 23:03

I had AZ for first two - terrible for 24 hours after the first, fine after the second. Had my
Moderna booster yesterday, which they said is the most effective option with AZ. I’ve been feeling hungover / jet lagged all day today, coming and going in waves. Everyone i know who had moderna booster has felt rubbish to some extent the next day. Key is to get straight on the paracetamol, keep taking it, drink lots of water

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/12/2021 23:06

I’ve had three Moderna. After the booster I was in bed the whole day (last Sunday) and at one point actually cried because I felt so awful! I would change it from Christmas Eve if you possibly can, just in case.

Pattygonia · 17/12/2021 23:06

I’d echo going to a walk in if you can - here (Wales) some centres are open until 10pm and have separate queues for booked and walk-in slots. I took DS for his (booked) booster yesterday at 8pm and it was really quiet with a minimal queue for both booked and walk in jabs,
So I’d go to a walk in, either as they open or in the last hour or so if they are open late

annlee3817 · 17/12/2021 23:08

Pfeizer booster at 1pm last Sunday, felt quite tired Monday morning and felt sick, could have happily gone back to bed by lunch time, but managed through and by the evening back to normal

Pinkfluffyunicornsandrainbows · 17/12/2021 23:39

I haven't had my booster yet, i couldn't get one this week so i'm waiting till after Christmas now to avoid the possibility of feeling bad over the Christmas period. I've heard mixed things about the side effects of the booster but just don't want to risk spoiling Christmas especially after last year being so different. Do what you feel is best for you and your family. None of us can predict how our bodies will react to the booster unfortunately. A drop in this weekend or early next week would be a good option.

Scutterbug · 17/12/2021 23:40

No issues here, just a sore arm

Laufeythejust · 17/12/2021 23:46

I had mine at 830 this morning and feel crap. My arm is really sore, my groin is too, I’m shivery and my legs feel like I have done about 100 squats. I felt fine for the first 12 hours. I wouldn’t have it Christmas Eve. (I was 2 x Pfizer and Moderna booster)

toomuchlaundry · 17/12/2021 23:50

Had Pfizer booster 3 days ago (had AZ for my first 2 vaccines). Woke up on second day and could hardly move my arm. Tried to wash my hair and couldn't lift my arm up to put shampoo on my hair! Slept quite a lot too. Feel better today

PiesNotGuys · 17/12/2021 23:51

I’ve had two AZ and one Moderna.

Had a headache after the first one, felt a bit sick four hours after the moderna and have had a sore arm all three times.

Nothing to write home about though, would have been fully able for Christmas Day with all three.

CharlotteRose90 · 17/12/2021 23:52

I’m going to say don’t do it. I got offered Xmas Eve and I moved it for this reason. Every single person I know that had the az initially and then the Pfizer booster was very sick with side effects after. It’s not worth it to enjoy your Christmas.
