Covid booster on Christmas Eve - side effects likely?

I've got my Covid booster booked for Christmas Eve. I can't change the date. If I don't attend I'll be given an appointment at some unspecified time in January. Am I likely to have side effects? I had AZ for my first two doses and it will be Pfizer or Moderna for the booster. I'm going to attend but I was just wondering how much Christmas dinner prep I ought to be doing beforehand! Grin

I had Pfizer with absolutely no side effects. My friend was ill for 2 weeks. My mum was rough for a couple of days. It massively varies person to person

I had moderna after two Pfizer and I'll be honest the next day was a total wash out.

DH had moderna and was in bed the next day, still not right the day after. I had Pfizer yesterday and feel not quite right, very tired. I can function though and will be meeting my friend for a walk later.

I had no side effects nor did dp or dd, we all had az then moderna

I didn’t go for before Xmas booster because I didn’t want to be Ill. I can kind of self isolate so my risk of catching it is quite low so I’m going in the new year. Is it something you could do ? Delay it til January ?

I was absolutely fine after mine, so was DH and everyone I know.

DJ and I had Moderna boosters and were absolutely fine apart from a sore arm for 24h. The side effects do vary widely, though - there are some other threads on here about that. I'd get it ASAP though.

You need to consider your risk of catching covid is going to be higher for the next few weeks. It naturally happens when people have vaccines and why we give patients flu jabs before the flu season! No idea why more people aren't talking about this.

I had 2xAZ and then the Moderna booster. Didn't feel great the next day - sore arm, chills, slight headache and generally a bit tired and achy (weirdly, my ankle was really sore!).

I did go to bed for a couple of hours, but only because I had the option to - had it been Christmas Day I'd have managed, but maybe not enjoyed it. In saying that, I didn't have any paracetamol in the house and couldn't be bothered to go and get any, but I imagine a dose of that would have helped most of it.

Do you mean you would be better off not having the vaccine if your risk of getting covid within two weeks of it are high?

In your shoes I’d try and get a walk in earlier in the week

My husband and I have both had the booster, we had Pfizer and were fine as was pretty much everyone we know with the exception of the off achy arm. I'm also heavily pregnant and was still fine!

HairyScaryMonster · 22/12/2021 11:56

Had Pfizer booster, was worried after jab 2 making me feel terrible. Was a little headachy and hot/cold in the night but apart from that I was fine 👍

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 22/12/2021 12:03

I had a Moderna booster on Monday. Yesterday I had a sore arm. I managed a decent walk with DS in the morning but by the time I got home I was feeling quite rough - achey, a bit nauseous, general mild flu like symptoms. We watched a film in the afternoon and I snoozed on the sofa a bit. Went to bed at normal time, slept well and I feel right as rain today.
If it'd been Christmas Day I would have struggled through but I would definitely recommend getting as much done in advance as you can and preparing yourself for an afternoon snooze!

This is another situation where you'll just have to decide for yourself.

Some have absolutely no side-effects, others feel terrible for a few days.

I had shivering and exhaustion after my vaccine, so I'm not going to get 'boosted' this side of Christmas. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
