OMG! I absolutely hate the word ‘safe’

Why oh why do people use this word in association with coronavirus? I’m so sick of it I feel like punching the next person who uses it. Stay f…ing safe

Ugh "Stay safe" sends shivers down my spine and has done from the beginning.

And we are going to be able to give you less of a service but we are keeping you safe, often received from banks, utilities, etc

My In laws are all teachers, they are out constantly, football matches, parties, concerts....but they want schools closed so they can sit on their arses and do fuck all again - sorry, 'stay safe'.

And before you all start, I know its not all teachers my childrens ones were great during the second lockdown (useless during the first but we were all just muddling through then). But it is the case with my inlaws, one of whom went as far as refusing to do any teaching from home. How he still has a job is beyond me.

I suppose they are rolling their eyes behind my back , but it's just being nice and hoping people don't catch covid.

But even if they do catch it the vast majority will be OK.

"Safe" is just such a strange word to use for an illness which in most cases is relatively mild. When someone tells me to 'stay safe' I always think, well that's nice of you, but I wasn't planning on swimming with sharks or anything.

Completely agree ‘stay safe’, safety is never guaranteed. People didn’t say it before with all the other 1000s of things you can die of!

Being 'safe' has been used as an excuse for below-par 'service' for way too long now.

I don't know OP, I've often used "safe journey" when saying goodbye to people. Maybe it's just the context is used in these days.

Yes me too. Makes me want to scream.

I tell my 20 something children to be safe whey they go out anywhere as there are too many rotten people around. Especially drink spiking that is worrying in nightclubs and pubs.
They also probably hate it, but I can't help worrying about their welfare even if they are adults now.

I think it's the overuse of it rather than the phrase itself that's getting to me...nearly two years into this and almost half of all the work emails I get are still being signed off with "stay safe out there". I really have an unreasonable reaction to it now.

I can’t get annoyed about something that’s meant as a nice gesture. I don’t use the phrase myself but others have said it to me and I haven’t given it a thought.

Surely it’s just like ‘take care’ or ‘safe journey’? A parting turn of phrase.

Hate it too! Whatever happened to 'take care ' 'mind yourself ' look after yourself' etc . I never ever write it ,say it , think it .For me its up there with empty statements like 'thoughts and prayers' .
