Anyone had a PCR recently (11/12/13 Dec)? How long did it take?

It’s got very busy for testing now with Omicron obviously. I’ve had some really quick walk in tests this year (sub 12hrs) but wondering how they are doing now. Any recent experiences?

I had mine just after 12pm today so am in the anxious wait zone. I’ll start getting twitchy after midnight. I hate the waiting, I drive myself crackers with it.

I'm the exact same, we were down at half ten this morning and iv checked my emails so many times because previously they have just gone there and not to texts.

Turtles4543 · 13/12/2021 22:13

Posted one on 11th about 4pm, result back 12th afternoon

steppemum · 13/12/2021 22:16

dh tested 10 am Sunday morning, results 8 am today
dd tested 5 pm Sunday, results, 4 pm today.

So both under 24 hours.
But they always seem to be quick around here.

me and dd2 tested 5 pm this evening, so we'll see if they are as quick

ToPlayOrNotToPlay · 13/12/2021 22:17

On the 9th ours took 15hours, 11th was 43 hours, both from a drive in test centre.

LetItGoToRuin · 13/12/2021 22:19

DH got a positive PCR result today, 13 hours after taking the test at a drive-in site. Very impressed.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 13/12/2021 22:21

I tested Saturday morning, got my result text to me at 7am today.

User65412 · 13/12/2021 22:22

Posted on Friday the 10th. Still nothing. No email to say they've received it - is that a thing? Fed up of isolating!

Newrunner29 · 13/12/2021 22:23

clareykb · 13/12/2021 22:26

End of last week 12 hours and 20 mins (test at 11:00 Thursday am, results 11:20 that eve) North East England a walk in that is about 5 mins away from the regional lab (that might make a difference I think)

KnottyKnitting · 13/12/2021 22:27

I had one middle of last week. Came back in 26 hours but I work in education so not sure if they are expedited

Chr1stmasCarole · 13/12/2021 22:30

Tested 11am Friday, got the results at 6am Saturday.

MsFestiveReindeer · 13/12/2021 22:30

I tested yesterday at 11:30ish. Got my results today at about 12.
Dd1 tested at the exact same time as me. Her results came through at 6:10am.

Poppyliveshere · 13/12/2021 22:30

Yes much longer than usual and almost 30 hours here for son to come back positive

Lucythewonderdog · 13/12/2021 22:49

@OhPeeQueue

I think if you’re waiting more than 24 hours, then just go and get another one.
Ffs NO! You’d then be clogging the system even more!
IloveStrawberrylaces · 13/12/2021 22:56

I'm still waiting since last Thursday....

Idontbelieveit14 · 13/12/2021 22:58

Tested 9am this morning, nothing yet

PeachesPumpkin · 13/12/2021 22:59

Do they prioritise key workers tests?

QueenOfHiraeth · 13/12/2021 23:06

Tested yesterday at walk-in centre, just after 12 noon. No results yet

ethelredonagoodday · 13/12/2021 23:11

DS and I had ours at 4pm yesterday (Sunday) and still no results as yet. They're normally back here within 24 hours.

daiawndiolch · 13/12/2021 23:16

@PeachesPumpkin

Do they prioritise key workers tests?
I am a teacher so I doubt it.
wonderpants · 13/12/2021 23:23

Tested Sat morning, results Sunday night. About 35 hours.

Whitefire · 13/12/2021 23:30

Tested just after 11am yesterday. Email arrived 10.20pm last night (same day) however text notification did not come through until 6.20am this morning.

Megan2018 · 14/12/2021 00:08

Thanks all, really interesting to see that there’s still some relatively quick ones out there. I have had anything from 11-60hrs before and I am really hoping for inside 24 this time!

I find isolating really stressful (I’m sure everyone does) as I have an old horse that needs specialist care as she’s been very ill this year and I don’t have anyone I can properly trust to look after her, and she needs exercise. So if I’m negative I need to get back to her asap. It’s gone midnight and I can’t sleep as I’m stressing about it.

I tested positive on an LFD yesterday but this has happened twice before and my PCR’s were negative. I don’t have any of the official symptoms so I am hoping for 3rd time lucky so I can go and get my booster and crack on.

I've found the choice of test centre makes all the difference. A lot of parents here just use the closest, which is a walk in (10 mins drive, but then you need to find somewhere to park and walk down), but the results take anywhere between 24-72hrs. I prefer the drive throughs. There are 4 that are 30mins or less drive from us, and all get the results back within 24hrs. One on them is a 12-14hr turn around. Personally I would much rather drive a bit further and have a shorter wait for results.

I live rurally so don’t have that option unless I drive 1hr each way to the nearest city which isn’t very practical really. We just have 1 local test centre which is a walk-in but it has a car park attached, it’s about 15 mins from me but also very near nursery so convenient. They’ve been very quick there before but I think it depends which lab they go to. The staff told me it varies, sometimes it’s MK and sometimes near Rugby or Birmingham depending on capacities. That was last year though so could’ve changed since.

Almost 20hrs in now and going slowly mad Grin
