Has anyone been able to book their Covid booster?

Been trying for about an hour, getting a “you’re currently 6472 in the queue” message, then it cycles between NHS number / DOB / asking if I’m immunocompromised. Once I managed to enter postcode to check covid centres but then crashed again

Just wondering if anyone has been able to do it?
@RedHot22 Can't you take her to a walk in and you queue up and let her sit in the car until it's her turn?
Thanks for that suggestion and it’s one I’ve considered but the nearest walk-in is still an hour away with no appointments until Jan. She can’t walk without assistance and then there’s the issue with toilets etc. I’ve already accepted I will probably need to take time off work.

Shewholovedthethebanhills · 15/12/2021 07:22

A younger relative booked the second it went live for under-30s and the first appointment here was over three weeks away. I guess she’ll have to try a walk-in but a neighbour gave up after a 6-hour wait yesterday and it will be worse with the new age bracket added today.

SnowyChristmasWishes · 15/12/2021 07:24

I've booked mine today for Sunday

LefttoherownDevizes · 15/12/2021 07:24

Yes, got one this morning (am 40+ though, booked when still adhering to 6 month gap). Our local shopping centre has booked slots and walk ins

RedHot22 · 15/12/2021 07:27

Yes, I’ve heard there’s long waits which she just cannot do.

I’m really surprised her GP hasn’t arranged something tbh. They’ve come to the house for flu jabs in previous years but that’s all been shelved now

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 07:29

I’ve currently got two booked. I had one for the end of December then got a text from my gp surgery with slots for today. I haven’t managed to get on to the national booking system to cancel my original appointment.

mateysmum · 15/12/2021 07:35

Booked for DS this morning at 6.30am. No queue and loads of choice of times. I'm in Somerset.

RedHot22 · 15/12/2021 07:42

I’m currently in the virtual queue again

Thanks for letting me offload a bit. I know there’s nothing anyone can do. It’s just frustrating and I feel they should be prioritising the elderly

PalmLady · 15/12/2021 07:47

My phone kept doing the NHS number loop. I tried on a laptop and it went straight through to booking. I got an appointment yesterday after booking on Monday and have now had the jab. I'm 33. I hope it gets easier for everyone else, more appointments keep being opened.

OliveTree75 · 15/12/2021 08:01

I managed to book mine via website for Saturday but was going to have to travel about 45 Mins away. Then yesterday I got a text invite from my gp surgery yesterday and was able to book straight away. So have cancelled the other one. I'm 33

Itsbeenalongweek · 15/12/2021 08:04

I originally had one for Christmas week but wanted to try and get an earlier one. Quickly logged in on Saturday and managed to get one for the same day after weeks of only being offered later and into January. Both DC managed to book last night for next week. They had to queue for a bit but there were plenty of slots available once they got into the system. This is in the far SW.

Peaseblossum22 · 15/12/2021 08:11

Just went online to book my sons ( just back from uni still asleep!) had to wait 5 mins in the queue but lots of avaliability and he’s in next Monday .

All the vaccinations in this area are either at pharmacies , practically all the independent and Lloyds ones , not sure about Boots, or at big hubs. It seems to work really well

RedHot22 · 15/12/2021 08:13

We must just be in an awful area.

I’ve been in the virtual queue for 20mins

SickAndTiredAgain · 15/12/2021 08:15

Yes but because our GP surgery texted and sent a link to book with them. They were very good with the first two doses as well and invited us before our age range, I guess they were getting through people quickly.

GrumpySausage · 15/12/2021 08:16

Tried to book my DH his appointment Monday morning and we kept going round in loops. I now know his NHS number better than my own.

We got in eventually but initially the soonest it offered was 6th jan at a local centre. But then we went back in and saw another centre had opened more slots for this Saturday. So he cancelled and rebooked. The site was a bit clunky and a couple of times he had to refresh it but did work.

He's 34, east mids.

I know there's a lot of criticism but overall you had to admire the logistics of it all. Trying to book/organise/release that many spooners in such a short time, it's to be expected the website is a bit overloaded.

GrumpySausage · 15/12/2021 08:18

*appointments, not spooners!

RedHot22 · 15/12/2021 08:21

Nothing from her GP.
I check her texts regularly.

Virtual queue not moving now they’ve opened it up to healthy 18 year olds Hmm

Fuck the elderly eh

Missypuff30 · 15/12/2021 08:35

Booked yesterday (when it started working for under 30s) for my 29yo husband and he got an appointment for today. We live in a city though.

gogohm · 15/12/2021 08:37

Both my brothers have and one of my DD's. The others gp is in wakes but she's back in England (university) so we have a problem!

LefttoherownDevizes · 15/12/2021 12:01

At the vaccine centre today (big shopping centre in London) they were admitting 1 walk in to every 10 booked in people. The guy in front of us was walk in, he was still waiting as we left after checking in, being jabbed and then waiting 10 mins after just in case . .

If you do go down the walk in route I would get there (or get them to get there) as soon as it opens

luverlybubberly · 15/12/2021 12:15

Just got a text from my GP who seems to be doing 2 hours at lunchtime sessions (when they are normally closed) so I'm getting my booster tomorrow lunchtime.

Peaseblossum22 · 15/12/2021 12:55

@RedHot22 can you try from a different IP address , I’ve just fine my other son and was only in the virtual queue for 10 mins, it’s not area specific until you put in the personal details

Peaseblossum22 · 15/12/2021 12:55

We didn’t have texts just went straight to the central booking

ajandjjmum · 15/12/2021 13:03

@Joystir59

They should just run walk in centres now. Advise people by surname initials to attend specific time slots. No need for appointments then.
But that would in effect be a booking system. If people didn't turn up, there would be lots of wasted appointments.

It really is tough - although on the whole people are very understanding.

Our bookings take priority, and the walk-ins are told this and warned they may have to be patient, but they will get their jab. Most people are happy with this.

SparklingLime · 15/12/2021 13:03

I’d email her GP’s practice manager, @RedHot22 and explain the situation. And/or your CCG.
