Is anyone else still completely unvaccinated?

I know this will probably cause arguments, but I’m just wondering who else is still completely unvaccinated like myself.
Mine is due to extreme anxiety and a needle phobia.
I’m not anti vaccination and I don’t think it’s a conspiracy theory or microchip etc.
I want to talk to my GP about how I’m feeling but I can’t get an appointment Sad
Now everyone is getting boosters and I haven’t even had one, I feel embarrassed and ashamed, but I can’t do it, it’s like I need to be knocked unconscious before I’ll have it. I’ve even walked into the vaccination centre but ended up leaving after a few minutes as I had a panic attack.

I don’t know what to do.

@Saucery

I got a really sincere “thank you so much for having your booster, we know how difficult it is for some people to walk through the door” from the Nurse. So if anyone has the added worry of past HCPs being exasperated or dismissive of needle anxiety/phobia (I have) then this vaccination programme is completely different.
Brilliant well done!

After no sleep, freaking out and a lot of crying Blush at the vaccine centre, I finally managed my first vaccine this morning Grin

Kendodd · 21/12/2021 10:33

Well done @MegaClutterSlut
I volunteer there are really love it when we get people like you. I've seen people shaking, crying and terrified to even get out of the car before face their fear and get vaccinated. It's so brave.

Saucery · 21/12/2021 11:07

@MegaClutterSlut that’s brilliant, well done!

Huge congratulations to all those taking such a brave step to be vaccinated. I can imagine the feelings and brave steps you took.

I agree. My Ds (24) has had only his first jab, and I am so proud of him even for that.
It is not so simple and many difficulties, please let's not judge.

Please come back and take a bow!

VikingOnTheFridge Your understanding and empathy means so much. His MH challenges are so profound having that first jab was the first time he has been able to leave the house in 6 months. I hope he may have a second jab soon, but I am very proud, On a good day he may brush his teeth, so havig a jab was a big step.

Life is often not simple.

pinkpixie83 · 22/12/2021 20:16

I'm unvaccinated... fear of reactions due to a complicated medical history, not been able to get any help or advice from my gp. Have an appointment booked for tomorrow but I'm still incredibly unsure.

Ah thank you. And yes you should be proud! Of yourself and DS.

It's clear we could do more to support people who do want to be vaccinated but struggle due to phobias, anxiety, MH etc. It isn't good enough.

VikingOnTheFridge · 22/12/2021 20:27

@pinkpixie83 is there any support we could give you in the run up to the appointment? I am happy to check in tomorrow morning.

pinkpixie83 · 22/12/2021 20:43

I'm just worried, I really don't know what to

FOJN · 22/12/2021 20:51

It's lovely to see a thread which looked like it was going to turn into a shit show become a place of support for people. Well done to everyone who has managed to get their vaccination despite phobias and anxiety. I have a phobia, not needles and it's awful, you know it's irrational but that doesn't help.

VikingOnTheFridge you are doing a brilliant job supporting and encouraging people.

monsterflake · 22/12/2021 21:04

Me. I'm not needle phobic but my doctors is a bus ride and I have bpd, asd and anxiety that makes me struggle answering the door sometimes let alone go out. I just can't seem to force myself to make an appointment :( I very very rarely go out because of this so not at high risk of catching or spreading it but I know it still needs to be done, it's my new year's resolution

StiggyZardust · 22/12/2021 21:04

I manage a mass vaccination centre and understand how challenging and difficult it is for so many people to attend. Always speak to the staff at the centre and explain your problems. We have lots of experience helping people with phobias and will try our hardest to make things easier for you.

As in allergic reactions? The nurse did run through some basic “Have you ever had a reaction to…..?” questions at my appointments. I’m sure your vaccinator or someone else before you get to the booth would be able to answer any questions you have. Don’t worry about bothering them or holding them up, they are there to help. If it’s a reaction to the needle or afterwards, tell them that too. They will be able to adjust their practice to accommodate.

You might be better waiting until the Christmas rush is over tbh, if that’s what suits you better. Bus quieter, vaccination centre less busy etc. I know the more people vaccinated the sooner the better but in the circumstances you’ve described I can see how getting there would appear an impossible task. Control, control, control - that can be the most important thing to get someone through the barrier of phobia or anxiety. I wish you well and hope you find a way to get there Flowers
VikingOnTheFridge · 23/12/2021 20:49

@pinkpixie83 how did it go today? Hope all is well.
