Are they going to let us order more than one poxy box of lateral flow tests at a time?

We’re a family of 5 doing daily LFTs (keep coming into contact and had family members test positive) I’m fed up ordering boxes every other day. Must cost a lot in postage. When are they going to let us order sufficient for the household ffs.

Can you not pick them up from other places too e.g. I can get them at my local sports centre

Iggly · 12/12/2021 22:27

I agree!

It’s worth doing the collection ones as well. I get a collection code from sainsburys and they give two boxes instead.

Iggly · 12/12/2021 22:27

Do you have a DP? Or DH? They could also order.

Kummerspeck · 12/12/2021 22:28

You can pick them up at chemists and other places. Last time I got some they gave me 2 boxes

FenceSplinters · 12/12/2021 22:28

Are your children at school? If so, they could ask for more tests. We have boxes and boxes of them lying around.

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 12/12/2021 22:34

Have you tried the pharmacist?

Or if there are 5 of you then is there another adult who can order too? You get 7 in a box so once you've done it every day for a bit you'll build up a stockpile.

gogohm · 12/12/2021 22:37

I wish they would, there's 5 of us from next week and we all need to test 3 times due to events. I'm ordering them every 3-4 days currently

Cookerhood · 12/12/2021 22:39

Nowhere near us had any today. We had to go & pinch some from friends in order to attend a lunch.

FabricedeSauveterre · 12/12/2021 23:15

I get two boxes at the chemist too, I just think they should let us order sufficient for a week for the household without having to put details in again! Am separated from DH but order in his name to be delivered to his house to test kids there as well as he is sodding useless, I know I should leave him to it but then they wouldn’t get tested when staying there.

We used to get boxes of 24 from work, testing 2x a week meant only having to collect every 12 weeks, we've now switched to the same government scheme as everyone else, I agree it seems so inefficient posting 7 at a time, there should be options for how many pple are in your house and then you should just get sent a bigger box, with say a months supply in.

This is seriously so bad for the environment

BoundariesAlready · 13/12/2021 00:18

Would a tour of town centre chemists and doctors surgeries be possible for you?

cavestory · 13/12/2021 00:35

I order a new box daily, and also order for my DM - I'm building up a stockpile as I expect they won't be free eventually. If you have a relative/neighbour who is happy to let you use their address you can order a box to be delivered to them whenever you order one? I know that if you try to re-order with the same email then they don't allow it more than once every 24 hours, but not sure what happens if you used a different name and email at the same address. May be worth trying?

This is going to sound bonkers and as if I’ve been living under a rock but we’ve never had any or done them.

Where do you order them from?

Driposaurus · 13/12/2021 05:05

@Peridot1o (online through the link above) or in a chemist (though you need a code online first - takes about a minute to sort).

Peridot1 · 13/12/2021 05:15

Thanks @Driposaurus. Have ordered a pack. I’ll get DH to order some too.

Whichcatthatcat · 13/12/2021 05:17

I have only ever had 1 box, but I just picked it up from the local chemist. No ordering or codes needed. Has this changed now?

Driposaurus · 13/12/2021 05:27

Yes, I usually get them by post but passed a chemist the other day which had a poster up with a QR code. Scanned that, followed the instructions, and I received a code I needed to pass on to the chemist. Was really quick.

What would you do, allow the virus to spread faster? What is the environmental impact of a single additional ICU stay?

So is needing hospital treatment for covid when numbers balloon as people don’t isolate. Thinking they’ve got “just a cold”
arcticfoxed · 13/12/2021 07:42

You can order every day, it takes two minutes online, is that really such a problem?

crochetmylifeaway · 13/12/2021 07:47

I pick them up from pharmacies. I ask for more boxes. They give me one for each household member so I end up with plenty. Too much to store really but it saves me going back too soon or ordering more.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 13/12/2021 08:08

Friend of mine works in fulfilment

They deliberately restrict how many and how often people can order to stop the Disproportionately Worried from ordering dozens of boxes at a time so they can test multiple times a day. (I’m not exaggerating that, they get people calling up and asking apparently.) It’s to make sure there is enough for everyone.

And yes all the plastic is bad for the environment. As is the fact they are manufactured in China and shipped over. But until someone invents a corn-derived biodegradable testing tube — which won’t happen, too expensive — we’re stuck with it.
