Household case - how long did it take for other members to catch it?

Hi,

Our DS (3) tested positive on Friday completely asymptomatic. Both me and DH tested negative but obviously have been unable to isolate from him.

Just looking for experience in how long it took for it to go around households if at all as were really hoping not to be in isolation for Christmas Day 😫

Ds had it, no one else in the house went on to test positive and we carried on as normal at home with one another

joysmoy66 · 12/12/2021 22:00

4 out of 5 of us caught it 3/4 days apart one after the other☹️

DirtyDancing · 12/12/2021 22:00

Our BFFs didn't pass it onto each other.

The Mum had it & no other positives. Month later 8 year old DS had it & no other positives. It's possible not to pass it round. It's bloody strange IMO!

Tatum1234 · 12/12/2021 22:02

Ds tested positive on the Friday, I tested positive 9 days later on the Sunday. Two other children were positive in between us. Dh avoided it.

GoodnightGrandma · 12/12/2021 22:04

My sister had it, her daughter and husband didn’t get it.

Locomelon · 12/12/2021 22:07

Do you not just assume the negatives in the household are false negatives? I've heard so many cases of only a few in the household testing positive and I just don't get it. When we had it, 3 of us tested positive (me, DH, DD2) but DD1 was negative. I just assumed she hadn't stuck the thing far enough up her nose and isolated her as if she had it too??

Jumpingintochristmas · 12/12/2021 22:08

DH and DD tested positive on the same day. Other two DC’s and I never caught it. All carried on a ms normal in the house with each other.

We all isolated too to be sure.

I am worried about the whole Christmas isolation thing too! I tested positive yesterday, and whilst I am trying my best to keep away from everyone it's bloody impossible! Also, I keep thinking that surely they would have caught it from me on Friday anyway before I knew..

Part of me is thinking it's better to stop trying and just let it catch on so at least we all have it together . But I know that sounds like madness...

Our time line

Wednesday 1st dec - Dp had close contact at work with someone that had covid without realising

Friday 3rd - Dp has negative pcr

Sunday 5th - Dp tests positive on lft and then pcr

Friday 10th - Ds tests postive

Today sunday 12th I test postive on lft. awaiting pcr results.

Youngest Dd still fine.

In our case, Dp never isolated in one room as we don't have the space.

Metalhead · 12/12/2021 22:16

DD2 tested positive on the Saturday, DD1 the following Monday, me on Wednesday and DH Friday.

Penny31 · 12/12/2021 22:33

1 out of 4 got it, the rest remained negative. No social distancing, bed shared etc. Totally expected to get it!

stripeymonster · 12/12/2021 22:36

Four days between dd and dh then four days between dh and I. Youngest two didn't test positive but did have symptoms.

Darbs76 · 12/12/2021 22:36

It took me 2 days for symptoms to begin, another 3 to show positive. DD was on day 9.
We are now back in this position, DP is positive - we are hoping other 3 of us have immunity (he was working away in Aug when we had it). His brother who be caught it from, it’s spread through his household of 7 within 6 days

Polkadotties · 12/12/2021 22:37

My OH had it. I didn’t catch it. The only thing we did differently was sleep in different bedrooms.

PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2021 22:38

I tested positive five days after dh did.

pourmeanotherglass · 12/12/2021 22:40

DD has just had it, DH and i stayed home with her, she is now recovered and out of isolation and neither of us caught it. We've both had booster jabs.

honkytonkheroe · 12/12/2021 23:02

My husband had it and me and 2 children didn't get it. Much later my son got it and no one else. On neither occasion were we trying to keep separate. Hopefully it won't go any further.

SayYouDontMind · 12/12/2021 23:04

DS tested positive on a Monday (in August) DH tested positive same day - both confirmed via PCR by the Weds. Me and DD (who attends same large School as DS) didn't get it. Tiny house - hard to isolate. DS not vaccinated (aged 17 and did his research and was nervous about myocarditis) - DH double vaccinated (now triple vaccinated and obviously has actually had it now and was poorly with it but came through it) We had exactly the same conversation taking our DD for her 1st vaccination today after reading that 2 X doses of AZ gives 0 % protection against Omicron. It's going to be a LONG time before it seems our DD will have any of the benefits of the vaccine whilst being exposed to the risks ( as small as they are) It will be another 3 months before she can get a 2nd vaccine and who knows where we will be then. Hopefully Omicron will become the dominant strain and it will prove to be a mild, winter cold illness. I know it might not be the case but I'm keeping everything crossed and staying indoors as much as I can.

Forgetaboutme · 12/12/2021 23:06

My son had it recently but none of the rest of us caught it. I gave him plenty of cuddles etc but just didnt spread.

Wizzbangfizz · 12/12/2021 23:07

Me and DC2 had it, DH and DC1 never got it, no isolating away from each other either

Wizzbangfizz · 12/12/2021 23:07

Also my very good friend DD had it, she and her 3 sons and DH didn't catch it - daily LTF.

Sparkle275 · 12/12/2021 23:08

Hope your DS is ok. My DD tested positive on a Tuesday, 3 of us on the Thursday and 1 on the Friday so all in the same week.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 12/12/2021 23:10

DS (2) had it and nobody else got it. Few months later dd (6) had it and nobody else got it.

No distancing at home at all as they’re so young and needed lots of cuddles while feeling poorly.

Dancingalong · 12/12/2021 23:10

My 2 children had it, neither my husband or I caught it.
