To think we just need to use the nightingale hospitals?

The (seven I think) nightingale hospitals that were built last year precisely for COVID have barely been used. Why can we not just set these up again and transfer COVID patients to them freeing up normal hospitals for usual things? My understanding was the army was going to he used to staff them, why can this not happen now??
I understand the importance of not overwhelming the NHS but there doesn't seem to be an end game plan anymore, we can't keep having restrictions forever. At some point surely everyone will get COVID and it seems you can get it multiple times. Is it not better then to use our resources to enable the NHS to cope with the inevitable rather than spending huge amounts on lockdowns?

Unless you staff them with prisoners...or refugees..its probably a no go..NHS staff are burning out and off with stress. There are no surplus trained staff in this country

There are plenty of sailors and pilots sat around crocheting blankets, who could be doing it.

There is still one in use in my city for vaccinations. Got my booster jab there yesterday. Wouldn't want to be an inpatient there; it's basically an industrial storage block with some cardboard walls added to make "wards".

@junglejane66

Why's it always only the army, what about the RAF? They always seem to get off lightly. Fly in, fly out and home in time for bacon and eggs! Glory boys, all of 'em
Another thread was saying that military personnel were unsavoury people. And on this thread they are our heroes and able to transcend their training and roles to that of intensive care medical staff

Let's hope no unsavoury foreign power sees the armed services being denuded by their COVID and simultaneous HGV driving and launches an invasion with triple-vaccinated troops and fancy pants HGV vehicles.

Perhaps some research into why the armed services don't catch COVID might be helpful.
