new self isolating rules

Hi

I was with someone a couple of days ago who as now tested positive for covid. Under the new rules brought out earlier toay, I need to self isolate whilst I am waiting for my PCR results to come back, and even if the results are negative, I still must isolate for 10 days.

Does anyone know how to count the days? I presume you start counting the 10 days from the day you receive your results? Even if I have a negative result, I could get symptoms further down the line. However, the person I was with had the symptoms the very next day. I currently have no symptoms

So how are we supposed to know whether it’s suspected Omicron or not?? I sat with someone for quite a while this week - pretty close - and have heard they have now tested positive. I have heard nothing from test and trace to warn me or to check if I’m double jabbed etc So have they decided I’m not a close contact or what? I would consider I am.

Test and trace will be in touch if they think you’re a contact, most likely by text or email. Until then, you’re not officially considered a contact. Maybe the person didn’t give your details or maybe you didn’t meet the exposure criteria.

You can book a pcr as a contact without needing t and t to get in touch.

@essexgirl58

The rules in Engand say you need to isolate whilst you are waiting for your pcr test results. Then when you get your results, obviusly if it is positive you isolate. If it is negative that negative means this

A negative result means it’s likely you are not infectious.
But a negative test is not a guarantee you do not have COVID-19 and there’s still a chance you may be infectious. You should follow advice on how to avoid catching and spreading the virus.

So thereore if as the above says, you coul still be infectious with a negative result so it is wise to still isolate but then in a few days time if you get no symptoms then you are guaranteed to be no danger to anyone and can mix again. My work colleagues son was negative and 5 days later got covid symptoms took another pcr test and was positive. Therefore that means that you should still isolate to see if in a few days time you get any symptoms. Common sense really. I would not want to go near anyone who had been exposed to someone who tested positive and they took a test and it was negative. I would want some guarantee that the negative result really was negatnve and you only truly fin that out by waiting a few more days after the negative result.

I can’t understand if you genuinely don’t understand the rules or if you just don’t agree with them so you’re making your own up? If you have a negative PCR you don’t need to isolate, if you’re double jabbed. That’s the rule. Isolate if you want.

@essexgirl58

ok my PCR test came back negative However, I could still develop symptoms in a few days time so that negative result means nothing. I am not in the clear to mix with anyone yet

How long do you usually wait to see if you develop symptoms before you can honestly say you are not a risk

You don't need to isolate OP. You're making rules up at this point!

If it's Omicron, the person with the positive PCR would have been told in their text/email that it's suspected to be Omicron, which would then be followed up with a confirmation by phonecall.

@BarefootHippieChick

The gov are voting next week that if you do come into contact with a positive case you don't have to isolate as long as you do daily LFTs and they're negative.
Is this is England?

Fully Vaccinated but fully confused!

BarefootHippieChick · 12/12/2021 13:39

Yes daisyNGO

Sorry, i should have added that's only for the new Omicron variant, obviously you don't have to isolate anyway with others.

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 13:39

I've heard rumors of a press briefing today but can't find anything online ?

harridan50 · 12/12/2021 13:41

BBC news daily lateral flow tests are all that is required

PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2021 13:42

Nothing has actually changed yet @DaisyNGO

Just continue following the rules as linked to above.

It might change next week to double vaccinated omicron contacts who currently have to isolate even though they’re vaccinated being able to do a daily lft instead. The details aren’t out yet

DaisyNGO · 12/12/2021 14:31

In my case the person I was in contact with does not have Omnicrom so I am fine. I am staying home until Wednesday morning when I have an appointment to attend. I feel fine except for a cold but that has nothing to do with covide.
