new self isolating rules

Hi

I was with someone a couple of days ago who as now tested positive for covid. Under the new rules brought out earlier toay, I need to self isolate whilst I am waiting for my PCR results to come back, and even if the results are negative, I still must isolate for 10 days.

Does anyone know how to count the days? I presume you start counting the 10 days from the day you receive your results? Even if I have a negative result, I could get symptoms further down the line. However, the person I was with had the symptoms the very next day. I currently have no symptoms

If you are double jabbed you don't have to isolate unless it's the Omicron variant.

redandwhite1 · 11/12/2021 06:46

They might be in wales /
Scotland so they do regardless of the strain

I think you count the days since you came into contact with them

redandwhite1 · 11/12/2021 06:49

Oh and you only have to isolate if you live with them btw (wales & Scotland)

Imfedupwithallofthis · 11/12/2021 06:50

Officially Test and Trace should contact you.
But as a guide, day of contact is day 0, then 10 full days.

I think it has to be assumed that all cases are Omicron very, very soon, if not already.
TheRealMrsMorningstar · 11/12/2021 06:52

Why do you need to isolate if the result is negative?

trumpisagit · 11/12/2021 07:00

@TheRealMrsMorningStar in case you are brewing it.
10 days seems a long time though.

Lifeispassingby · 11/12/2021 07:05

You only isolate if you are positive otherwise you don’t need to. I would also do lateral flow tests daily if PCR is negative x

Not true in Scotland, and doubt it will be much longer for England.

Aren't the new rules for Scotland? Government site hasn't changed yet for England.

The gov are voting next week that if you do come into contact with a positive case you don't have to isolate as long as you do daily LFTs and they're negative.

IncessantNameChanger · 11/12/2021 11:01

This is what I find some confusing for everyone.

Why couldnt they just stock with what ever scales of rules they had before like the tiers or the peri peri 🤣 scale? If there was rules consistently we moved up and down through then it could be understood better.

I'm not currently watching the news so I didnt know Scotland or Wales had changed.

BarefootHippieChick · 11/12/2021 11:03

Tbh it can be confusing living in the UK as often news headlines scream NEW RULES FOR THE UK!! but then forget to add that it's only one particular country within the UK, not all of them 😂

essexgirl58 · 11/12/2021 11:20

regardless off wehre you live and I am in Englan you nee to self isolate even if you have a negative result because even if it is negative you coul later on have covid and be positive which means you are still infectious.

My work colleagues son came into contact wit someone who tested positive. Like me he had to get a PCR test. His test was inconclusive. He felt fine with no symptoms. He got another test dont which was negative. He still had no symptoms 5 days ater he had contact with ths person who tested positive he got a vrey high temperature an lost his sense of taste. So just because you feel ok for a couple of days means mothing. However the person I had contact with felt very unwell with a very high temperature the day after I saw her but everyone is iferent.

I do a volunteeer job which involves looing after some babies so I do not want to put them at any risk becaue that would be irresponsible so the sensible thing to do is to self isolate for 10 days

Your making a personal choice about needing to isolate. The rules state, in England, that you have to isolate if youve been exposed to omicron. Two colleagues have tested positive this week and neither has been told of its Omicron or not so we all continue to work, go to school and do our Christmas shopping until told otherwise.

It's important that people are aware of the rules and not the extra mile some people are choosing to go to.

musicalfrog · 11/12/2021 12:03

Since you're making up the rules for your own situation, you can probably decide for yourself how to count the days. Confused

If it was for Omicron though, day 0 would be the day you first had symptoms, contact with a positive case, or a positive test.

FreeBritnee · 11/12/2021 12:14

Can anyone link to these new rules? I thought they only applied to Omicron.

SagittariusDwarf · 11/12/2021 12:16

You don't have to isolate OP.

BarefootHippieChick · 11/12/2021 12:30

Yes, this. Isolate until you personally feel you're not risking anyone else.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 11/12/2021 12:36

Ummm in England if double vaccinated , unless told otherwise by track and trace, you don’t need to isolate as a close contact.

liveforsummer · 11/12/2021 12:45

It only applies to close contacts identified after midnight last night (if in Scotland) unfortunately I've just missed the cut. Dd tested positive on ltf thursday evening. Left it til Friday morning to test us all. Dc positive me negative. If I'd tested us all Thursday I'd have for results yesterday and I'd be free as results arrived this morning I'm not trapped 😫. You'll be ok.

liveforsummer · 11/12/2021 12:47

On hints in England then no you don't have to isolate unless contacted and told you are an omicron contact which would have happened by now. It's not irrelevant where you live it makes a big difference the rules are different and have only changed in Scotland (so far)

liveforsummer · 11/12/2021 12:48

It's also only household members not all contacts
