What IS the fuss about omicron?

In all seriousness, data shows that not a single person has died from omicron and that’s in countries that have low vaccine uptake too.

The virus is going to mutate all the time and as things are showing this variant is very contagious and the vaccine doesn’t work as well against it, but it’s mild to almost everybody.

I feel like this is mass panic and for what reason?! I understand wearing a mask where applicable to help reduce the spread but I just don’t get it! Is this going to happen every winter forevermore?

Nice to be called a coward for having an underlying condition and getting very ill despite vaccine though (but thankfully not more ill). Try empathy. My children who are also CV will be vaccinated once it’s approved.

Many of the restrictions have become ingrained in people’s heads through fear. I’ve had a lunch cancelled this weekend because a friend doesn’t want 3 other people in their home. All adults fully vaccinated and boosted.

Is it 'fear' (very dismissive attitude towards a 'friend') or is it just a desire to avoid being in isolation over Christmas? The vaccinated and boosted thing is not much relevance in terms of spread, sadly, with Omicron. If you get covid, you miss Christmas.

There were posts on these thread that were very offensive and were up for about 5 hours before they were removed.

Shouldn’t Mumsnet being doing more to remove these posts and monitor their Covid threads? The misinformation on here is rife. I don’t think you can simply rely on other posters to report, when misinformation is so harmful right now.

When I say ‘here’ I mean across many of the Covid threads.

I agree @Beadebaser the covid misinformation is very strong on MN.

@rrhuth Thing is, I’m on here debating - but I think it’s more because I’m pretty shocked by some of the things that are said - and I feel I need to say what I feel is right. It’s not for pleasure, it’s actually quite distressing to read what is allowed here.
