Did your periods go a bit odd when you had COVID?

Or the vaccine, for that matter. I'm double jabbed and didn't notice any unusual/untimely bleeding with either jab. However, I've tested positive for COVID this week and have started bleeding lightly, despite ostensibly being right in the middle of my cycle (ie at ovulation). This amount of bleeding at this time in my cycle is not normal for me and makes me suspect that the infection has something to do with it. I've read rumblings to this effect in the news but nothing definite.

Anyone else experienced this?

Yes. After having covid my period carried on for many more days than is normal for me, very lightly. It was odd. Seems okay now but then I have only had one other period since that extended one, so I guess time will tell.

How interesting

I was a bit surprised that they're not taking the opportunity to collect symptom info in the NHS covid app, tbh - I know the Zoe COVID app does, but to have that functionality in the Actual NHS one would be great. Such an opportunity wasted for real world data collection...

Yes. Currently have covid and period arrived 12 days early.

QueenFool · 09/12/2021 22:36

Yes I also started my period mid cycle when I had Covid. Unheard of with me, like clockwork usually

Also had a couple of mid bleeds since, and probably long Covid too even though my initial infection was mild.

Alpenguin · 09/12/2021 22:39

I had covid in march 2020 and my period stopped at the end of April. It didn’t start again until October/November. It was the only positive bit about having covid- not pregnant and no period, was bliss! . I also lost my hair during that same time which was less positive. I had no period reaction after all three vaccines.

BusMum79 · 09/12/2021 22:46

Interesting. I used to have v heavy periods but got the mirena put in in Sep 2019 after DC3 was born. All bleeding stopped at that point and that remains the case - except for the 3 months when I had profound loss of taste and smell with Covid in March - May 2020, when I bled every single day.
Smell / taste confusion etc lasted a total of 7 months for me (am CEV so could have been worse) - but the day I started to get some
semblance of taste and smell back, the bleeding stopped again. So weird. Have spotted slightly after all three vaccines- very mild.
Weird.

Really interested to hear this. I had COVID at about the same time and my periods for the following three months were bizarre. One was literally just a single hush of slightly blood stained water. And my hair started falling out. I also had hot flushes. I wonder if it messed with my thyroid.

DinosaurOfFire · 09/12/2021 23:09

Yep, my period stopped midway (not unusual for me these days) then when it restarted the texture changed to more clotting- won't go into to much detail, but it was very different to normal- not heavier or lighter, just different. I found after the vaccines mine were a little heavier but not the same difference as when I had covid itself.

ScabbyHorse · 09/12/2021 23:16

Yes. Mine came ten days early after my first jab. Never been early in about 15 years.

Thegreymethod · 09/12/2021 23:21

Mine were normal after covid but ever since my first vaccine they've been awful, every couple of weeks, I went to the dr about it and she said it's been a common issue since the vaccines started.

middleager · 09/12/2021 23:24

Yes. I missed one period after Covid.
It's regular again now.

Crapoldwardrobe · 09/12/2021 23:25

Yes my periods are heavier and so far had 4 periods in 1.5 months
Bit of hair loss too

lashy · 09/12/2021 23:28

Yes. I had Covid early November and my next period was 4 days later than expected - it's normally bang on 28 days, so although 4 days does not sound like much, I was beginning to wonder what was happening.
It was also heavier than usual and lingered on for 3 days more than usual.
I hope next month sees a return to normal.

Skippingabeat · 09/12/2021 23:33

I've had the Mirena since 2014 and have only had brownish spotting every few months.
Had Pfizer vaccine in March and April which didn't affect my period. Had Covid in Sept and am now on my 3rd period with red blood bleeding since then, each period lasting 3-4days.

bookbuddy · 10/12/2021 00:07

Yes mine were all over the place! My tracker app had a difficult time for 3 months, lots of hair loss too which is still on-going.

HadaVerde · 10/12/2021 00:10

Yes.

I’ve had more frequent longer periods and lately much less frequent (every 8 weeks) but have just now started my period 3 weeks after the last.

XenoBitch · 10/12/2021 00:22

I have had a few months of weird periods (have always been bang on 28 days), so I do wonder if I have had Covid but asymptomatically (or at least not the big 3 symptoms... also had weird gastro issues too that a lot of people have reported).
I can't afford an antibody test to find out either way.

Pickles89 · 10/12/2021 01:08

Yep. With the first (Pfizer) I was early (I am NEVER early!) and had absolutely killer PMT for the next 2 or 3 months. After the second I was fine!

Underparmummy · 10/12/2021 06:06

I have had mirena for years, no breakthrough bleeding ever, even at changeover. Had bleeding with both AZ jabs, when dd had it, now that dh has it and another time that dd2's school year was riddled with it (but she never tested positive).

I have never had covid though. Didn't have bleeding with Pfizer booster either.

Dumpypumpy · 10/12/2021 06:38

Yes I thought the whole covid vacc affecting affecting periods was a load of nonsense but recently I have had asymptomatic covid and a booster at the same time and my period started a week early. which has never happened in all my time tracking my periods , which is decades

pcofmushu · 10/12/2021 06:39

I haven't had COVID, but my periods the next few cycles following my vaccines were odd. Longer and heavier than usual. And more painful! Seem to have settled now though.

polkadotpixie · 10/12/2021 06:51

Hmm, nothing major but now I think about it, I have had spotting for a few days after my period since getting my jabs. Although not this cycle so maybe it's settling down

ComDummings · 10/12/2021 06:54

Yes, I was on my period when I had covid, then my next one was only a couple of weeks later. It’s very unusual for me to ever have such a short cycle.

Bananarice · 10/12/2021 07:00

I had a three month long period, in January when I had covid. However, it also coincidence with my second period after birth. I was breastfeeding and I have hypothyroidism. Gp gave me iron tablets and two different tablets to try and stop it (they also tested for pregnancy and it was negative just like I told them).

My period went back to normal afterwards. Just that one crazy long cycle.
