Did your periods go a bit odd when you had COVID?

Or the vaccine, for that matter. I'm double jabbed and didn't notice any unusual/untimely bleeding with either jab. However, I've tested positive for COVID this week and have started bleeding lightly, despite ostensibly being right in the middle of my cycle (ie at ovulation). This amount of bleeding at this time in my cycle is not normal for me and makes me suspect that the infection has something to do with it. I've read rumblings to this effect in the news but nothing definite.

Anyone else experienced this?

My first period after my first vaccine was delayed by approx 2 months. After my second vaccine it was early. Had Covid in October and my period is about a month late this time. Very frustrating

Livingthedream89 · 10/12/2021 07:11

Both vaccines impacted my cycle. First jab I came on a week later and second jab a week early. It's why I am not having the booster as we are hoping to try for baby number 2 and I am only just back into a rhythm. Hopefully there is research looking into it.

CooDeGrass · 10/12/2021 07:15

Yes, I think I had covid in March 2020 and my usually very regular periods stopped completely for a couple of months, before going back to normal.

No issues after 2x AZ, booster yet to come

Redsparklybucket · 10/12/2021 07:15

Yes, had my period end of October then had covid and still not had a period, no chance I’m pregnant.
Am never this late but am mid 40’s so there may be other things at work!!

Immunetypegoblin · 10/12/2021 13:22

Clearly not just me then!

My period has properly kicked in this morning, it's flooding 😕

I've noticed some brownish discharge about a week after mine finishes since the 2nd jab.

shreddednips · 10/12/2021 13:36

I'm not eligible for booster yet but both vaccine doses sent my periods a bit wonky for a while. I didn't track them but from memory, I think I had two periods much further apart than usual and then everything went back to normal after each dose. I don't think there was anything else unusual about them apart from the cycle length.

I was talking to my mum about this the other day and trying to explain to her that the period issues are probably off putting for women TTC. We aren't planning a second for another 6 months or so, so I'll get my booster and hopefully it'll be back to normal by then. I also hope that there is some research going into finding out why this happens- it would be very reassuring to know the reason for it.
HadaVerde · 10/12/2021 14:31

Shreddednips

I am 47 and my baby making days are over but if I were wanting to conceive I would be very hesitant to get the jab but also worried about catching Covid as that seems to have an affect on menstrual cycles too.

Motheroftigers · 10/12/2021 14:35

We have had quite a few ladies in our clinic that have had disrupted cycles after they had the jab.

Its really interesting to hear that your were disrupted because of the actual virus.

Onegingerhead · 10/12/2021 14:41

Nope. My periods were fine when I had covid (was luckyto have them both simultaneously) and anytime after.
Had 2 Pfizer’s as well (after covid) and it didn’t mess it up either.
Other nasty side effects after the second jab, but not this, luckily..

Jennifer17 · 14/12/2021 18:10

It’s a strange virus covid... I’m 47, get my periods every month. Had covid in mid November & now my period is 6 days late. I’m never late....

Riomama · 14/12/2021 21:24

My period started the day after a positive PCR- it was on time- but it was quite different to my usual periods. Just lots and lots of clots for two days- I was getting a bit worried but then it calmed down and went back to a more normal bleeding. I only just finished my covid isolation, so too early to know if future cycles will be affected! I hope not!!

Receptionclass · 14/12/2021 21:26

Yes both jabs and second time I caught COVID delayed my periods. First time I caught it didn't do anything.

Bettalife · 14/12/2021 22:34

Yes. I’ve had the Mirena coil on for a year. No periods for the last six months. Got Covid last month and bled for a week.

user1471443411 · 14/12/2021 22:42

Yes, I've been surprised right from the start that they're not collecting info on symptoms of cases/suspected cases just for research into the condition (not just periods, but all sorts of symptoms).
I had an earlier but much heavier period right at the start of covid, then barely anything for about four months, then gradually got back to normal, then had vaccine and period disappeared/really light again. Yet to be seen if it returns to normal.

That's interesting, mine was super clotty. Apparently COVID has been linked to triggering coagulation (thus posing a thrombosis risk). I did wonder if that was possibly kickstarting periods early, admittedly with minimal scientific basis though!

Those with issues post vaccine should yellow card it

yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

Vaccine 1 led to a period with symptoms equivalent to miscarrying. I have not been in that much pain in a long time.

Theonlyoneiknow · 14/12/2021 22:55

I have only had 3 periods since the vaccine in April.

noscoobydoodle · 14/12/2021 23:03

Reading with interest as have covid and also a surprise period arrived a week early which never happens. No change after either jab (not boosted yet due to covid).

sbardy18 · 15/12/2021 09:12

I was pregnant when I caught Covid for the second time last year and I sadly miscarried a few weeks after. It was very early pregnancy when I contracted Covid so I wasn't aware until I had very heavy bleeding and had a confirmed completed miscarriage at the hospital. As a result of this I waited before getting my jabs until after giving birth to my rainbow baby. I had my fist jab when she was 11 days old and the second with ink 3 months but my period returned 2.5 months post-partum even though I mainly breastfeed my baby.

DinosaurOfFire · 17/12/2021 10:58

I commented previously in the thread about my period changing at the end while I had covid. And now this month I was late by about a week and am also never late. My periods have been like clockwork since they started with the exception of the adjustment after stopping breastfeeding, even then it just took 2 cycles to snap back into my like-clockwork pattern.

cleantheshelfaftertheelf · 17/12/2021 23:10

Not had covid but after the first 2 vaccines (6 months apart) there were changes to my cycles and after the first vac I didn't ovulate that month.

Had the booster and first period is full of little clots- never had this before and it's why I was researching this.

Hoping to ttc too!

RMS0209 · 30/01/2022 21:44

@RhubarbTea hello sorry to bother do you remember roughly how long your period lasted when you had covid? I have been bleeding for a week now, I must admit it's getting lighter but still have it. I was positive for covid last week but that too also now is going fainter when I do my LFT's. I had no symptoms other than a blocked nose for a day or two.

Thanks x

KissKissButtCheek · 30/01/2022 22:11

I had Covid December 2020 - had 3 periods since. 2 were in April 2021 and one beginning of January 2022 - last period was very very heavy and I felt like I was feeling every single drop coming out, so painful!

I'm waiting to see if I have another one in February.
I am 49 so do wonder if perimenopausal/menopause has a part to play x
