What are the chances of lockdown this Christmas?

I've been away this weekend (UK, but I've been distracted and not following the news).

I see there's been talk of Johnson announcing a "ban on Christmas" possibly, around the 17th - or not, depending on what happens with Omicron - is that about right?

I know we can't know yet what's going to happen, but what are people's feelings?

What do you think the restrictions, if any, are likely to be in England & Wales & in Scotland?

@Waxonwaxoff0 absolutely agree with you going forward and will vote accordingly. But that's not going to happen in the next 2 weeks.

@NeverForgetYourDreams

I will take zero notice of any mandates not to see family.
Same here. If my family want to come to us on Christmas Day they will be welcome.

I doubt many will either. The you can't visit friends but you can meet for coffee but not a beer really won't wash ever again people will see though it.
@Waxonwaxoff0 so you're cool with people dying at home for lack of hospital beds? Or do you think no member of nhs staff should take leave over Christmas? Or what?
Bit of a binary "You're either with us or against us" viewpoint isn't it?

It's not, but we don't even know how Omicron will play out yet. At the moment hospitalisations are steady.

My concern is the sheer amount of the population who could catch the Omicron variant. Even though early indications are reporting that it’s incredibly mild, it won’t be for everyone and that’s if this is fact, is it just too early to tell yet?

Apart from mask wearing I haven’t seen many changes and even though more people are wearing masks, the amount wearing them under their nose, under their chin, the amount discarded on car parks, in the street is disgraceful! Really, what is wrong with people!

I really do despair of the human race at times.

“ I really do despair of the human race at times.”

I despair of this sort of comment at times. People have coped with a huge amount of change, disruption, devastation and tragedy over the last 20 ish months. Most people have complied (more than govts expected). But instead of recognising this there is a proportion of people who just can’t see how much many people have done and continue to do.

MissPeregrine · 12/12/2021 11:03

@RichTeaRichTea my comment was concerning the littering of face masks and the way many are being worn! I do despair, which is nothing whatsoever to do with how much people have had to cope with, nothing at all, so your reply to my post makes no sense!
