Would you go to a gig this Friday?

Me and DH have tickets to see a very popular and loud band tomorrow night.

The audience will be young people jumping around singing (they have anthemy songs that people will definitely shout), it’ll be boozy and it’s a sold out venue.

I don’t want to go but my DH says that Im being silly and he’s definitely going, he’ll just go with a friend if I want to stay in.
Normally I don’t mind him going to gigs without me but I can’t help but feel that his decision to go doesn’t just affect him.

I run a business so if he catches covid and I have to isolate it’ll be awful.
Also I just don’t want covid.

We’re both double jabbed.

I know if I put my foot down he wouldn’t go but it feels a bit controlling. He’s an adult.

AIBU?

Yep I'd love to !!

Scbchl · 02/12/2021 14:13

Yabu, we were at a gig last Friday and it was great. We have to start living our lives!

HighHighHopes · 02/12/2021 14:15

Absolutely I'd go.

HailAdrian · 02/12/2021 14:18

Can your DP sleep in the spare room for a few days afterwards so if the risk he's taking bites him on the bum it doesn't disrupt your livelihood?

I missed the bit where OP said they even had a spare room...

PrivateHall · 02/12/2021 14:18

@ILookAtTheFloor

I went to a gig on 30th Oct. Pressed in like sardines, singing at the top of my lungs- it was sweaty, it was AMAZING and I'd do again tomorrow if I could.

Didn't catch anything there.

It was Biffy Clyro.

I am so so so jealous!
Wilma55 · 02/12/2021 14:21

You won't have to isolate unless he gets new variant.

Pepperama · 02/12/2021 14:24

No. Don’t know if I’d be one of the unlucky ones who ends up ill for months or end up passing it on to someone who vulnerable who dies from it. NHS is struggling massively and needs people to take basic precautions. So I’m staying clear of very high risk environments like that till rates are way down (

VoyageInTheDark · 02/12/2021 14:24

You should definitely go and see the libertines! I'd love to have gone to see them this tour but I have a baby.

FlamingGoat · 02/12/2021 14:33

Yes and I did on Monday night in Glasgow. If its EODM then they were awesome!!!
I forgot just how much I'd missed live events.
There has to come a point where you start to get back to some sort of normal life. I almost cancelled but I'm so glad I didn't.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/12/2021 14:38

I'd go. Went to one last weekend.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 02/12/2021 14:42

I went to one last week and going to one next week. Also went to a 3 day music event 3 weeks ago. I've had all the vaccinations including the booster so if it's legal to do then I'm doing it.

SkankingMopoke · 02/12/2021 14:58

It wouldn't cross my mind not to go either. Surely having gone to 6 gigs already plus I'm guessing a fair amount of 'normal life' (meeting friends, taking DCs to swimming lessons, work etc), combined with the vaccine then you must already have been exposed at some point and have as good a level of protection as you're ever going to get.

Bobholll · 02/12/2021 15:00

Can I have your ticket?

Get out & live life before we are all bloody doomed to a life of lockdown & misery for the foreseeable. I’m doing as much as I possibly can this December. Im vaccinated, young, healthy & I’ve not been worried about covid since June 2020. I’ve had it twice & I’m still here to tell the tale, no harm done bar no sense of smell!

Reports are this new variant is mild. I don’t know why people are loosing their minds about it. If you are young & healthy, it’s no more risk than it’s ever been!

MoonbeamSprinkles · 02/12/2021 15:27

i don't quite understand your change of heart. Why have you changed your view on things?

Just because we don’t know enough about this variant to make an informed decision.

With delta I knew that the vaccines held up pretty well and that even if I infected my granny she’d probably be fine as she’s had 3 vaccines.

We don’t have enough data to know what this variant does in a more vulnerable population.

I also feel like it’s probably a lot more seeded into the population than we suspect.

But people are totally right that it’s probably as safe as it’s going to get for a few months.

I’m really hoping that it’ll be mild and I’ll look back on this and think ‘I can’t believe I worried about that’

Honestly you'll get covid at some point anyway ! There's no avoiding it now.

Nutella22 · 02/12/2021 15:41

I personally wouldn't go but have no issue with others who want to get out and start living their lives again - I'm a bit envious of them as I just can't bring myself do it at the moment while rates are so high! It sounds ridiculous but my main worry is getting long covid/long term health problems plus infecting my elderly parents. I'd probably feel better once I've had a booster and when we find out how the vaccine fares against the new variant.

Yellow85 · 02/12/2021 15:59

Yip I would. Although I’ve recently recovered from covid, which I caught despite wfh l, mask wearing and not really going anywhere other than the shops. So really I’ve decided that if it can catch me with barely any movement anyway, then I may as well be living my best life.

So we’ll be cracking on as normal until such times as we’re are told otherwise. Although I’ll still adhere to mask wearing and hand washing!

ifonly4 · 02/12/2021 16:13

I wouldn't go - I know I wouldn't be able to relax.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 02/12/2021 16:15

Yep! I'm going to a gig on Saturday night that was rearranged from last year and they added an extra night so we're going Sunday night as well. Camden Roundhouse and I can't wait!

JorisBonson · 02/12/2021 16:29

I'm going to Wembley tomorrow night to see the Manics.

As PP's have said, want to get my live music fix in case it's all shut down again. Have been to several gigs and nightclubs this year and it's all been fine.

I feel the same. Stephane Bancroft of Moderna said

"There is no world, I think, where [the effectiveness] is the same level . . . we had with [the] Delta [variant],”

So until we know more we have to assume we're not as protected as we were.

And I think I just heard someone on the news say previous infection isn't protective either.

flumposie · 02/12/2021 16:53

Yes. Went to one during half term and have another a week on Saturday. After a year of being told schools are safe etc and mixing with hundreds of pupils a day why wouldn't I ?

KylieKoKo · 02/12/2021 16:54

I was meant to go to one on Friday but I've now got covid so I can't and I'm gutted! Take the opportunity to go when you can!

MoonbeamSprinkles · 02/12/2021 16:57

I'm going to Wembley tomorrow night to see the Manics.

We saw them at the beginning of this tour, they were really great, very good set list.
Enjoy!!
