Would you go to a gig this Friday?

Me and DH have tickets to see a very popular and loud band tomorrow night.

The audience will be young people jumping around singing (they have anthemy songs that people will definitely shout), it’ll be boozy and it’s a sold out venue.

I don’t want to go but my DH says that Im being silly and he’s definitely going, he’ll just go with a friend if I want to stay in.
Normally I don’t mind him going to gigs without me but I can’t help but feel that his decision to go doesn’t just affect him.

I run a business so if he catches covid and I have to isolate it’ll be awful.
Also I just don’t want covid.

We’re both double jabbed.

I know if I put my foot down he wouldn’t go but it feels a bit controlling. He’s an adult.

AIBU?

@SlipperyLizard

We’re off to see the Charlatans on Saturday. When I booked the tickets I thought there was only a small chance it would go ahead, now I think it is just in time before everything gets cancelled!

I have two DCs at two different schools, so I’m as likely to get it from them. I had covid this time last year, and am double vaxxed, so I’m happy to take the risk.

Enjoy i saw them recently in Manchester they were great!

I'd go

Northsoutheastwest76 · 02/12/2021 17:02

Yes

Buzzinwithbez · 02/12/2021 18:45

Are you in England? Do you know that cases are stable and hospitalisations are down a quarter on 4 weeks ago. The new strain hasn't had an time to spread so now it's probably as good a time as any to go to a busy gig. Especially if you were quite comfortable going to them a few weeks ago.

julieca · 02/12/2021 18:47

Cases are way up today.

ElectraBlue · 02/12/2021 18:55

Are you going to stay locked in your home for the rest of your life?

Your partner has decided to go. If you don't want to join in, at least respect his choice.

Strugglingtodomybest · 02/12/2021 18:56

Yes I would.

Why is the only option to stay locked up for the rest of your life, or go to a gig? I wasn't even locked up in my house during lockdowns. There are other options you know between these two extremes.
seriousandloyal · 02/12/2021 18:57

Yes

Ugzbugz · 02/12/2021 19:03

Yes 100 percent would, have 2 big football matches this week with thousands of people and will be going.

There will be variant after variant, this is never going to go away.

zen1 · 02/12/2021 19:06

Yes, it’s time to get on with life.

insancerre · 02/12/2021 19:10

I would go
I went to my first gig in 18 months a couple of weeks ago- the Jesus and Mary chain in Manchester and it was so good to do something normal again
I’m not scared about catching Covid- I’ve worked throughout the pandemic in a nursery and haven’t caught it yet- now I’m triple jabbed and I’m willing to take my chances- the odds are stacked more in my favour now than they were at the start when I was working with no protection.
Life has to go on

Realitea · 02/12/2021 19:12

If it helps, my Dh went to two gigs two weeks ago and hasn’t caught covid from them.

SellFridges · 02/12/2021 19:18

I went to two gigs last weekend (James on Friday, Charlatans on Saturday) and didn’t get Covid from either (so far at least, but unlikely to test positive now). Going to Shed 7 next week. A few wore masks, 99% didn’t but I expect that to change a bit next week.

They said they’d be checking vaccine passports/tests for both but didn’t at the first. They checked everyone at the second venue.

Go. It’s absolutely life affirming.

zombiedog21 · 02/12/2021 19:28

I would absolutely go. I've got a (small, packed, sweaty!) gig lined up for Dec 16th and I'll be there.

BlondieD · 02/12/2021 19:35

I want to go to a gig Saturday night. There's still tickets available. As much as I love the singer, I'm not willing to risk it this side of Christmas. No way. If the concert was after Christmas in January, I would nearly consider it but I don't want to risk the virus so close to Christmas. This is coming from someone with 3 vaccines. I don't want to get ill. I'm looking forward to Christmas Dinner and nice food and I don't want to lose my taste and smell. Also last Christmas I brokw out the Champagne in the morning and drank bucks fizz with Breakfast because myself and my family made it to Christmas covid free. I want to do the same again this year. Christmas eve and Christmas day will be a celebration of making it to Christmas healthy and covid free.

MoonbeamSprinkles · 02/12/2021 19:37

Great, the consensus seems to go.

As I say I have been to gigs since we reopened and really enjoyed them. Didn’t even blink.

I am just a bit nervous about the new variant and wondered if I should wait until we have more info.

Also the libertines on a Friday night in Newcastle will be pretty messy so there’ll be zero restrictions going on.

I have a few more booked in for this month too so I thought if I cancelled I could just go to them when we know a bit more. But I think everyone’s right and now is probably the safest time and it’ll either all be fine so I’ve cancelled for nothing, or it’ll be the last chance to see a gig for a while.

I defo would (if I wasn't 8 months pregnant haha) but if you are just going to worry then there is no point xx

highlandcoo · 02/12/2021 20:46

I should have been going to see James tomorrow night with DH but we've decided - very reluctantly - to give it a miss.

I'm triple jabbed and until this new variant appeared was feeling OK about it. Now I feel more concerned.

I've passed the tickets on to our son to find some mates on facebook who might want them.

Sounds like I'm a lot older than you though OP, and I'm just not going to risk it.

Rizzoli123 · 02/12/2021 21:22

Husband is late 30s went to see offspring. He went with gloved up with a mask on. Washed hands when he came home

InFiveMins · 02/12/2021 21:41

Yes I would go! Life really is for living - go and enjoy yourselves!

Kamelion · 02/12/2021 22:14

Yes, I’d go.

I’ve double-jabbed and had covid about a month ago, thankfully with very mild, almost non-existent symptoms.

I’m as protected as I can be and I’m not particularly concerned about getting it, save for the inconvenience of having to isolate.

OhMyCrump · 02/12/2021 22:33

Just adding my voice to the 'I'd definitely go' camp.

BBOA · 02/12/2021 22:35

Nope! Husband double jabbed and caught Covid at the beginning of Nov at a rugby match/ on train getting there.

Wizzbangfizz · 02/12/2021 22:38

Yes I'd go - whilst we are still "free" why wouldn't you
