Will the new close contact rules have opposite effect to intended?

Apologies if this has already been discussed somewhere.

I was just thinking if I got mild Covid symptoms now (other than the main 3) I would take a LFT and, if positive, I would now think twice about doing a comfirmatory PCR where I wouldn't have before. I would of course isolate off the back of the positive LFT, but if I went for the PCR there's a chance it called be Omicron which could then force my children and a whole bunch of my double/triple vaccinated family and friends into 10 days unnecessary isolation before Christmas.

If other people thought this same way actually, actually this strict new rule of the Government's could backfire in making people less likely to do PCR test and making it harder to track and analyse Omicron.

Am I missing something? What do you think? Is this a risk?

I don't think that anyone on here has said they wouldn't isolate

From OP there's a chance it called be Omicron which could then force my children and a whole bunch of my double/triple vaccinated family and friends into 10 days unnecessary isolation before Christmas

The OP doesn't mention herself there though? That post is about her contacts having to isolate, not her.

I didn't clap for the NHS either and thought it frankly quite bizarre that so many people did.

I'm not going to follow rules just because they're rules. Politicians certainly don't. If my (regular) LFT tells me I have Covid, I'll isolate so that I don't pass it on. I don't want to give it to anyone else. I'll tell my close contacts so that they can test too. I don't want them to give it to anyone else if they have it.

I'm autistic and the sound of a phone ringing makes my heart rate leap up crazily. Phone calls make me very anxious. In everyday life I usually let unknown callers leave messages, then call back - knowing who/what to expect and having control over timing makes it easier. A single, short T&T call might be manageable. Repeated, lengthy calls aren't, especially if I'm ill. If it's selfish to avoid putting myself in that situation, I don't really care about being selfish.

It isn't. It would be a disablist arsehole move to tell you it was.

Well @Watapalava I hope your child doesn't develop Long COVID at dome point because eith no PCR there will be no evidence to get referrals to the tight clinics
I einder if those eho don't do PCRS but rely on LFTs have considered this.

Watapalava · 06/12/2021 17:56

Long covid is not something i even give second thought to tbh. Its massively over rated imo. Both dc recovered with 2-3 days

Northsoutheastwest76 · 06/12/2021 21:39

No surprises there.
