@RedToothBrush- probably totally unrealistic demands, last minute, placed on local vaccination teams by local authorities/Central Government. Exact same thing happened in my DD’s school. Frustrating thing for the kids was that they missed hours of lessons in the queue.

We know the hubs work well so that is the formula they should follow mostly. Parents need to take days off for isolations anyway so will likely have to be for vaccinations too, if it is to be done quickly and efficiently. If it becomes a regular thing would be good if whole families could be vaccinated at same time.

Incognito22333 · 05/12/2021 17:29

Omicron being a recombinant is just a theory at this point? Recombinant of different COVID-19 variants? Or recombinant in another animal host? If the original strain is always there somewhat then vaccines based on original strain will always work somewhat?

Firefliess · 05/12/2021 17:46

In Scotland they opened up the general vaccination centres to 12-15 year olds and got through them a lot quicker than in England where they relied solely on the schools programme for many slow weeks. I'd have thought that for younger kids there'd be more parents also feeling that they'd rather take their child themselves as young kids can get anxious about needles - I can't think of any other vaccines that are done via schools for young children. So I hope they just open up the existing infrastructure to children once they've approved it for them.
@PrincessNutNuts like you'd ever even heard of a recombinant virus before you read that 🙄
I mention them in this thread from February:

I’ve scared myself reading this. It says we’re only at the start. http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4168458-I-ve-scared-myself-reading-this-It-says-we-re-only-at-the-start

And this one from 18 months ago under my original username:

Thanks for the local info, @isthismylifenow

@PrincessNutNuts I'm sure you mean well and believe you are well informed but a break from doom-mongering might do you good.

Mycatispretty · 05/12/2021 19:07

She isn’t doom mongering

manolantern · 05/12/2021 19:08

Well, this IS a scary line-up!

True optimism recognises the problem for what it is, and identifies the tools to solve it.

That's me.

Quartz2208 · 05/12/2021 19:40

So what would your current tools be then PrincessNutNuts

herecomesthsun · 05/12/2021 19:42

@manolantern

Well, this IS a scary line-up!
Only if you're scared of science
manolantern · 05/12/2021 19:48

Do you recognize all the faces in the line-up, herecomesthesun?

I had to Google to remind myself that top left is Hans Gruber. But the villainous Eric Ding was one I immediately knew.

He really IS a fearmonger, and his qualifications as a scientist are very slim. Google and you will see!

manolantern · 05/12/2021 19:49

Top right Hans Gruber, top left Ding!

There's a spoof account here which humorously illustrates just how awful he is:

Any of the effective covid strategies employed worldwide should be under consideration.

Cutting transmission should be a priority for the country with the third highest cases in the world in the last seven days.

Because more cases = more problems.

More disruption in education.

More of the workforce off with covid.

More Christmas parties cancelled

More jobs lost

More businesses going to the wall

More sick children

More children losing a parent

More long covid

More chaos

More hospitalisations

More death.

More variants

And more years like the last two.

MarshaBradyo · 05/12/2021 19:57

identifies the tools to solve it

How are you defining ‘solve it’?

Eliminate / eradicate or something else…

Quartz2208 · 05/12/2021 19:59

Yes so what would you do if you were in charge? What effective worldwide strategies that you consider to be working would you pick?

Ah I don't know what Eric Ding looks like, but I have encountered some of his tweets occasionally in passing.

I just noticed the Grinch too Grin

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 05/12/2021 20:03

Have just heard from friend I went out to lunch with yesterday they have a positive lateral flow. Hoping it won’t turn out to be omicron. What are my odds?

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 05/12/2021 20:03

I am double vax + boosted

PrincessNutNuts · 05/12/2021 20:06

Have you asked me this before?
Quartz2208 · 05/12/2021 20:11

Me personally? No I dont think so, I have seen on threads that you have been asked. I am genuinely interested though as you speak with such confidence about everything else I am sorry though if you dont want to answer the question.

I think I have said what measures I thought I would bring in (including the pre flight test they have) on this thread so I didnt think it would be controversial!

We can live our lives free of covid chaos and death.

Our children's education, exams and future prospects aren't disrupted by covid every academic year.

We can book things ahead of time without wondering if they'll be cancelled because of covid, or unsafe to attend.

Christmas is never cancelled.

We can go to Steps concerts without spreading a new pathogen

People can have the surgery they need in a timely manner because ICUs usually have enough beds free.

People can get an ambulance when they need one. Not 12 hours after they needed one.

That kind of thing.

weddingguesttbc · 05/12/2021 20:20

@PrincessNutNuts how? Except lockdowns forever? Lockdown cases go down, open up, they go up...

MarshaBradyo · 05/12/2021 20:20

Princess sounds great.

But do you mean the virus is eradicated? How?

Sunshinegirl82 · 05/12/2021 20:23

Are we back to zero covid worldwide?
