I'm watching Sky News, and they have said there will be a news conference this afternoon... but why do they never say at what time? I've also had this on BBC news too previously. It is so infuriating Angry

YANBU- It is annoying they do not specify a time.
YABU- In 2021 you should search the internet to find it yourself.

I do not know how to do AIBU polls. One day I will figure it out and add it on.

@Tanith - you are joking, aren't you? Maybe the female journalists had a day off, maybe it just happened that the men were available on a Saturday? There was a female photographer amongst them! This concerns everybody, not just women and children.

Written English is not a BSL users first language

But it's a compromise if they couldn't get someone at short notice.

It really isn’t a suitable compromise. You’re showing your ignorance here.

Why on earth are we less able to get interpreters than other countries? It’s because it’s not something our PM has chosen to care about.

herecomesthsun · 27/11/2021 17:48

@Againstmachine

Plus he gets endless deth threats now from the anti-mask/anti-vax weirdos

Plus he is liar him and Vallance did it last year and it was unforgivable.

They are heroes in my book. Along with our scientists.
toomuchlaundry · 27/11/2021 17:49

I assume some people may be regretting get rid of their masks in the summer

No interpreter and No subtitles... Really NOT on.
Poor Ds2 is anxious enough and was desperate to understand what Boris was saying... Both he and his deaf frends are feeling let down.. We should have an interpreter in the room like all the other governments do! 😡 😡 😡

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 27/11/2021 17:50

What would you have liked them to have asked?

Impact in schools and support for parents if they have to have isolating children while working.

Any implications or recommendations for pregnant women.

Thewiseoneincognito · 27/11/2021 17:51

Whilst I dislike BJ and his general approach to the pandemic as a whole, I hope this forced sentiment that he’d be some National villain who cancelled Christmas does not cloud his judgment- if restrictions came back you can guarantee he’ll have explored every feasible avenue to have avoided them and they would be absolutely necessary.

Chris Whitty did seem agitated, I’m glad others noticed this too.

Face masks for shops and transport is a positive step forward, hopefully to be expanded to other settings soon too.

My guess is I wouldn’t be surprised if close contact isolation regardless of vaccination came back across the board in the next week or so which will bring with it a big set of problems once again.

Stay safe everyone.

Re key measures... A plane with 600 people on had 61 Covid carrying passengers held in the Netherlands.
Whilst that plane was banned from docking what was happening to similar destination flights lhw?
How many flights carrying 600 let them through?

RoRoYoYo · 27/11/2021 17:51

@Wilma55

When does pcr start for arrivals to UK?
I'm wondering that as DH just arrived back here this morning. The PCR booking website hasn't been updated to allow you to select a returning to U.K. option.

They could have got someone at any notice ffs, they just cba and it is not good enough.

Why bother making excuses? They should always have BSL for announcements like this. There are people on a list they can call, if they cared.

Him and Vallance are liars it's a fact, I wouldn't call them heros they are doing their job.

Difference in opinion then,

I admire them hugely, especially since they have to put up with so much hostility and so many insults on the media, for, as you say, doing their job (and doing it well).

And no they are not liars.

bordermidgebite · 27/11/2021 17:52

Close contact to omicron is isolation even if you had a vaccination

With no announcement as to how this will be managed /financed

Naughtynovembertree · 27/11/2021 17:52

But why wait, incognito?
What are we waiting for?
We know covid adores the cold, it strengthens it, we are all cold and indoors more so why not implement immediately, masks and esp in school in class??

rrhuth · 27/11/2021 17:52

Yes, all those twats who talked of burning them Hmm
HesterShaw1 · 27/11/2021 17:53

I agree the fact that the journalists were all men asking questions of three men was very noticeable. It makes for a very narrow press conference - and many of them were the same. The last one was particularly stupid. I'm glad Johnson almost visibly rolled his eyes.

It's a cop-out. it's like telling a vegan that they can only have green beans for dinner because you've only got roast chicken on offer and you can't be arsed to go to the shops to get them anything else.
AutumnAlmanack · 27/11/2021 17:54

I have never given up wearing masks and gloves - EVERY SINGLE TIME I go into a shop.

I wonder what they'll count as close contact. Will it just be family members, or will a Omicron positive school children potentially mean a class having to isolate?
Againstmachine · 27/11/2021 17:55

Fair enough masks gloves are entirely pointless

More like telling them they can have bmnitrt hgtredssne for dinner.

NeverSurrender · 27/11/2021 17:55

BJ said for close contacts of the new strain to isolate, but how would we know which strain we had? Presumably there would be a delay where people were mixing before they found out?

That's utterly incorrect. Covid doesn't "adore the cold" FFS. 🙄

You might remember a small problem India had last April when temperatures go above 40°C.

Viruses spread in winter because people are inside more

Lockheart · 27/11/2021 17:56

I've never worn gloves, but yes I'm the same with masks. I've kept mine for the shops, public transport and have never changed that.
HesterShaw1 · 27/11/2021 17:57

Gloves? Just why?
