Do not give yourself - heart attack - stroke - panic attack - doom gloom feelings - anxiety pain - high blood pressure Etc etc. All the above much more possible worrying about new strain, than dying from it. The worry from 'what if' is actually deadly here. If you are panicking, try to switch off. Listen to some music that reminds you of happy times and laughter. Phone a friend whos a good listener. We are all in this together ok. You are not alone. Sending hugs all round.

I’m working on the red list hotel quarantine scheme , there’s a lot of very real concern

This is concerning. Of the two plane loads of passengers from SA that were detained in Amsterdam today 15 have tested positive (not yet clear which variant) from 95 tested so far. Most of 500 tests outstanding.

That's a lovely post Sally And you're very right too. Stress is bad for the immune system.

It's important that those with the authority and responsibility (moral and legal) to protect lives, health, and economy, take reasonable proactive actions.

It's also on all of us public to be sensible - and think of others, particularly the vulnerable (humans)- by doing things that take very little effort but are potentially invaluable as mitigation measures. Like masks.

But yeah there's a difference between panic and sensible precautions.

I'm logging off to make an immune boosting hot chocolate. Dark is best, but then health is holistic - and tasty treats however 'naughty' bring happiness 🍫 Brew

Going forward we need to vaccinate the world, not just our little developed fortress.

Temporary patent waiver.

Xmas wasn’t even cancelled for the majority of people last year. Just restricted to 3 households. So I think it’s very unlikely that Xmas will be cancelled this year.

Theplantisgrowing · 27/11/2021 00:27

Cariah

A hell of a lot of the country couldn't have anything like three households last Christmas - short memories .

Cariah. We had everything cancelled for us. One household xmas. I know lots of people who were alone as they feared the risk of mixing in a bubble too.
Dishhh · 27/11/2021 00:35

@Pootle40

Haven't given it a second thought.

Obviously, you have, as you've clicked on a thread about it, read all the way through and taken the time to type out a pointless post in reply. Why even bother? At least add something useful to the discussion.

Aaaand has posted several times on a different thread about it Grin

Do you know what this really fucks me off. So many people including me and my family were put in tier 4 on the 19th December and we couldn’t mix with any other family outside our household- it was stay at home orders!! Really really stings when people have the memory like yours. It was so so unbelievably disappointing and shit last year.
PrincessNutNuts · 27/11/2021 15:36

43% of England's population were put in Tier 4. Which is about 24 million people.

And of course it affected millions of family members who may not be in Tier 4 themselves, but couldn't go to their Tier 4 relations for Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year, or have people living in Tier 4 come to them.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/11/2021 15:36

Well Christmas was cancelled here. We were in tier 4.

How quickly people forget. It hasn’t been 6 months yet since we were allowed in peoples homes.

Not in Essex. We weren’t allowed any mixing at all.

Wrong. We exchanged presents with the in-laws in a car park the week before, as we couldn’t mix households or travel outside of our local area even on 25th.
So this new variant…
Tealightsandd · 28/11/2021 00:12

Well Xmas was certainly cancelled (permanently) for huge numbers of dead COVID victims. And for their loved ones.

Malteser71 · 28/11/2021 00:26

Christ’s sake

Get over yourself

Tealightsandd · 28/11/2021 00:32

I take it you're not a bereavement counsellor....

Nor very understanding of the true meaning of Christmas.

Malteser71 · 28/11/2021 00:36

Sorry I didn’t follow.

Death?

True meaning of Christmas?

This is a thread about a new variant which is being massively overblown, mainly for political reasons.

Anyone who thinks like this is basically inhumane, lacking in empathy or ‘the spirit of Christmas?’

Perhaps some of us just don’t react hysterically to what we read on social media.

Tealightsandd · 28/11/2021 01:22

Yes exactly empathy.

Jesus Christ cared about the poor and the sick (the very same groups who have been disproportionately hit by COVID deaths)

Acinaces · 28/11/2021 10:40

@ElectraBlue

Stop panicking and carry on with your life.

Covid is not going away. Stick to facts rather than tabloids scaremongering.

Absolutely!!
Acinaces · 28/11/2021 10:46

The true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with COVID. What on earth?

My Christmas was fine; the family came over as usual. None of us caught COVID. I will be doing the same this year too. No variant is stopping me from celebrating the TRUE meaning of Christmas.

Another narrative from the government to scare the masses before Christmas. Another narrative to enforce a policy, a demand they want us to follow. I shall not bend to their will - they will not take away my freedoms.
