Arrrgh! So they've had their original jabs after MUCH persuasion. But now they won't get the booster 🙈

How can I persuade them this is a bad idea?! Really quite worried about them.

This is a pokey post I think.

Djifunrsn · 22/11/2021 17:24

Get your own jabs and leave this person alone. We have freedom of choice.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 22/11/2021 17:24

None of your business really. I'm far from being an anti vaxxer, but it's wrong to talk someone into something they aren't comfortable with. I have an anti vaxxer screaming banshee SIL who bombards us with shite information about how dangerous vaccines are. I wish she shut her fucking trap. I'm not a hypocrite, so I won't be telling her how stupid she is or trying to strong arm her into a vaccine centre. She can stew in her own juice as far as I'm concerned.

bumbleymummy · 22/11/2021 17:25

You don’t need to ‘persuade’ them to do anything. It has nothing to do with you. Let people make their own decisions and leave them alone.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 22/11/2021 17:26

Hang on… so your friend who is an anti vaxxer has had both vaccinations? I’d call that a win, personally.

theworldsgonefeckingmad · 22/11/2021 17:33

@thewhatsit finally!! This is exactly how I feel with this constant "you are selfish" "antivax" "conspiracy theorist" if you dare say you don't want your children having it. All adults who want it...fine, vulnerable of any age if in THEIR best interests absolutely, but 100% should always be a choice

NothingIsWrong · 22/11/2021 17:48

Stop trying to coerce people into medical treatment. FWIW I've had both so far and booster is booked for mid December. Still think people should have a choice.

samyeagar · 22/11/2021 18:01

*This!

I have had both mine yet still called a anti vaxxer on here. The word has lost all meaning now.*

pokey post sounds about right Grin
MammaLovesLeopard · 22/11/2021 18:58

@XenoBitch

How are they an anti-vaxxer when they have had the first two jabs?

It is their decision, and not your place to persuade them of anything.

They felt rail roaded into into having them.

@SickAndTiredAgain

How can I persuade them this is a bad idea?!

I wouldn’t be trying to persuade them. And I’d be annoyed with a friend hassling me to get it (I have had my two jabs and am not eligible for a booster so I am not in this situation, but if I was, a pestering friend would be annoying).

I'm not pestering them. I'm talking to them about their reasoning. It makes little sense to me.
OP posts:
MammaLovesLeopard · 22/11/2021 19:01

@ollyollyoxenfree Also very fatigued, but would question that if first two were fine why they were hesitating over a third (i.e., is this based on some of the crazier anti-vaccine misinformation out there like everyone who has a booster will drop dead)

They have a tendency toward knee jerkingly disagreeing with anything governments say. They think the protests are being ignored (i've pointed out this is not the case)
They believe the other "scientists" who they believe are being silenced.

OP posts:
MammaLovesLeopard · 22/11/2021 19:01

@GodIsAVegan

It’s not your place to persuade them. And if there was much persuasion for the first ones, they can be in no doubt of your your thoughts. Leave them to it.
I didn't persuade them re: the first ones.
OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2021 19:02

They’ve made their decision. You’ve said your piece. Leave it.

They’ve already been vaccinated.

MammaLovesLeopard · 22/11/2021 19:03

@Cornettoninja

but would question that if first two were fine why they were hesitating over a third

Some people who’ve had their original two jabs seem very defensive at the idea of any further injections just because it’s further injections. I don’t really understand it but they feel how they is how they feel I suppose. I don’t really have much of an argument against ‘I don’t want an injection’ because I presume that they’re aware of the reasons for it and have simply decided their reason is good enough for them.

@Cornettoninja yes their thoughts are along the lines of ... "well I've had my jabs and if I need more then clearly the jabs don't work" it's not really very rational IMO.
OP posts:
XenoBitch · 22/11/2021 19:06

It doesn't matter what their reasoning it is. It is not your place to persuade them, or decide their reason is not good enough.
Can you not just leave the topic alone before they decide to cut you from their life?

GiveMeNovocain · 22/11/2021 19:11

Do you think they work better if you have them with enthusiasm?

GodIsAVegan · 22/11/2021 19:12

I didn't persuade them re: the first ones.

So they have multiple people in their lives who think they can tell them what they should do, you about the booster and others for the other two times previously. Who the hell do you all think you are?Just leave them alone, I’m surprised they haven’t told you all to piss off.

Unless there's a urgent clinical need for them to have it, I'd leave well be (and even then leave it up to their HCP to liase)

The government isn't exactly confidence inspiring and the more they feel forced the more they won't want to have it

The option to have a booster won't go away

SLH2003 · 22/11/2021 19:24

I have an antivaxer friend, we did our best to persuade him getting the vaccine made sense but he chose not to and is currently into week 3 in the ICU.

DaisyNGO · 22/11/2021 19:31

Leave them alone
I had 3 due to health issues

It's their right to choose but I am a bit stunned at healthy folk being asked to have a third.

DaisyNGO · 22/11/2021 19:31

Also she is not anti vax, surely?

So sorry @SLH2003 I have a couple of AV friends. It's really worrying. They all have elderly parents too.

Am truly not haranguing them. And no one is forcing them to do it. I just feel concerned.

I have other friends who haven't had any of the vaccines. And I take on board what people have said about someone having some of the vaccines not being "anti" as such.

It feels to me like some people have really backed themselves into positions that they won't climb down from. These are not uneducated people. They are in fact highly educated. It just makes no sense to me. We talk about our differing views as good friends. They haven't shared anything with me which makes me understand where they are coming from.

For those asking why it's my business... well, they are my very old friends. I love them & I just want them to be safe 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had both vaccines and still caught Covid.

Not a great advert for the vaccine tbh.

It wasn’t a mild dose either. I felt very unwell.

Oh, of course, without the vaccine I’d have been on a ventilator…. Hmm
