Arrrgh! So they've had their original jabs after MUCH persuasion. But now they won't get the booster 🙈

How can I persuade them this is a bad idea?! Really quite worried about them.

OP posts:
Cornettoninja · 22/11/2021 15:57

Tbh I would be hesitant to fuel any further debate with them.

They’ve had their first two jabs? They will still have some immunity and have had plenty of time to mull over the facts and risks/benefits.

I’m pretty fatigued with it all now tbh, if someone has made their decision with all the various viewpoints available I’m unsure there is much you would be able to add that could be persuasive. I appreciate that’s not an easy position to reconcile when it’s someone you care about though.

Battenburg77 · 22/11/2021 16:00

What age are they?

XenoBitch · 22/11/2021 16:01

How are they an anti-vaxxer when they have had the first two jabs?

It is their decision, and not your place to persuade them of anything.

SickAndTiredAgain · 22/11/2021 16:04

I wouldn’t be trying to persuade them. And I’d be annoyed with a friend hassling me to get it (I have had my two jabs and am not eligible for a booster so I am not in this situation, but if I was, a pestering friend would be annoying).

I would leave them be, unless they're really risking their health by not having the booster, and in that case would tell them to chat to their HCP

Also very fatigued, but would question that if first two were fine why they were hesitating over a third (i.e., is this based on some of the crazier anti-vaccine misinformation out there like everyone who has a booster will drop dead)

GodIsAVegan · 22/11/2021 16:08

It’s not your place to persuade them. And if there was much persuasion for the first ones, they can be in no doubt of your your thoughts. Leave them to it.

Cornettoninja · 22/11/2021 16:12

Some people who’ve had their original two jabs seem very defensive at the idea of any further injections just because it’s further injections. I don’t really understand it but they feel how they is how they feel I suppose. I don’t really have much of an argument against ‘I don’t want an injection’ because I presume that they’re aware of the reasons for it and have simply decided their reason is good enough for them.

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/11/2021 16:13

Hmm they had their 1st 2 jabs, hardly anti vax.

samyeagar · 22/11/2021 16:14

So now the term anti-vaxxer included double jabbed people who don't want the booster?

I remember a time when words had useful meaning...

thewhatsit · 22/11/2021 16:15

Well it doesn’t really sound like they are anti vaccine does it?

Anyway, if they had them late then they probably aren’t even due their booster yet?

Mojoj · 22/11/2021 16:16

Maybe you just mind your own business...?

thewhatsit · 22/11/2021 16:24

I don’t even understand calling people who don’t want the vaccine themselves but have no objection to other people having it anti vax.

Most people I know have had it (I think) but SIL hasn’t. She is VERY glad that her elderly relatives and her parents (my ILs) have had it, has no issue with the vaccine rollout and she says she might have it herself at some point.. maybe.. Honestly, she’s low risk and it’s not a debate I think is worth having with her. I would never call her anti vax because she’s not, she just doesn’t want it yet personally.

Anti vax to me would mean someone who has an objection to the vaccine completely (likely a conspiracy theorist) who tries to dissuade others from taking the vaccine eg through sharing anti vax propaganda or fake news. Anti vax would not include people who are for instance not convinced of the need for children to be vaccinated but beyond thankful and grateful that older, high risk people have been vaccinated or people who have decided not to be vaccinated themselves but are not trying to change anyone else’s minds.

Remmy123 · 22/11/2021 16:41

What's it got to do with you if they get booster or not? Do you feel this strongly wheh they don't get flu jab?

Weird

Yingandyang · 22/11/2021 16:43

Don't call yourself a friend, you aren't.

amylou8 · 22/11/2021 16:43

You mind your own business.

SandAndSea · 22/11/2021 16:51

What happened to 'My body, my choice'?

You need to step back.

ktel1 · 22/11/2021 17:04

This has to be a troll post right? Smile

The use of words anti vaxxer and friend in this context just don't jibe.

Russianmax · 22/11/2021 17:07

It’s none of your business trying to persuade them OP.

Cornettoninja · 22/11/2021 17:09

Is having strong concerns for a friends health so strange?

Tbh I’m surprised there haven’t been more threads expressing concern for loved ones having the vaccinations from those who have reservations.

Sugarandtime · 22/11/2021 17:10

@SandAndSea

Unfortunately that seemed to go out if the window once the governments and MSM divide and conquer got to work.

This!

I have had both mine yet still called a anti vaxxer on here. The word has lost all meaning now.

Calee03 · 22/11/2021 17:14

Their choice. Maybe not the right choice to you, but their choice. I had my first dose in Late feb and second dose was in May. I have booked booster for December but I'm a bit anxious about it. I didn't have any side effects with first but awful after second (Astra Zeneca). Worried how i will react to booster. I know a day or two or feeling rough seems worth it, but I was wiped out with my second! Not ideal with two children with sen.

We have it all in my family. Double jabbed and eligible for booster but not having it, those who had both and booster, those waiting for booster, those who aren't vaccinated at all, one with just one dose!

Ttoomany · 22/11/2021 17:14

"After much persuasion"...Is this attention seeking, do you think?

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2021 17:16

Anti vaxxer gets vaccinated. That’s good.
Just leave it now.

GiveMeNovocain · 22/11/2021 17:16

I enthusiastically had both covid vaccines. I had az despite the scary stories about clots at the time. Now 6 months later I'm meant to have Pfizer and it's unclear if that's it. I'm not keen either and planning on holding out until there's more data. Hadn't realised I'm anti vax. Anyone trying to persuade me can feck off. I don't tell others what medical procedures to have
