Where did you catch it?

I have a CEV son and so far as a family we have avoided catching it, the kids are still home schooling and DS still limits his activities (quite contentedly). The only people I know who actually caught it worked in medical settings. If you dont mind my asking and you actually know, where did you catch it? Have there been any official statistics released?

@firef1y

Sorry but all of you saying you definitely caught it from this place or that, you just can't be certain where you caught it, in just the same way that you can't be certain who you caught a cold off.

You can have a very high suspicion that's where you caught it, but unless you spent every other moment of the preceeding 10days sealed in a bubble with absolutely zero contact with anyone else you can't be certain.

Maybe true if you don't know anyone else who's had it.

I can say with absolute certainty dd brought it home from school - she was the 5th in her form to test positive and at one point about 50% of the year group was isolating after positive tests in the first 4-6 weeks of term. She was the first in our house and we all isolated after she tested positive, then each tested positive 2 days apart. There is zero doubt that it came from school in our house.

I think given that there are 15 people out of the 35/40 I was at a function with last Saturday who have all tested +ve within 48hrs of each other it's a fairly safe assumption that we all know where we caught it........ Confused
Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/11/2021 14:09

From a work colleague. Pretty confident that I caught it from her - she was in contact with a positive case, tested positive herself a few days later then I tested positive.

Shrubbyelk · 14/11/2021 14:31

At work- primary school despite being double vaxxed.

Of course some people can know for sure.

We mostly don’t go to shops and wfh so it was obvious in our case (via child from schoolmate). It was in a period where we weren’t allowed to have people in the house and we hadn’t been on public transport.

Labour ward I was in for fluids😓

My Ddad isolated due to ill health from March to December last year except for 2 hospital stays. Shopping was delivered and we didn't visit much atall once we were actually allowed to. 2 says before christmas he goes to the local chemist and sits next to a man that refused to wear a mask (quite vocal that he didn't need one). He then got removed as he started coughing. Ddad tested positive 1 week later and spent 6 weeks in hospital on a covid ward :( . My mum and older brother both caught it too 1 week later. Amazingly we avoided it even though we were over Christmas day.
Everyone else I know that's had it either caught it in health are settings, trains or the euro final as the local pub was packed.

I feel rage on your father's behalf.

@crazycatgal

From my DP who works in an office that currently have 12 people off with covid and don't give a shit.
When businesses have lots of people off with long covid and the bottom line is hit, hopefully they will begin to give a shit.Angry

A somewhat related question, are any of you resentful that you caught it the way you did?

For instance I would be quite annoyed if I realised a close friend had been sick but still chose to meet up or attend a party. It might be harder with kids since it's not their fault but there's the question of whether other parents have let their sick kids attend class or if more safekeeping methods should have been in place.

No. I'm of the view that we are all going to get it, you can't run from a virus. I'd have caught it elsewhere eventually.
MsAwesomeDragon · 15/11/2021 20:38

I'm a bit resentful that we were sent into classrooms without any mitigations. By the end of the first week there were cases in every class I teach, with some classes having up to 10 cases. They were all following the rules, testing with LFTs twice a week, so when they tested positive on the Thursday morning they'd been in my room on the Wednesday. The majority of those cases didn't develop symptoms until a couple of days after their positive test.

So no, I'm not resentful of the kids I caught it from. I AM resentful of the government removing isolation of even household contacts, and there being no masks required in schools.

TheNoonBell · 15/11/2021 20:59

Caught it at the hairdressers just before last Christmas. Manifested itself properly on Christmas day which with no sense of taste was bizarre. Even the smoked salmon and fizz couldn't break through it.

Worst part was day4 when work called up with a real emergency and forced me to work again (remotely) even though I couldn't think straight. Was like working stoned and drunk which wasn't great considering what we were fixing (remotely).

No long term issues and got a pay rise in thanks :)

DavidDevantsSpiritWife · 16/11/2021 07:31

The only place I'd been for ages was the supermarket, for about ten minutes, at a quiet time (must've been about ten other customers, I had while aisles to myself and didn't have to queue to pay). DH wfh and hadn't been anywhere apart from putting the bins out for even longer than me. We don't have visitors, we don't have friends or family, so hadn't had contact with anyone. So it must've been the supermarket.

Both double jabbed and both asymptomatic, despite me being CV, so that was a relief!

I was absolutely sure! Unless someone broke into my house and licked my face while I slept, anyway.
DelphiniumBlue · 16/11/2021 07:36

In school where I work, before the first lockdown.

Given that in Match 2020 they're weren't many people who had Covid yet my work occupational health contacted me to tell me that I had been sitting within a couple of metres of someone who had been diagnosed I think it's highly likely that is where I caught it.
mangomama91 · 16/11/2021 09:06

I work in a school but I think me and DD2 got it from DD1 who caught it from school as her class have quite a few positive cases at the moment.

Iggly · 16/11/2021 09:08

@Caramellatteplease

The more I read the more shocked I am we have done nothing to mitigate the spread of covid in school
I agree.

All that talk of oxygen monitors etc and they’ve actually done nothing.

I’ve written to my MP again because I’m
So angry about it.

middleager · 16/11/2021 09:12

I caught it off DS who caught it from secondary school.

Like pp, I'm resentful about how schools have just been left to be hotbeds of infection.

wendz86 · 16/11/2021 09:19

My eldest I’m pretty sure got it from school trip as quite a few in her year tested positive . She gave it to little sister and now I have it as was isolating with them both as a single parent .

newnameagain99 · 16/11/2021 09:52

Last year I caught it from a colleague at work. Last week I caught it from my 17 year old dd.
