Where did you catch it?

I have a CEV son and so far as a family we have avoided catching it, the kids are still home schooling and DS still limits his activities (quite contentedly). The only people I know who actually caught it worked in medical settings. If you dont mind my asking and you actually know, where did you catch it? Have there been any official statistics released?

I have absolutely no idea and it is bothering me. No one I know had it before me. I work in retail so I am wondering if it was a customer but I won't ever find out.

Caramellatteplease · 13/11/2021 19:26

no community transmission in the classrooms
What?!? Just what? You wonder what planet some people are on

From my sister who works in a school.

userperuser · 13/11/2021 19:27

My son caught it at work selling a telly to an elderly couple who coughed all over him while he was arranging the finance agreement. He has a lung problem caused by childhood pneumonia (means he struggles to breath if he gets any virus) even though he’s only 22. It was pre vaccines for his age group.

Leftbutcameback · 13/11/2021 19:28

I caught it about 2 weeks ago. Trying to work out where but I think football (and I go by bus) is most likely.

Leftbutcameback · 13/11/2021 19:29

I'm CEV and had recently had my booster. I have lung conditions and so far my lungs are fine which is such a relief

FancySomeChips · 13/11/2021 19:31

From the kids I work with.

Caramellatteplease · 13/11/2021 19:33

userperuser I hoping he is ok now. must have been very scary at the time

The swimming teacher had it. Many families who attended the swimming lesson
I think this probably sums up why we wont be back swimming at Bannatynes anywhen soon however tempting the super cheap offers are. It's a shame cos swimming is so good for DS and I miss it loads

I don't know but probably the bus or if not, the office.

FenceSplinters · 13/11/2021 19:34

School.

FenceSplinters · 13/11/2021 19:36

@QueenofLouisiana

Either in a supermarket (masked, social distancing) or from teaching in a classroom which was a bit of a tight fit and containing a child who tested positive the next day. My head refuses to believe it could be the latter and insists that there is no community transmission in the classrooms.
My headteacher says the same. Madness.
MsAwesomeDragon · 13/11/2021 19:36

I caught it at work in a secondary school.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/11/2021 19:36

My head teacher does not say the same. Thank goodness.

oneglassandpuzzled · 13/11/2021 19:37

My double-vaxxed husband caught it at a big lunch from someone else double-vaxxed. Husband was one day from his booster when infected. I caught it from him three or four days later. I’m also doubke-vaxxed.

853ax · 13/11/2021 19:40

Few people I know have had covid:
Gym, Hen Party, Pub after a match.
Another no clue working at home school age child did not get it must have been supermarket or coffee shop.

RedHot22 · 13/11/2021 19:40

From my daughter

She has a clinical role but also travels by train/tube

Sugarandtime · 13/11/2021 19:41

My elderly neighbour who never left her house or saw anyone for months (shopping was left in a bag by the door each week). Had a positive test result within 10 minutes of arriving in hospital after a fall.

Love to know how she apparently caught it

Anothermuddywalk · 13/11/2021 19:42

From my DH. No idea where he got it from - poss from DS as he tested positive while symptomless so we don't know if he had it first or got it from DH... poss from shops, or work, or swimming, or the gym, or trampolining or other half term activities. And if from DS, he could have got it from school or from an activity.

LaCerbiatta · 13/11/2021 19:42

I got it from dd who got it from a friend playing bowling.

userperuser · 13/11/2021 19:44

Caramellatteplease he’s fine now thanks was in bed about 3-4 days with high temp but very oddly did not get a cough and did not affect his breathing (confirmed PCR) but yes I was quite worried when he became unwell.

Caramellatteplease · 13/11/2021 19:50

positive test result within 10 minutes of arriving in hospital after a fall
That one is very puzzling. I wonder if she had had a medical appointment previously she had forgotten about/not mentioned.

Offices, buses, hospitals and schools... I'm wondering if DD might risk the cinema in a mask

My parents who are in their 70s and CV/CEV have managed NOT to catch it, despite living in an area in the top 20 highest case rates in the country. They have a cleaner with school aged children; Mum goes to church and to rock choir; they saw Dune at a very full cinema; lots of pub lunches and friends round for coffee. They also spent 10 days on holiday with other relations including children and NHS staff. And they haven't caught it! They wear masks but just the flimsy ones.

So, "Where did you not catch it?" might be a worthwhile question too.

DeadoftheMoon · 13/11/2021 20:06

On a tram. The bloke behind me was coughing his head off. It was early in Covid so I didn't have a mask with me, and by some trick of fate I didn't have a scarf that day, though I usually do.

userperuser · 13/11/2021 20:07

manolantern your parents sound like me although I’m younger, I’ve also been in very close contact for prolonged periods with confirmed positives on a number of occasions. I’ve lost count of the number of restaurants and cafes I’ve been in and also spent many hours in A&E departments with somebody on numerous occasions. I’ve been on holiday and mixed as I did pre covid. I also live in an city that has repeatedly had some of the highest cases in the country.

Slowdownandsee · 13/11/2021 20:18

Caught off school aged dd back in may this year among the first of the delta variant at the time, dd got it off child in her class that had family that had travelled….we don’t know if proper quarantine or whatever the rules were at the time were followed, possibly not and was cross at the time as it was just after one dose of vaccine and I was really ill as were two of the children but I think we would have got it eventually anyway and it would still be off the kids or busy shops etc now no one’s wearing masks much now
