Where did you catch it?

I have a CEV son and so far as a family we have avoided catching it, the kids are still home schooling and DS still limits his activities (quite contentedly). The only people I know who actually caught it worked in medical settings. If you dont mind my asking and you actually know, where did you catch it? Have there been any official statistics released?

In my parents case it's having seen the generation above them die horribly and slowly from other causes (Alzheimer's and cancer), and death and infirmity beginning to claim their own generation, they're determined to get back to normal and do everything they can today. Because if it isn't Covid it will be something else.

I thought this was a pertinent article today:

Personally though I find it easier to read and to agree with such articles than to put it into practice!

I caught it from DH who picked it up at a festival.

Tatum1234 · 13/11/2021 20:23

I got it from my school age children. I’m CEV but luckily had it very mildly.

SalamanderSally · 13/11/2021 20:24

I have it now and have zero idea who I got it from but I'm seriously ill with it - I have an oximeter as I'm so breathless. I'm double vaccinated too

CouldThisReallyBe · 13/11/2021 20:24

I'm on my final day of isolation today. I caught it two weeks ago tonight - without a doubt. I went on a tube to meet a friend at the cinema. He didn't travel by tube, he cycled there so I definitely didn't get it in the cinema as it was a small screen and he would have caught it too. It was the tube trip home. I was wearing a mask but 90% of people weren't and it was packed!

FirewomanSam · 13/11/2021 20:27

I have it at the moment and I can’t quite square where I got it. It’s driving me mad thinking

I was at the theatre around 2 weeks before my symptoms started and at a small family gathering around 2 days before. The first feels like too long ago and the second feels too recent but either is possible I suppose. One other person at the family gathering is now also positive but everyone else is negative. I feel awful that I could have given it to him but it also seems strange because of all the people there, we barely spoke and weren’t sat anywhere near each other for any period. So it could also just be unrelated I guess.

I also had lunch with a friend in a very open, well-ventilated restaurant about 5 days before. That seems like the most likely culprit but the only person I was near for any significant period is the friend, who has done a tonne of LFTs and PCRs recently and is consistently testing negative. But she has had ‘a cold’ and I do wonder whether it’s possible she has had it but just isn’t testing positive for some reason.

This makes me sound like I’m out and about constantly Blush I’m really not, though. It’s just been a weirdly and uncharacteristically busy few weeks for me and well, this is the result Sad I have really terrible anxiety and find it hard to leave the house anyway, then I finally work up the courage to do a few things and this is the result Sad Bloody typical.

Get well soon Flowers

@QueenofLouisiana

Either in a supermarket (masked, social distancing) or from teaching in a classroom which was a bit of a tight fit and containing a child who tested positive the next day. My head refuses to believe it could be the latter and insists that there is no community transmission in the classrooms.
Your head really should market that magic air you have that can’t transmit it in an enclosed indoor space 😂

My DP from a friend in a pub and then I catched it from him

I thought this was a pertinent article today

Its interesting... and short sighted and narrow minded.

Just cos we are doing well doesn't mean we couldn't be doing better. Masks can and should still be worn. The CEV have been told to shield with absolutely no support to do so whatsoever. The approach advocated in the article has created a two tier society where people like DS dare not attend a school or take a bus. I dont find that overly admirable

But rant over.

I do appreciate people taking the time to post where they caught Covid. I'm still reading and finding it exceptionally useful.

From DH who caught it at work whilst searching a flat. He knew when he went in due to what he was presented with, even fully masked, suited and gloved up, that it was inevitable. But like the NHS, some Keyworkers have been unable to mitigate risk.

PennyRoyal · 13/11/2021 20:36

Youngest DC brought it home from her veterinary practice and shared it around!

School (I'm a teacher)

bettertimesarecomingnow · 13/11/2021 20:37

Nomorefuckstogive · 13/11/2021 20:38

At school - loads of colleagues caught it the same way.

Nomorefuckstogive · 13/11/2021 20:39

From the children - the staff are socially distanced.

OddBoots · 13/11/2021 20:41

At a comedy gig, I was wearing a cloth mask but most people weren't. I plan to go to more gigs but wearing an N95.

Caramellatteplease · 13/11/2021 20:41

I'm aware that whilst we are unlucky that DS has the medical conditions he does, they has also meant we have been able to mitigate risk (I dont work because I am his carer and a lone parent so able to have both kids at home). My thoughts very much go out to those who can't.

I'm CEV (since an illness Spring this year), and the latest paperwork I had (last month) from the Government told me shielding is no longer a thing, even though I'm CEV. I've had Covid and I'm damned if I'm putting my life on hold any longer, although I respect the opinion and choices of others who choose to be more cautious. I may have a skewed thought process though as I have worked frontline emergency services throughout and crave normality now.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/11/2021 20:43

Child in my class went off positive and the following weekend I developed symptoms so I'm guessing it was from work.

It's the only place I wasn't still wearing a mask and distancing!

Caramellatteplease · 13/11/2021 20:44

😖😖😖

We wear cloth masks when were out and about in the vicinity of people but with a disposable filter.

You are quite right. The letter said do not shield just limit your social contacts and give careful consideration to no going out😱🤣😖
DS actually isnt considered CEV either. However if he turned 16 tomorrow overnight he suddenly would be 🙄🙄🙄
Weve always done our own thing really. I pulled the kids out of school 2 or 3 weeks before the first lockdown. But then I've seen DS hospitalised for both norovirus and flu. I dont find it at all surprising people want to get back to some semblance of normality. I just cant see why we cant do that whilst still wearing masks... 😁😁😁😷

The more I read the more shocked I am we have done nothing to mitigate the spread of covid in school
