Tested positive 14 days ago. Lost my smell and taste completley 6 days ago. It’s really getting me down, I feel so fed up. And looking online is making it worse as there all stories of this lasting months. Any tips on returning these sooner? Or anyone have this and it didn’t lass long. Thank you in advance

Actually walkers Thai crisps aren't vegan, so maybe I won't actually go vegan Hmm

The link above is about trials involving Vitamin A nasal drops. I've ordered some vitamin A drops in desperation.

DH doesn't seem to understand I've 100% no sense of taste or smell. He's been shopping for all my favourite foods. I had a bit of a melt down when I asked for carrot sticks (because they're crunchy, and therefor interesting to eat) and he also bought me hummus. I may have wailed "What is the point of hummus if you can't taste it?!"

I absolutely love food. I love scented candles, the smell of clean sheets etc. Devastated is a very strong word - but I'm certainly disappointed. Very disappointed. At least I can still remember and imagine how things taste. I have been imagining Toblerones quite a lot.

Walkers Thai crisps are spicy and crunchy- although you can't taste the spice, you can feel the chilli and enjoy the crunch. I may have had a large bag for breakfast yesterday

I think I might go Vegan while I can't taste.

I thought what if one day my DC have babies, and I can't smell the baby, and had a little cry to myself.

I will definitely try that thank you! It’s awful. And I completely agree, I put fresh bedding on yesterday and may have cried a little as I couldn’t smell it 😂 I really hope it’s not too long it’s so depressing

@kessiebird

Two weeks in since losing taste and smell. Mine was gone for 4-5 days completely. Taste came back gradually, still not fully but faster than smell which is still not great. Got an Indian takeaway last night, which I thought might be nice but it wasn't the same. I am enjoying some food again, compared to 10 days ago, so hang in there.
You give me hope! Thank you I really hope this is the case for me also.

Mine started to come back after 20 days or so. Seems pretty normal now, but it is horrid to lose two of your five senses Flowers

I'm still not eating much!

kessiebird · 07/11/2021 10:05

Speaking to a colleague who had it, their experience very similar to me. I was reading all the worst case scenarios. And stressing which is not good for recovery. I'm also taking high strength zinc and Vit D3. Not sure if this helped but didn't do any harm!

LynetteScavo · 07/11/2021 19:32

DD just come home with a McFlurry, and I can actually taste it. Sort of- I can taste the sugar- it must be loaded with sugar, but it's the first proper eating experience I've had in 3 days Smile

FindingMeno · 07/11/2021 19:36

Mine came back very quickly but its been about 3 weeks and my smell is less sensitive than it was.

Awh I might have to try one and see if I can 🥺. Let’s all keep each other updated on here it will be interesting to see how long it takes to fully come back. I have my fingers crossed for myself and all of you!! X

Two days in and no sign of mine yet. It’s so depressing.

@FindingMeno how quickly?

speakout · 07/11/2021 21:24

My DD has parosmia too- 5 months after Covid- many of her once favouite foods taste and smell like sewage, rotten eggs etc.

Peppaismyrolemodel · 07/11/2021 21:43

I keep smelling the same ‘smell’: strawberries, sheets, coffee- it all smells of this smell. I recently identified the smell in a local alleyway as dog shit. Now I realise that everything just smells of dog shit Confused

That's awful Sad

DS had Covid in July and he only recently told me everything still smells funny. He says the house smells a cross between Bolognese and petrol Shock

MilkCereal · 07/11/2021 21:56

I'm a primary teacher and the class next door is rife with covid- they've shut in now. I was in there last week most days sorting stuff, doing computer bits etc. We share staffroom and we all share playtime outside. How likely is it that I'll get it? Feels strange that a while ago I'd be a close contact!

PuppyFeet · 07/11/2021 22:00

Mine went suddenly and returned gradually about 10 days in… 3 weeks later it’s now almost normal.

RosieRoww · 08/11/2021 08:36

I remember that when I had a loss of smell, coffee and cigarette smoke had a same strange odour, it smelled so chemically I couldn't describe it.

Tobchette · 08/11/2021 09:05

I wrote this on another thread but I'm pregnant with Covid and I'm worried that if it doesn't return soon I'm going to give birth and won't be able to smell my baby. It's my second and last baby and if I miss that newborn baby smell I am going to be devastated.

In the meantime, I am living off soups. I get satisfaction from the colors. Yesterday Dh made a broccoli, leek, pea & potato soup. It probably tasted disgusting but the colour was bright green and the texture with some mustard seeds on top was satisfying. And we couldn't smell each other's farts afterwards.

Today we are going for bright red. Tomatoes carrots and beetroot.

If you mix in soy sauce or balsamic vinegar into food it gives some kind of taste.

I'm just using this as an opportunity to get as many veggies in my system as I can and to avoid the ice cream, chocolates, cheese that I can't taste anyway.

Anyone else getting shooting pains in the nose? As if you just did a somersault in chlorinated water? I get it many times a day even though all other symptoms have gone.

And I keep smelling and tasting cigarettes. This must be my punishment for being a smoker all those years previously.

justbananas42 · 08/11/2021 09:16

All the reports of the chemical, cigarette and fume smells people are getting - it does make me wonder whether this virus could have been manmade.

I’m onto day 5 of isolation now and day 3 with no taste or smell. It’s really getting me down.

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2021 11:33

@justbananas42 I feel the the virus in man made- I felt awful from the first vaccination, I feel similar but less awful now. I know you can't "feel" that a virus is man made, but it feels man made to me. I know that's actually ridiculous, but I can't help thinking it. And obviously I couldn't say it to people in RL because they're think I'd lost the plot.

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2021 11:34

I actually came here to say I've just tried chewing ginger and....nothing.

justbananas42 · 08/11/2021 12:00

@LynetteScavo totally agree.

I ate a spoonful of mustard last night in desperation. I couldn’t taste a thing but did get a slight burning sensation in my nose.

XiCi · 08/11/2021 12:12

I read that taking Zinc supplements helps bring it back. I was already taking zinc when I got cpvid and only lost my sense of smell for 2 days. My friends sense of taste/smell returned 5 days after starting zinc supplements

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2021 12:16

@XiCi - thanks for the tip, I shall send DH out for some Smile

sandy238373 · 08/11/2021 12:28

@LynetteScavo are you sure your DH doesn’t have Covid?

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2021 12:36

@sandy238373 DHs PCR was negative his LFT yesterday and today are negative and he's come absolutely nowhere near me since my Positive LFT. I think if he wears a mask he'll be fine to get supplies.

I actually might just order on Amazon though to get what I want, and not something random of DHs choosing.

Yellow85 · 08/11/2021 12:50

Mines has been away for about 4 weeks now. I read that zinc can help, pharmacist almost laughed at me but honestly since I started taking them about a week ago I can sense it starting to (very slowly) return. Not sure if it’s coincidence tho
