Anyone's kids 11-15 yrs had their jab? Any side effects? Need ressurance!

My kids are 12 and 14. For different reasons they both missed their corona virus jabs in school. Now I have a letter to book them in, but I'm having cold feet about any short or long term side effects, given that a few months ago the Experts were saying that kids didn't need the jab, and they are not old enough to consent on serious issues.

Me and dh both are double jabbed. Any one else worried? Talk some sense into me (gently!) 😊

My oldest aged 15 has had it. He wanted it.
My middle son 13 has said he doesn't want it.

I respected both of their decisions.

My kids were both fine. Sore arm but nothing else. 13 and
16

Mercedes519 · 04/11/2021 20:40

DS 15 had it this week. Had a slightly sore arm but no other side effects.

Caramellatteplease · 04/11/2021 20:41

Both of mine are jabbed. Ds is double jabbed. A bit of a sore arm was the limit of it for both of them. Even for DS whose medical issues mean anything can be problematic!

parrotonmyshoulder · 04/11/2021 20:42

12 year old last week. No side effects.

elliejjtiny · 04/11/2021 20:43

My sons aged 15 and 13 have had 1 dose each with no side effects. Dc1 is due to have a 2nd jab in about 2 months.

Spunout · 04/11/2021 20:44

Mg 15 year old just had a sore arm same with 15 year old Nephew and friends 15 year old son,her 12 year old refused and she respects her decision,my other friend refused her 12 year old to have it as worried about side effects even though we all double jabbed and fine.

HelloDulling · 04/11/2021 20:44

12 yr old was fine
15 yr old was only 30 days after a positive PCR, and she needed a day in bed afterwards. Fine now tho.

BeautifulTulips · 04/11/2021 20:45

Mine had a bit of a sore arm the next day, but not enough to stop her doing gymnastics and no other side-effects at all

checkedroses · 04/11/2021 20:45

Mine had his in September (straight down to the clinic the weekend they opened it up to younger teens) as did most of my friends’ teens. A couple (inc mine) were mildly fluey for 24h (one missed one day of school) but no other side effects at all. Personally I’d take the minimal risks of a new vaccine over the longterm risks of a new unknown virus any day!!

TeenTitan007 · 04/11/2021 20:50

14 year old, no side effect other than sore arm. Did a swimming crash course after 2 days.

MackenCheese · 04/11/2021 20:50

Thanks so much for your replies. I know I'm being silly. Not sure how I'll get my ds2 done as he never leaves the house due to social anxiety.... . But that's a whole other thread!

My 14 yo had it last week. He had a sore arm and a bit of a headache the next day, but that was it. Several of his friends had the jab at the same time and had the same, all fine now.

MySaladDaysAreGone · 04/11/2021 20:53

14 year old son had 10 days ago.

No side effects whatsoever.

bambooelectrictoothbrushhead · 04/11/2021 20:54

No side effects here. 15 year old ds

icedancerlenny · 04/11/2021 20:55

My 12 year old had no side effects.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 04/11/2021 20:59

12 & 13 year olds here, one had a headache for a few hours, the other nothing really.

mummymayhem18 · 04/11/2021 21:01

My 15 year old daughter had hers this morning at school. So far she's just said her arm is really sore.

DaisyWaldron · 04/11/2021 21:03

DS (12) had a sore arm for a bit the following day and woke up about an hour later than usual.
DD (15) had a bit of a sore arm (could still play the violin) and had an hour or two of headache and feeling a bit unwell, which cleared up with paracetamol. Both were absolutely fine two days after the vaccine.

DaisyWaldron · 04/11/2021 21:05

General discomfort was significantly less than with the HPV vaccine.

Spiceup · 04/11/2021 21:05

My sister's 13 & 14 yos have had both their jabs because their father is vulnerable. No side effects. They were also the only people in their friendship groups not to get Covid when it swept through their school last month.

BewareTheLibrarians · 04/11/2021 21:06

My 12 year old had his about 5 weeks ago and just had a sore arm for a day and that was it. He had Covid back in the first wave which has left him with heart damage, and the vaccine had absolutely no negative effect on him.

Apart from the sore arm of course, which did involve the wearing of the dressing gown of doom and having to retire to bed for a full 20 minutes Grin

didireallysaythat · 04/11/2021 21:06

DS1 (15) no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

DriftingBlue · 04/11/2021 21:07

My 12yo had 2 doses at the beginning of the summer. Spent a day feeling unwell, laying around and watching YouTube videos and texting her friends. No other problems.

She has no qualms about getting a booster as soon as she is eligible.

Heruka · 04/11/2021 21:07

I don’t think you’re being silly OP, I think it’s understandable to be nervous about vaccinating your children with a vaccine that does not yet have long term data.
