Anyone's kids 11-15 yrs had their jab? Any side effects? Need ressurance!

My kids are 12 and 14. For different reasons they both missed their corona virus jabs in school. Now I have a letter to book them in, but I'm having cold feet about any short or long term side effects, given that a few months ago the Experts were saying that kids didn't need the jab, and they are not old enough to consent on serious issues.

Me and dh both are double jabbed. Any one else worried? Talk some sense into me (gently!) 😊

My very over dramatic teen has hers no problem. Glad she did as she got covid so didn't suffer anywhere near as bad as she could otherwise have.

Mojoj · 05/11/2021 08:41

@BewareTheLibrarians you go ahead and get your kids injected with a vaccine that may cause deadly side effects. We've all had Covid. And survived. I'm going to let nature do its work.

BewareTheLibrarians · 05/11/2021 09:00

@Mojoj Let nature do it’s work? Great idea. My 12 year old caught Covid in the first wave and it damaged his heart. 20 months on, it’s still not recovered. It might never recover. We just have to wait and see. Before he caught Covid he was slim, fit, no underlying conditions, just a regular sporty kid. Who now can’t participate in the sports he used to, or keep up with his friends, or sometimes attend school full time. And that’s not the only damage that’s left, just the easier to explain.

He had the vaccine, had a sore arm for a day. (And reassuringly, studies have shown the vast majority of myocarditis cases after the vaccine resolve without medical intervention - ie they’re very mild and get better quickly.)

Have a look at this thread on data from Israel re vaccine damage and COVID damage: main takeaway is
“It may be fairer to divide the number of myocarditis by 2nd dose count, and not by all shots. Still, this would give ~3.4 severe cases per million vaccinated for 16-19y old males, and 6/M for 20-24. In contrast, you get hundreds per million severe COVID and PIMS.”

And again - 69,000 kids with long covid, 10,000 with long covid for over a year.

DD 14 had it last week, sore arm the next day no other side effects. Her decision to get it done

Make sure that anyone having a Covid vaccine drinks lots and lots of fluid (water) before and after. Really helps.

@BewareTheLibrarians
Can you give me the link to long Covid research please? I had thought that there had been newer research stating that (a) long covid had been over-estimated and (b) the research is primarily based on self-reported symptoms. Am I wrong?

gogginsmrs · 05/11/2021 12:09

I have three kids, middle one ds 14 missed it due to chest infection. Dd1 (15) and dd2 (12) both had it - a month after having had covid. Dd2 totally fine - just achey arm for 24 hours. Dd1 vomited several times about 4 hours post vaccine and was sent home from
school. Felt sick for remainder of day. Just an achey arm following day. A couple of her form also sent home after being sick. All had had covid around a month earlier as most of her form came down with it.

What’s the problem with self reported symptoms? Ask yourself what else people are supposed to do when there’s no coordinated response by the NHS or government to keep track of cases of long covid or even treat them? Our gp and consultant have been fantastic with my son, but all his symptoms/problems aren’t passed on to some higher body for monitoring. If we stopped going for appointments, or weren’t able to get appointments, we wouldn’t be counted at all. How could we be?

Is the problem with self reporting that you think children are making it up? Do you think assuming that people are making it up is a relevant reaction when this attitude means that children with long term health problems risk being ignored?

Pinkyxx · 05/11/2021 12:17

DD 12 had hers a few weeks ago. Sore arm and really tired / feeling grotty later that day. Still felt a bit off the next morning but fine by lunch time. She had Covid last year so I was expecting a bit of a reaction having read prior Covid increases the side effects.

Pinkyxx · 05/11/2021 12:19

@antsinyourpanta

Mine are 12 and 15. They had at school a few weeks ago. The only side effect they had was a sore arm for a couple of days and they agreed to stop punching each other in the arm until that had subsided. 🙄

My 15 year old is double jabbed on account of me. No side effects at all apart from a slightly sore arm after the second one. She was completely in favour of it.
In between her covid jabs she had a flu jab as did my younger dc who's under 12. Again with protecting me in mind.

cloudyautumnaldays · 05/11/2021 13:40

My two are 12 and 15 and they have both had theirs 1 week ago. The only side effect for both was a sore arm.

They both wanted it, especially the y11. We based our decision on the basis that the research so far has found the vaccine to be to their benefit just in terms of serious affects of covid vs side effects of the vaccine. That is apart from other harms of covid such as missing school, passing it on to elderly relatives and long covid.

Of course we now have covid in the house already before their vaccines will take effect so it was probs not necessary 😁🤣😫

DD1 is 15 & had her's in Sep. Had a slightly sore arm for about 12 hours (whereas mine hurt for about 3 days - it made me realise how often I lean on doorways).

Since then I (double vaccinated) & DD2 (unvaccinated as too young) have both had separate mild bouts of C-19 and DD1 hasn't caught it - she was LFDing every day.

Passthecake30 · 05/11/2021 14:55

Ds thought he had side effects after his vaccine. Turned out he actually had Covid…Hmm

inferiorCatSlave · 05/11/2021 16:21

I did worry but they were all keen - three children 2 DDs, 1 DS between 12 and 16 - all completely fine - 16 year old had a sore arm for a day otherrwise nothing.

Covid rates are really high here and school seems to be having problems so really glad they were all done.

The vaccine has been given to millions of adolescents already. I’ve not read about it causing any deaths - can you point me in the direction of that data?

megletthesecond · 05/11/2021 16:55

14yr old DS was fine.
13yr old DD had a fever and sore arm for 48hrs.

Guess which child did self care and ate and drank sensibly the day after the jab and which one didn't eat or drink until lunchtime Hmm.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 05/11/2021 23:47

My 13 yo complained of a sore arm and was really tired for about 6 hours afterwards but had a snooze and then was absolutely fine.

Larryyourwaiter · 05/11/2021 23:49

Sore arm and that was if. She has a second one to look forward to as well.

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 05/11/2021 23:56

15 year old had it yesterday. Said it hurt when done and sore arm this morning. Nothing else.

17 year old had hers in summer and was tired and slept most of the next day but didn't feel ill.

I didn't get any side effects from mine (49)

TheTempest · 06/11/2021 00:49

DD who is 12 had hers beginning of October. Absolutely fine, no side effects not even a sore arm. I have her the choice, we talked about it and researched it a bit together. She was absolutely fine and I can be a bit more reassured that if she gets covid then she should hopefully not have it too badly. I know it’s stressful knowing what to do for the best for your kids, but in my view the potential risk of vaccine outweighed the potential risks of a possibly serious illness and long term issues. Good luck op
