Anyone's kids 11-15 yrs had their jab? Any side effects? Need ressurance!

My kids are 12 and 14. For different reasons they both missed their corona virus jabs in school. Now I have a letter to book them in, but I'm having cold feet about any short or long term side effects, given that a few months ago the Experts were saying that kids didn't need the jab, and they are not old enough to consent on serious issues.

Me and dh both are double jabbed. Any one else worried? Talk some sense into me (gently!) 😊

Mine (12 and 14) had sore arms but were fine. To their irritation-amusement there was lots of absence from school on the day after tho…

Btw I will never get the long term data thing. How abt the pneumococcal vax that came out between my 2 eldest (abt 11 years ago) - no long term data on that at all but was absorbed into the vax schedule without a murmur..:

Madcats · 04/11/2021 21:11

14 year old had Covid (like a big hay fever reaction) in July (but still can't smell too much).

We did the jab last Wednesday. Her arm ached for 3 days ( she would normally have swam a few km, but she asked not to)

I think she had 2 paracetamol.

She's fine now.

@Heruka

I don’t think you’re being silly OP, I think it’s understandable to be nervous about vaccinating your children with a vaccine that does not yet have long term data.
Which is fair enough, but we also need to balance that with being nervous about a virus that doesn’t have long term data.

My ds has heart problems caused by covid that have been ongoing for 20 months now. Previously fit, healthy and slim, nothing that would indicate he’d be harder hit than other kids.

10,000 kids in the UK currently have been experiencing long covid symptoms for over 12 months, according to ONS numbers. That’s pretty shocking.

Heruka · 04/11/2021 21:25

I’m really sorry to hear that, Beware, it’s true all options carry so many unknowns. I am glad my kids are too young for me to have to face this decision.

I agree I've never questioned a vaccine before just went ahead with whatever I was told I/they needed to have. I had the swine flu jab when pregnant with DS2 had whooping cough vaccine with DS3 without a second thought. I cant decide now if I'm being irrational questioning the potential side effects/benefits to this covid vaccine for my dc or I should feel guilty for being too blasé going ahead with other vaccines without even contemplating any consequences from it.

DC1 is 14. She had the jab at the end of September. Sore arm for a few days, no other ill effects.

DC2 is too young for the jab. She got COVID a couple of weeks ago, and was quite poorly. DC1 didn't get it, and was pleased she'd been vaccinated.

delilahbucket · 04/11/2021 21:53

DS13 had his two weeks ago. Sore arm for two days and that was it. Like it never even happened. He was desperate to have it although I did lots of research.

Dartsplayer · 04/11/2021 22:22

DS14 had it a few weeks ago. Sore arm, no other side effects

Canigoonroblox · 04/11/2021 22:28

My 12 year old son had it last week, he had a sore arm and felt really tired at night, was fine the next day. He was very keen to get it, I know that the benefits are mainly for the rest of the community but felt that it is worth it for the greater good. He has a couple of friends with vulnerable siblings and parents so he wanted to fell like he was helping protect them as well as himself.

Bellie710 · 04/11/2021 22:30

DD15 absolutely fine no side effects, DD13 slightly sore arm but nothing else.

EsmeShelby · 04/11/2021 22:32

Yes he had a sore arm but no other side effects.

MargaretThursday · 04/11/2021 22:47

14yo had it on Monday.
*He had a mild temperature overnight and was very dopy on Tuesday with a sore arm.
Was sick Wednesday night, and had a migraine this morning.
The latter two may or may not have been connected to the vaccine.
But even if they are connected it's still a mild reaction for him to a vaccine. He normally faints, has a very high temperature for 2-3 days and sometimes comes out in a rash.

*He also talked non-stop on the way home at speed about one topic. I did suggest I reported it as a side effect. Grin

YankeeDad · 04/11/2021 23:06

13-year old had one jab. Sore arm for 1 day and was a bit tired and thirsty. No other side effects.

16-year old had both jabs. Sore arm for 2 days on the first jab, slightly sorer arm on the second jab, no other side effects.

nex18 · 04/11/2021 23:42

Ds 15 had his as soon as possible after his positive test (day 29). He had a bit of a sore arm. He suffered significantly less than I did or his older sister, we both were really tired, maybe because he sleeps in late and is lazy anyway so no discernible difference!

WhoWants2Know · 04/11/2021 23:43

13 was fine, and she's a "Princess and the pea" sort of girl who struggles with the slightest discomfort

Mojoj · 04/11/2021 23:50

Kids don't need vaccinated to "protect" adults who have already been vaccinated. It's ludicrous.

MackenCheese · 05/11/2021 05:26

My thoughts exactly @Mojoj

DS 14 had it on Wednesday. His arm aches like hell, but apart from that he's fine.

BewareTheLibrarians · 05/11/2021 08:00

@Mojoj

Kids need to be vaccinated to protect themselves. 69,000 kids have long Covid now, and 10,000 kids have had long Covid for 12 months plus. (Not to mention 4 child deaths registered this week).

Please don’t fall for the nonsense that it’s purely to protect adults. It’s not true.

50ShadesOfCatholic · 05/11/2021 08:05

14yo, totally fine 👍

maddy68 · 05/11/2021 08:07

I'm a teacher in Spain. Our 12+ were offered the covid vaccine ages ago. We have over 98%take up. No unusual side effects

SunflowersInTheShade · 05/11/2021 08:07

DS 12 had a sore arm - nothing else.

Notonthestairs · 05/11/2021 08:07

My 12 and 13 year old kids have both had the vaccination - no side effects for either.

antsinyourpanta · 05/11/2021 08:09

Mine are 12 and 15. They had at school a few weeks ago. The only side effect they had was a sore arm for a couple of days and they agreed to stop punching each other in the arm until that had subsided. 🙄
