@Anythingbutsnow surely that's not true. Saving every single life cannot be done. Are people thick?
Yeah.

That's why when you go to hospital the doctors and nurses just stand round your bed and wave you off into the afterlife.

You can't save every life so obviously there's no point in even trying.

GoldenOmber · 21/10/2021 18:46

People think “the economy” is stocks and shares and rich people in suits. Not children growing up in poverty, or what long-term unemployment and deprivation might to do someone’s life expectancy.

The Torys have more control over that. They just don't want to

You're wrong. It's in the news in other countries.
The only reason it's in the news is because our retarded media love to whip up a storm without caring about the consequences of it. Much like many scaremongering posters on here.

Why does France not get mentioned more? There hospitalisations are very similar to ours yet the only have 25% of our reported cases... either were testing too much or others aren't testing nearly enough. Especially now France decided its a good idea that now the demographic most like to transmit the virus (unvacinated) now have to pay for lateral flow tests, .... how people can't see that this will manipulate case numbers to look lower is beyond me.

Does anyone actually have a graph of our current weekly excess deaths (not yearly) I'd be surprised if its much over the average.

Tuba437 · 21/10/2021 23:04

@PrincessNutNuts if you honestly believe they will save every life regardless of cost etc you must be kidding yourself. Without sounding horrible they are not going to spends thousands and thousands on saying say a 95 year old life. It's just not viable. The could most like give them a few more months but it's not cost effective when that money could be spent saving a much younger life.

milkyaqua · 22/10/2021 00:58

@Anythingbutsnow

If anyone does yougov poles, they are a good way of predicting what the government is planning. Today's question was 'what do you think is more important? Saving every single life or protecting the economy'. The results are showing about 60/20 in favour of first option.
That is heartwarming. And a relief.

It really isn't. It's because the figures for the UK are shocking.

Of course people will say the figures aren't accurate. It's because the Uk is doing more testing. It's because the UK is counting random deaths as COVID-related. It's because other countries aren't doing as well. But, cutting through the bullshit, the UK figures are shocking. The UK government response is shocking and people across the world are watching the situation in the UK and wondering how things went so wrong.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 22/10/2021 01:32

@Tuba437

No to all of it. It's in the news because once again this government won't do what needs to be done before it's too late. "Oh look, we are about to go right off this cliff. Eh let's see what happens. Oh shit we went off the cliff, pull the brakes, pull the brakes!!" And then we lie there, in the wreckage, once more. This government is a joke and so are we to everyone else.

Oh fun, a typical conspiracy theory style name spouting shite. What else is the Internet for?

Plan B is not a lockdown, you fucking numpty. Maybe read news that isn't coming from uneducated morons on Facebook. It might help you and your mental state greatly. Facebook is incredibly dangerous for certain people.

It's a hypothetical survey. ALL people can't be saved, but the economy can't be perfect for all people either.

Reductive version:

Save your Mum?
Pay that computer analyst his furlough?

Now the choice gets easier.

And the results remember are published in a "most people would prefer for the vulnerable to be shielded again, even if that costs the economy" or: "most people think the economy should be protected at all costs and therefore WFH should be scrapped" way. The survey producers already know which sentences they're going to run with. They just insert dramatic "bait" questions to get their numbers.

In the real world it's not so simple.

@Tuba437

France has masks in places like shops and vaccine passports.

That’s why their cases are lower

That’s what we should do. Period.

As it’s no hassle to anyone unless contraindicated to masks and vaccines

Just stupid and pathetic not to do this

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/10/2021 07:47

@Cascascascas do you know how the vaccine passports work in France regarding boosters? In December I will be 6 months past my second jab but very unlikely to be called for a booster (thankfully). Would I still be classed as fully vaccinated?

So thell me why there hospitalisations are similar to ours? 6.5 k currently in hospital even though there cases are 25% of ours?

I don't know about France but when boosters became available in Israel the people who didn't want it/get it had their vaccine pass removed.

There was public unrest not surprisingly.

Delatron · 22/10/2021 08:25

Did we all find the French cases shocking back in April? When our cases were low? Did we look at them in horror and wonder why they refused to lockdown like we had done for months! I understood what Macron was doing then.

We’re all at different stages in this pandemic.

GreenLakes · 22/10/2021 08:29

Tbh I think that poll just shows that the majority of the public haven’t got a clue.

Clearly if we closed roads, fenced off water, banned alcohol and sugar, we would see less deaths.

But those things are not compatible with a free society.

True
MarshaBradyo · 22/10/2021 08:36

I can’t believe anyone takes it seriously, it’s so loaded it’s a thread on here not a poll

Parker231 · 22/10/2021 08:46

The government have totally messed up handling the pandemic. They have dug themselves into a position which isn’t working and the deaths from Covid still remain incredibly high.
They would be better (but Boris won’t) admit as soon as possible that changes are needed and make masks mandatory for everyone from 11+ in an indoor setting and recommend social distancing and working from home where possible.

bluetuesdayy · 22/10/2021 09:14

@Parker231 do you really think deaths are 'incredibly high' ? Or have you lost all perspective of how many people die every day from a variety of things.

67 million people and 140 a day of Covid. 450 from Cancer.

Parker231 · 22/10/2021 09:16

Yes they are incredibly high when they could have been prevented. Other countries have handled Covid so much and have had less deaths.
