I’ve learnt that @Dave20, it’s inevitable than plan B is coming Sad. There is already full literature about how and when to use a domestic vaccine passport loaded onto the government website. We’re also just about to pass the peak so new restrictions will be nicely timed to look like they work and keep convincing people that it’s the right thing to do, I despair!

worriedatthemoment · 25/10/2021 16:01

@Dave20 are you saying that most other countries have it wrong then? As pretty much all have more restrictions than us

Lostinacloud · 25/10/2021 16:07

And how’s that working out for them? Yes Western European countries are currently at the back end of their most recent wave which was a few months after the uk and so cases appear low. However, they are all now steadily on the rise again and Eastern Europe are even further along, with draconian Lithuania who have a horrific socially excluding vaccine passport scheme, registering 1400 cases per 100,000 today.

worriedatthemoment · 25/10/2021 16:26

@Lostinacloud you don't know what there cases will be in a month or so , thats just your best guess
What scientific degrees or experience do you have in virus's

Lostinacloud · 25/10/2021 16:39

I don’t need a scientific degree to have been able to have read and followed data from all kinds of sources over the past 18 months and to therefore be able to have a pretty good idea of how things will go. Just like in the uk, Lithuania’s case rate will peak and then fall again no matter what the human intervention. Vaccines will largely protect the vulnerable but restrictions won’t end until people finally figure out that they need to say no.

Dave20 · 25/10/2021 19:26

All I know is there’s massive labour shortages , food shortages, fuel prices going up, inflation, food prices , energy and furlough has ended.
So I’m sorry if I don’t want an anther lockdown - not really bothered about other countries policies.

Dave20 · 25/10/2021 19:27

And of course the people that die from non covid related problems as a result of lockdowns.

Why do you keep going on about lockdown? We aren't anywhere near plan C. We are however discussing plan B. Work from home and wear a fucking mask.

It is also "vaccine only certification" for nightclubs and large events. Only fully vaccinated allowed... no exceptions for negative tests or proof of recent infection.

Dave20 · 25/10/2021 20:13

Because I wouldn’t be surprised if plan c happens. Tell people to stay home and work from home.
It’s like saying the pub is open but it’s best to avoid it

Dave20 · 25/10/2021 20:15

Excuse my ignorance but are the people being hospitalised vaccinated or not?

Porcupineintherough · 25/10/2021 20:30

Some are but the % of unvaccinated hospital admissions is far higher than the % of unvaccinated adults in the general population.

Fashionista1995 · 26/10/2021 01:08

What good will work from home actually do? Presumably it’s just for office workers etc who will continue to mix socially anyway. I hate working from home and do not want to go back to working from my bedroom whilst everyone else can live life reasonably normally.

Well, it probably is best to avoid it, at least for getting hammered.

Exactly this.Whilst some people can work from home, I’d say most can’t. And the ones that can that I’ve spoke to want to go back to the office, atleast some of the time.
The biggest industry’s in this country are the retail and hospitality sector. These people can’t work from home.
So again it only applies to office workers whose kids go to school, who mix socially with people outside of work.

worriedatthemoment · 26/10/2021 10:10

@Lostinacloud well you do need a degree to state what will happen, you can say what you think might happen , even scientists can't agree fully as this is a new virus / pandemic so you can't say with any certainty at all and even less certainty that a scientist who will be able to understand a lot more and also those that actually have access to all the data rather than just whats been in the paper

worriedatthemoment · 26/10/2021 10:12

@Dave20 we are aware not all can wfh but the idea is that some can and maybe a less busy train means more space , offices less busy
Hardly anyone I know wfh has or wants to ho back fully why the numbers are still high
Its a few simple measures that may help , you keep going on about lockdown , that isn't plan b, but what may happen if hospitals become overwhelmed
Every year they struggle as is , throw in this and what do you think will happen ?

worriedatthemoment · 26/10/2021 10:13

@Porcupineintherough people can't figure this out

ScarlettSunset · 26/10/2021 11:36

Surely working from home where possible is just about reducing overall contacts.
If someone who usually works in an office works from home, then even if they do go out to the pub and pick up Covid there, they're not then going into the office and spreading it also to their colleagues (who in turn aren't then spreading it to their families etc)

bellamountain · 26/10/2021 11:45

@ScarlettSunset I just see it as a massive FU to the working classes who cannot work from home and who continue to be shafted by the government left right and centre. It's very much protect the middle classes and don't worry about the rest. I have no issue with working from home if your employer allows it but for those office workers refusing to go in (because it's not safe) but still enjoying themselves socially in every other packed situation, I really do think it's taking the piss.

worriedatthemoment · 26/10/2021 12:16

@bellamountain im working class just because you work in an office doesn't make you middle class automatically does it ?

worriedatthemoment · 26/10/2021 12:16

@ScarlettSunset well yes exactly that if you have 5 contacts or 50 contacts - big difference

ScarlettSunset · 26/10/2021 17:11

@bellamountain I can see that would be upsetting. I don't know anyone who's refusing to go in though. I wouldn't get the choice as it's up to my employer.

Plan B

@PrincessNutNuts

New YouGov poll:
To be fair that was done before cases started to drop. I think most people right now would like to see how the next few weeks play out before making any rash decisions.
