Increasing number of cases

Could anyone please explain to me why it is that the UK is recording such a high number of daily cases, and rising, whereas the rest of Europe and elsewhere seem to be showing a steady decline in numbers? It really baffles me!

Sorry I meant in French schools. It must be compulsory over there for 12+ to wear masks? I wondered if they had an end goal. Say until after winter?

Given that Covid will always be circulating.

TableFlowerss · 18/10/2021 18:53

@Howshouldibehave

So you don’t think 85% uptake would have been good?…..

I think it would have been very good.

I know enough about schools to have known it clearly wasn’t true though.

Well good for you. Pat on the back for knowing the ins and outs of everything.

Just to say I didn’t mean your question was odd.

More the response earlier..

MercyBooth · 18/10/2021 18:56

Good luck with a plan B lockdown after the news coming out about No 10 last Christmas!

Delatron · 18/10/2021 18:57

Yes sorry @MarshaBradyo I think I double posted with you! I didn’t understand the other response either so felt I should clarify I meant French schools!

I feel the same way - unreasonably angry about that.
itsallgoingpearshaped · 18/10/2021 19:10

Because the UK is a lot more like the US than it likes to pretend:

  • Picking the economy over lives
  • Not closing down initially until they really had no political choice; they're still doing it, frankly
  • Picking 'freedom' over social good
  • Not requiring masks in enclosed spaces
  • Allowing too many ridiculous exemptions for mask wearing
  • Not requiring covid passports for clubs, restaurants, etc
  • Not vaccinating secondary school students before they went back to school this autumn
  • Allowing two tiers of rules to apply: the wealthy and connected have always continued to do what they want when they want, while everyone else has to follow the constantly changing 'rules'
MercyBooth · 18/10/2021 19:16

And once more with feeling. HOW DOES THE MAGIC VACCINE PASSPORT STOP TRANSMISSION IF THE VACCINE ITSELF DOESNT?

MercyBooth · 18/10/2021 19:17

I wont be complying with any more lockdowns.

covidwoewoe · 18/10/2021 19:18

@User135644 what's with the buzzwords 'sleepwalking into a lockdown' and by Christmas....

We are booster jabbing. And I'm not totally sold that anyone is 'sleep walking'.

MercyBooth · 18/10/2021 19:19

ive worn the masks and ive had the vaccine. But another lockdown and my stance on vaccines will change on New Years Day 2022

me too !
frumpety · 18/10/2021 19:43

Maybe they are hoping the cases will rumble along at the current rate without any massive spike in cases ?

I’m not French but I think I read recently they were getting rid of masks in primary schools very soon, maybe this week, unless the area has a particularly high incidence rate.

Disneyland is loosening their restrictions Grin

PersephoneJames · 18/10/2021 19:51

Oh - it was from 4th October - no more masks in French primary schools.

Delatron · 18/10/2021 20:02

Thanks @PersephoneJames I didn’t realise they had them in primary as well as secondary.

HSHorror · 18/10/2021 20:09

Its obviously the vax for teens.
2 doses starting what jun.
Totally ridiculous here to take so long.
Also im not sure it's not the stock of pfizer that is limiting everything.
They need to buy more!
Basically AZ just isnt as effective and evrn say a 10% difference would make a big difference overall. Because any still getting infected are spreading and there are so many more able to catch it.
A situation where say only 1/10 chance of getting it is much different to 1/2. Then the vaxxed who do get it are getting mild non covid symptoms so again spreading.
All the parents still catching it. All clubs back on.
Our school is even having xmas fayre which is quite horribly crowded normally. And say gym clubs now have parents watching too. I would say fabric masks work as we went to a theme park and avoided catching anything (even with inside q as wearing masks). Now dc2 has a cold from school or a club as no masks or distancing.
The fact we are having so many colds is also driving up need for days off and testing.
Basically im furious my dc education is being ruined by the gov!
Cases are so high we arent seeing the grandparents inside or eating out.
The economy wont fully bounce back till they get a handle on these cases.

PersephoneJames · 18/10/2021 20:10

Yes, from 6 in most of europe I think. From 2 in parts of the US and Dubai Shock

LidlMiddleLover · 18/10/2021 20:11

Mainly because other countries have not faffed about with people who are refusing vaccinations They have just got on with it and vaccinated everyone

whattodo2019 · 18/10/2021 20:13

I have covid at the moment. Caught it at the school I work at. We hadn't had any cases until september and since the change in regulations we have had a significant number of cases. Whilst most of the children have been ok, a number of us healthy, double vax adults include myself have been really rather unwell ....

Delatron · 18/10/2021 20:19

Wow how have other countries managed to vaccinate people who have refused @LidlMiddleLover ?

Delatron · 18/10/2021 20:21

When did France’s cases start to fall? So they were high Jan-April then began to fall in May? So after 4 months of high infections. But they wouldn’t have started vaccinating children then and at that point they were behind in vaccinations.

I wonder why France’s cases started to naturally fall after 4 months of high cases?

They didn't but they introduced the Covid health pass.

The acceleration of France’s vaccination campaign against the coronavirus is largely believed to be due to its controversial “health pass” policy. Between late July and early August, showing proof of immunisation or a negative Covid-19 test has become mandatory for people entering cinemas, museums, restaurants and bars, and for those using long-distance public transport.
