Got my positive test back today, have had symptoms since yesterday. They're fairly mild at the moment. I feel a bit crappy, sore throat/cough/runny nose etc, but nothing awful. Just wondering what to expect, I suppose.

Can anyone share their experiences, please? I know that some people still get really sick despite having been vaccinated whereas others are barely sick at all.

I'm double vaccinated with AZ, had my second shot back in June. I'm in good health generally, and don't really have any underlying conditions that I'm aware of, but I am quite overweight.

What have other people's experiences been? Is there anything I can do at this stage to reduce the likelihood of getting seriously ill?

Not sure but I'm in the same boat. DH has been double jabbed with AZ and honestly it's the most sick I've ever seen him in our 20 years together. So far I'm just a bit chesty and been sneezing like mad so more like than cold than I expected but I got my positive result yesterday so will keep my fingers crossed.

On the other hand my 60 year old mum who has smoked almost all her life was completely aymptomstic and was so shocked by her positive result. That was last month and she was literally no different to normal, like absolutely fine. I guess it's a mixed bag.

Sorry that your dh has been so poorly @Starlive23. Can I ask what symptoms he has? I hope he is on the mend now and that he escapes the worst of it.

Sorry that was meant to say that I hope you escape the worst of it, but I hope he does too!

He has been dreadful, at first I thought he was milking it a bit but he can hardly walk uo the stairs, seems to have not eaten for days, huge temp and awful cough. Just really like the worst flu I've ever seen. I think he tends to go down like a sack of spuds when he has a cold but this is totally different. It's a week tomorrow and really he's got worse instead of better.

AlexaShutUp · 07/10/2021 19:08

Sorry to hear that @Starlive23. Did he have it badly from the start? I really hope he gets better soon. Please do get medical help for him if you're really worried.

It's almost three weeks since I started symptoms. I'm doubly vaccinated as of July.

First week was pretty much like a cold, second week was really not great - fever, cough, no sense of smell. Now I only have the cough left.
I have had one worse flu-like illness in the past, but otherwise its the longest I've felt ill for ever. The second week dragged on horribly with the high temperature making me feel rubbish, not sleeping properly etc.

However I am sure my case would only be described as 'mild' symptoms, since at no time did I deteriorate quickly, or get low on oxygen. I used a pulse oximeter to check this, it was quite reassuring.

Starlive23 · 07/10/2021 19:14

He started out a bit worn out but it's got worse and worse. Doesn't want to ring 111 as the wait times are terrible (was on hold for 45 mins when our 6 month old baby was poorly with it) but it seemed to go from a bit rough to can't get out of bed and stayed that way.
My mum had no symptoms and sister had a few days of sneezing then back to normal. Both only tested because of a close contact. From what I've heard it's more cold/flu symptoms after the jabs. I'd dread to think how bad it would be if he hadn't had any jabs.
To be honest I was a bit naive and thought the kids would be worse as they obviously are too young for the vaccines but DH has well and truly suffered. Fingers crossed hey? Maybe it's a man flu type thing!

I tested positive on Wednesday and I’m double jabbed from July. So far, I’ve experienced flu like symptoms but not as bad as when I actually had flu years ago. I really hope it doesn’t get any worse.

AlexaShutUp · 07/10/2021 19:20

@PhiRhoSigma, thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry you have been so unwell with it and hope you're on the mend now. Scary to think that even "mild" symptoms can be so debilitating. I have a pulse oximeter so will definitely make use of that.

@Starlive23, I really hope he turns a corner soon. Thank goodness he is vaccinated, as who knows how bad it might have been otherwise.

Thanks @Gyptian. (Love the username btw). Hope that's as bad as it's going to get for you (and me!)

Double vaxxed in June, was convinced I just had a heavy cold and quite surprised by positive LFT and then PCR. I feel rotten, cough has died down a bit today (day 4) but still feel feverish and very muzzy-headed, no appetite. It's a total pain in the backside. Grrrrtrr!

PhiRhoSigma · 07/10/2021 19:28

PPs who are ill, wishing all of you and yours a speedy recovery.

Both my DDs also got a bit unwell also, but were better within a couple of days. Oh to be young.
I'm very glad DH didn't get it though, he is apparently properly immune from the vaccine. For now, anyway.

AlexaShutUp · 07/10/2021 19:28

Sorry to hear that @Couchpotato3. I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

I'm in the same boat!
Did LFT on Tuesday before going in to work Wednesday, had a headache and felt very tired.
Positive, had a PCrR Tuesday afternoon.
Yesterday I was absolutely exhausted, ached all over developed cold like symptoms!
Positive test through this morning ☹️
Today I feel less tired although cold symptoms are worse but still feels like a cold!
I'm 54, asthmatic & overweight but do lots of exercise so really hoping I don't get worse!

TeamRick · 07/10/2021 19:37

Am DJ'd with AS, last one May!

This thread will be useful I think - we can look out for each other!
Hope everyone does ok Thanks

Cherrydown · 07/10/2021 19:44

Can I join in?

Sneezing lots on Tuesday, negative LFT but positive PCR this morning.

Yesterday and today just feels like a heavy cold, bit of a dry tickly cough, nose isn't running as much today. So exhausted though, I've been pretty much horizontal all day.

Couchpotato3 · 07/10/2021 19:50

Just ate an all day breakfast for tea (thanks DH). Tasted like salty cardboardConfused

sparklyhippo · 07/10/2021 19:58

I'm just waiting on my PCR result but had 3 positive LFTs last night so I am pretty sure of the outcome! Had second AZ jab beginning of June.

I do routine testing at work. Routine LFT negative Monday evening. Tuesday my legs really ached in the evening but I'd been outside at work during the day and it was freezing, so put it down to that as my legs sometimes ache if I get too cold. Aches went away after a good sleep so went to work Wednesday as normal. Lots of people off at work with Covid and more were sent home with symptoms during the day on Weds so when I got home in the evening I did a LFT to put my mind at rest. Was completely shocked when it came back positive as I felt fine. Did another 2 to be sure and both the same result.

Today I've woken up with a horrid cough and a sniffle. I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse and that my husband doesn't catch it 🤞🤞

AlexaShutUp · 07/10/2021 20:11

Gosh, there are quite a few of us. Sorry that all of you are going through this but it's nice to have some company!

I’m months past my second vaccination. I started out with a tickly throat and felt tired and run down. Day 3 I lost my sense of taste and smell and I had a couple of days with a really bad cold, snotty, bunged up, head all blocked and fuzzy. Once that went it was just the tiredness and feeling a little bit crappy. I had to sit down after emptying the dishwasher as I was out of breathe.

I’m a week past my ten day isolation finishing and I still have a horrid tickly throat and cough and my taste and smell are back a little bit but nowhere near normal.

sparklyhippo · 08/10/2021 10:45

Just had positive PCR confirmed. Cough feels a bit worse today.

TeamRick · 08/10/2021 11:21

I feel worse again today, completely blocked nose, sinus pain, cough is worse! ☹️

AlexaShutUp · 08/10/2021 11:23

Sorry to hear that @TeamRick. Hope you feel better later. I'm the same today as I was yesterday. Feeling pretty rough but could be worse. I'm so scared of going downhill next week!

I'm female, 48, double vaccinated with AZ and last dose in June.

I caught Covid 18 days ago off my child.

When I first caught it, I felt like I'd been hit by a truck. I was in bed for several days with fever, shivers, headaches, exhaustion and runny nose coughing, sneezing. It wasn't as bad as when I once had flu (that was the scariest experience I've had), but it was tough.

I'm still exhausted/dizzy/out of breath/headaches.
