Got my positive test back today, have had symptoms since yesterday. They're fairly mild at the moment. I feel a bit crappy, sore throat/cough/runny nose etc, but nothing awful. Just wondering what to expect, I suppose.

Can anyone share their experiences, please? I know that some people still get really sick despite having been vaccinated whereas others are barely sick at all.

I'm double vaccinated with AZ, had my second shot back in June. I'm in good health generally, and don't really have any underlying conditions that I'm aware of, but I am quite overweight.

What have other people's experiences been? Is there anything I can do at this stage to reduce the likelihood of getting seriously ill?

I'm double jabbed and came down with Covid 3 weeks ago. I'm very fit and active, running and triathlons etc

It has floored me. 3 weeks on and I'm now slowly improving

Tiredness. Cough. Fever. Literally unable to get off settee. Not eating properly - lost half stone. Which is a bonus.

I dread to think about my symptoms if I hadn't had jab.

AlexaShutUp · 08/10/2021 11:56

@iloverock, yes, I am so thankful that I've had the jabs! Hopefully they will help me avoid the worst of it!

I’m on day 4. Feeling a bit better today, so I’m out of bed and sat on the sofa watching TV. My sense of smell has completely gone and things are tasting a bit weird. I just hope that I’ve experienced the worse of it.

Hope you all start feeling better soon.

Rummikubfan · 08/10/2021 12:43

Like a bad head cold and blocked sinus / head. Really not terrible. Double vax AZ

Cherrydown · 08/10/2021 12:50

I'm on day 4, just feel a bit grotty and tired, my runny nose and sore throat has gone now. It's like a really bad cold for me.

I've worked most of the morning but looking forward to an afternoon of lying on the settee now to get over sitting upright for a few hours.

Get well soon everyone. Feeling very grateful for the vaccine.

Sugarandtime · 08/10/2021 12:50

The people that I personally know, and the people that I’ve been told about who have all had 2 injections but caught COVID have all had various experiences, exactly the same as those who haven’t had any injections.
Some it was a cold others wiped out for 2 weeks. Hopefully the injections stopped it from being worse but that’s something they will never actually know.

mistermagpie · 08/10/2021 12:53

I had it in September, double jabbed as of June. I was ok, flu like symptoms for about a week and lost smell and taste for about three weeks, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My PILS both had it at the same time and MIL was totally fine, FIL a bit worse but he has some health conditions and he was still fine at home.

DrCoconut · 08/10/2021 12:53

Me and 2/3 DC had positive lateral flows this morning. Awaiting PCR results now Sad

bettycat81 · 08/10/2021 12:55

I tested positive 12 days after my 2nd AZ jab. It wasn't the worst illness I've had but was the weirdest rollercoaster of symptoms. I was only properly bed ridden for a day or two with fever. It took a good 5-6 weeks to shake off the fatigue and lightheadedness.

Peridot1 · 08/10/2021 13:01

DS has just had it. He’s 20 and double jabbed.

He’s been quite miserable. Hardly ate for days. Appetite seems a bit better last few days.

He had a really bad cough. Hardly sleeping because of it. I gave him paracetamol with codeine going to bed on Saturday and Sunday and he slept much better. Slept till after 2pm on Sunday. And started to feel better after that.

He’s not a great eater - has a rubbish diet and won’t take vitamins or eat fruit which doesn’t help him.

icedancerlenny · 08/10/2021 13:08

I had Pfizer - second dose in April as I have MS.

Terrible headache last Thursday morning then night sweats that night. Next day felt awful but nothing that led me to think Covid. More night sweats. Saturday positive Lf and PCR but by that time really unwell. Sneezing, coughing, congestion, fever, headache, no smell or taste. Now I have a cough if I talk but it’s the exhaustion that’s the worst. I can watch half hour of tv then need a 3 hour sleep. I got dressed for a few hours on Wednesday but that’s it in the last week. Usually I’m very active - running, cycling, walk miles each day…. In fact last Thursday I did a 15 mile walk to try to shift the headache!

guineabird · 08/10/2021 13:47

I am a couple of days out of my isolation period- started having cold/flu-like symptoms just under 2 weeks ago. Felt awful- bad enough to be in bed constantly. Whilst waiting for my PCR result I lost my taste and smell completely, although they have started to come back. I am still no well enough to do anything much at all though- mostly because of a dizzy, vertigo feeling, tightness in my chest (not constant) and feeling exhausted. I took the dog for a short walk yesterday and it floored me.
Is anyone else struggling with lightheadedness? Feels like I', not really here and is so unsettling. I had labyrinthitis a few years ago and this feels similar. I spoke to the GP this morning and he has prescribed some tablet to try and help with the dizziness and feeling of being off-balance. I can't believe how much it has knocked me, and so many other double-jabbed people, it seems. (I had AZ in May and July).

Funkopopper · 08/10/2021 14:12

DS (double jabbed,) tested positive on 29th Sept He had about a day and a half of fever then symptoms of cough and cold for a few days, his isolation ends tonight and he's feeling back to normal. Big of a lingering cough but nothing unusual.

Me (double jabbed, diabetic,) tested positive on 2nd October. I never really got a high temperature but everything else was like a dose of the flu, aching muscles, head cold, sore throat, lost my voice, cough and absolutely knackered. Today, (day 6,) I've lost my sense of taste and smell.

DH (double jabbed,) tested positive on Tuesday. High temp, flu, awful nasal drip and can barely stay awake.

DS (not vaccinated due to age,) tested positive on Tuesday- high temp, dry cough turning into chesty cough, no appetite and woke this morning with a painfully sore throat.

I'm hoping that we're all coming out the other side, but it's slow going.

heidihigh · 08/10/2021 15:08

I'm currently waiting for PCR results, have had a bad head, sore throat and cough since Tuesday but numerous lateral flow tests were negative. Mostly lost sense of taste yesterday evening/this morning, we shall see what the results are! Envy

TeamRick · 08/10/2021 20:01

Meh and now taste & smell have gone! Feeling sorry for myself! ☹️

Mine too 😭 OH bought me self-pity snacks and now I can't enjoy any of them 😆
Madcats · 08/10/2021 20:14

DH, then teen then finally I caught Covid in July. DH and I were AZ double vaccinated.

We sneezed a lot, felt a little bit rough for a few hours. DD had a sore throat and had trouble sleeping for a day or two. I vomited a couple of times but I was using anti-cold throat spray.

DH and I were well enough to handle working from home with lengthy Teams meetings.

I guess we were lucky. We had just had a lovely relaxing and sunny holiday so maybe we were dosed up with low stress, sun and plenty of vitamins.

Take it easy, all of you feeling unwell.

hartof · 08/10/2021 22:10

I started off shivery and burning up, then turned to awful diarrhoea for about 2 weeks. Amidst that I lost taste and smell, had a cough and a horrendous headache I couldn't get rid of. Very tired and achy. It's been nearly two months I still have brain fog, I was just getting over the tiredness when this horrible cold that's going round hit and has left me feeling rougher than when I had covid - it has also developed into a chest infection which I'm convinced is to do with covid and my lungs having not recovered before I got ill again.

Cherrydown · 09/10/2021 16:34

How's everyone doing today?

I had an ok day yesterday but feel terrible today. Really muzzy head, so tired and weirdly sore legs and knees, very painful shoulder blades.

(Day 5)

coconutmonkey · 10/10/2021 10:42

Surely you will never actually know the impact having the jab has had on reducing how you feel with covid? It was always described as being an illness which would be mild for the vast majority of healthy people. So if you've had your jabs and think you got off lightly, surely that may have been the case regardless? I just don't understand how people can be so sure that they would have felt better or worse without them.

Funkopopper · 10/10/2021 11:18

Anecdotally my unvaccinated 15 year old son has suffered much more with covid than the rest of the family. He's barely able to swallow due to the pain in his throat, his fever lasted longer. In general he has been much more unwell and is struggling to recover. My vaccinated son recovered after a few days, is out of isolation and on his merry way. Myself and husband have been unwell but both with underlying health issues.

TiddleTaddleTat · 10/10/2021 11:24

Oh dear think I need to join you. DD woke with temp and headache today, positive LFT and have just been for pcr ( me too) . She's unvaccinated , feeling tired and no smell/taste. I had Covid back in Mar 20 and long covid for another 14mos. Vaccinated and second jab in June. Terrified of what's to come tbh, at the moment have a banging headache and start of muscle aches in back and shoulders. Am otherwise healthy and have been trying to keep up vitamins as first time I got it vitamin d was low and my gp thought this was why I developed long covid .

Choconuttolata · 10/10/2021 11:28

Sorry to hear of everyone feeling so unwell even after two vaccines.

I am the other way round, had Covid then two vaccines.

I am still not well with Long Covid 10 months later. Rest is really important in the early days, I didn't rest in the acute phase as much as I needed due to caring for children and it has well and truly come back to bite me. I had (and still mildly have) vertigo guineabird.

Do not rush back to previous activity levels especially strenuous exercise, start with walking and low intensity exercise to see how you go.

Sleep is massively important, if it is badly affected for you consider medical advice as poor sleep makes recovery and symptoms worse.

If you feel fatigued still and worse after an activity (even washing up) dial it back and do things sitting down if you can like food prep. Build up your strength in the home first before trying to do walks if you are struggling and build up your walking time gradually, start by trying walking up your road, round the block, 10 minutes, then add 5 minute increments.

Nutrition is also important, soups and shakes/smoothies and lots of fluids if you can't manage much food at first to keep your energy up.

If anyone starts feeling worse seek medical advice, especially with the cough, lower oxygen saturations or chest pain/breathlessness. Covid pneumonia is nasty and the earlier you get treatment the better. My DH was hospitalised with it and I know how quickly people can take a turn for the worse.

Wishing everyone a good recovery xx

Agree with @Choconuttolata totally rest is crucial. I would also add in vitamin D supplement and as much vitamin C as you can too. And absolutely avoid 'exercise' for a good few weeks at least after a mild/moderate bout of COVID (or any virus for that matter)
I was bedbound for about a week the first time but after the acute phase I rushed back into renovating the house which was hard strenuous work and then my symptoms returned and long covid had set in.
Important to remember lots of things count as physical exertion - going up and down stairs, standing to cook or wash up, vacuuming etc etc

Needanewadventure2021 · 10/10/2021 11:51

From day 4 I've felt awful. No cough but my sinuses are on fire, nose streaming, and body aches are horrendous. I'm day 7 and still feel poor. I wouldn't want it again anytime soon but I have been able to still look after my little boy and still be a Mom (as much as I'd rather be sleeping). I've definitely been slower and struggled for energy but luckily haven't been where I am bed bound
