For anyone this affects, the shielding program was stopped for good yesterday.

They snuck this news out under the cover of the cabinet reshuffle.

Have decided to ignore all the other wankers on this thread. (Why do they do it? They seem to be like moths to a flame).

Thanks for flagging this, @Egghead68 Thanks

I'm definitely eligible for a booster, & have heard nothing. Might try contacting the local PCT tomorrow.

AlixandraTheGreat · 19/09/2021 11:38

No. This seems to be from a minority who cannot see other peoples points of view, only their own. With no thought for the younger generations.

@Peteycat This complete lack of self-awareness made me chuckle. Good one Smile

Tinydancer321 · 19/09/2021 11:42

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. @Peteycat I think sctuss as Lou wants positive families to visit CEV and elderly Simone wants to spread Covid and get rid of the vulnerable. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm with you there. There is only one worldview - theirs. They have very little imagination or thought for the lives of other people.

Bizawit · 19/09/2021 11:43

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch I have reported your posts. Really not on to hurl abuse at people and call them names.

Shhhh

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/09/2021 11:50

@AlixandraTheGreat & @Tinydancer321 it is genuinely baffling to me.

Who comes onto threads where people with cancer/transplants/other-horrible-conditions are talking about policy changes that directly affect them, to try to sanctimoniously shut them down?

I mean, do they really think that it's a good or helpful thing to do?

As I say, baffling.

herecomesthsun · 19/09/2021 11:58

that was very naughty

possibly cathartic though

Just out of interest - do you support the behaviour of Peteycat? Do you report Petey's posts?

I know. I'm not sorry though.

Umm I would if I saw her hurling abusive language at other people 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/09/2021 12:09

Any ideas about where they would be looking for a better alternative model?

Realistically, they'd go for whatever made them most money, while claiming it was the answer to life, the universe and everything (showing my age Wink)

Ideally, though, any of the european systems could be worth a look. Yes they involve insurance and that's another mare's nest in itself, and the endless tory voters "preferred groups" they'd want to exempt could be a problem, but overall it's got to be better than an NHS which works for nobody except in emergencies (and sometimes not even then)

herecomesthsun · 19/09/2021 12:10

it's an interesting conjugation

I - am too precious to wear a mask

you - should have your opinion rubbished

they - should suck it up, roll over and die? so that

we - can get back to whatever normal is for us

I paraphrase

Some of the better European systems run on a much more socialist sort of model though, that wouldn't appeal here?
MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/09/2021 12:14

That about sums it up, herecomesthsun.

I had a look at the official guidance, & they seem to have gone back to 'try and stay back from people'. How terribly helpful.

We've kind of resigned ourselves to the cross-your-fingers method of protection now.

Tinydancer321 · 19/09/2021 12:17

It’s crazy how people that are not CEV now see CEV, like they are a problem in society!! They are making us lockdown. When it was never that anyway. Why can’t people who are CEV worry! No one on here asked for another lockdown and said no one should leave their homes!! However there are small steps we can take to protect people who are CEV. Like wearing a seat belt in a car doesn’t protect everyone, so would you not bother!! The issue is, people blame people with CEV for the lockdowns. It’s crazy. Such a blame culture.
Like being in all the time wasn’t hard for the vulnerable! My Nan would of never survived Covid abs sadly passed away recently which meant I didn’t see her as much (use too be weekly). But luckily we had technology and FaceTimed daily. We are not in the era where lockdowns means total isolation.
God my mum has severe schizophrenia and no one ever talks to her just stares!! I’m not sure if where all these people who are worried about social isolation have been. Because thsi has been years she has had no friends at all. Started way before Covid.
Sorry just an excuse for people to be as selfish as always.

beautifullymad · 19/09/2021 12:43

@TheKeatingFive

Mask mandates are not some magical shield against covid spread. We’ve seen this confirmed in country after country.
There are some relatively inexpensive n99 masks without vents that are recommended. They are worn by the paramedics for front line care. I use these. And I my children need to go into a busy indoor environment, they have the choice to wear them too. You can reuse them too if you spray them with alcohol.

www.ukmeds.co.uk/hygiene-face-mask-ffp3-n99

Masks make a difference to the person who might become infected. Reducing the initial viral load to the body gives us a chance to mount an immune response on day 3-4. Not wearing masks means you are opening yourself up to the possibility of an initial high viral load and your body not being able to control the infection grows.

Masks work. But probably not quite in the way everyone thinks. And decent n99 masks stop the spread but the vast majority of people don't use these.

herecomesthsun · 19/09/2021 12:58

We are using FFP2s, reusable and with fairly effective filters.

I have to say how very grateful I am for the vaccines. It is amazing we have such good ones so quickly.

I haven't but managed to book my flu jab at a small boots (the large boots were fully booked so I deliberately looked for the tiny one that's never busy!)

@Livpool

I am CEV and haven't heard anything. Nothing about the flu jab either
we have booked the flu jab independently of the covid one at our local pharmacy

our GP isn't getting any flu jabs for weeks and weeks because of some supply issue
