Surely just bring the mask mandate back now?

They are an easy measure that are no real hardship and could help (even if just in a small way) suppress this virus surely we should just bring back our mask mandate now?

@Primrosejoy

They shouldn't have stopped it in the first. To throw all the rules out the window was madness. I would have preferred some rules still in place than to have to lockdown in winter again
And what? Keep these masks on our faces forever? We need to gey back to normal. If you still want to wear one, then do so. But many choose not too.

Peteycat apologies. Misinterpreted. Long day!"

No problem, me too that's why I thought I had had a mishap!! Hope you get to relax soon!

"I envy your naïveté, does it come naturally or is it forced?"

You didn't answer the question.

In my opinion masks project clearly the message that the wearer is conscious of the virus and is mindful of protecting those around them. It probably reads as ridiculous and no doubt you’ll all come for me with the flames of hell but in some ways I feel a bond with other mask wearers, like we are on the same level, whereas anyone not wearing one it says a lot about their character (genuine exempt aside)*

How ridiculous. Everyone is conscious of the virus, we have lived through these times too you know.

It says alot about your character if you judge others for not wearing them.

No one has stopped you wearing one. Why can't you understand that? You are free, as am I to decide what is right for you personally.

We have had 2 lockdowns while wearing masks , masks aren't going to stop a lockdown.

Have only read OP message. Agree OP.

So very true. I don’t know why people continue to insist it’s one or the other. Just as likely to be neither or both!
secretllama · 15/09/2021 18:58

I'm scottish but having recently spent some time in England enjoying no masks indoors, its made me think I might just stop wearing them up here too. So I suspect many people in England will just not go back to wearing them if they bring the rules back.

Also scotland had higher rates while masks were still in compared to England without. So I doubt they do much. But hey, some people will be happy to wear them forever and can't understand that many people don't.

Helpel · 15/09/2021 19:11

I'm not overly anti mask, wore one when at all times indoors before law changed. However, stopped shopping for pleasure/leisure entirely. Stopped going for hair, nail and beauty treatments. Whilst I'd wear one for essentials, it took all joy out of those type of experiences that are meant to be relaxing sociable. I can't imagine I'm the only one.
Also recently since the law change I went to London and on the tube with my two young children. Didn't wear a mask despite recommendations as I needed them to be able to easily hear me and see my face for expression in a loud and crowded area. So yeah, they are not the Antichrist, but my goodness they are a detriment to joyful and communicative living!!

We have but the problem is nobody was really wearing them properly. If, in the beginning, everyone was issued with medical grade masks that were worn correctly then yes, might be different. I work in a customer facing roll ( busy cafe!) and can tell you 80% of people came in wearing their masks below their nose or on their chin or lifted it up to speak or it was a loose scarf around their mouth or one of those stupid plastic shield, no idea why people think that a virus can’t get behind that. So no, in these scenarios it’s not surprising they don’t work.
gardeninggirl68 · 15/09/2021 19:37

Our store is pulling up all the floor distancing signs now

All signs for covid control are in the bin and we haven't ordered more masks or hand sanitizer

Just running down what we have..... no way am I having anymore mask conversations with customers

Or did you?"

What nonsense is this now?

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 15/09/2021 19:43

one of those stupid plastic shield, no idea why people think that a virus can’t get behind that

Exempt people have continually been told on here that we should wear these, despite them being completely useless with regards to protecting either the wearer or others. They're not designed for protecting against airborne viruses - they're used for protecting against large droplets and spatter. It's very likely that those wearing them have been mask exempt and are just trying to do the right thing. Or, more likely, trying to avoid the grief that exempt people have had to put up with for over a year.

And I know some exempt people can't wear shields either, I'm one of them!

Ginandfantalemon · 15/09/2021 19:43

@Hopeisallineed
But we were never told to wear facemasks, we were told to wear facecoverings, so a scarf would be fine. People may be wearing a face shield because they cant wear something too close to their face, and in their defence, if they can manage that then it is better than nothing, and shows they are willing to try. I honestly think some people would wear a hazmat suit if they were asked. Many people have become absolutely petrified because all we are getting fed daily is the number of cases, number of deaths, what the next restrictions are, and when the next lockdown will be. All at the same time we are being told we need to learn to live with this. Impossible.

Who do you work for, Wetherspoons? 😆
Hopeisallineed · 15/09/2021 19:45

@GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr in the restaurant business these shields are often used and not particularly by people who are exempt.

Hopeisallineed · 15/09/2021 19:46

@Ginandfantalemon that’s my point, as I said if we had been told to wear medical gargled masks from the beginning and wear them correctly, it might have actually helped but we were not told this.

@Hopeisallineed
I think a lot of people got confused because we were told at the beginning of all this that face masks don't do anything. And you'll always get people who are against rules. Then we were told that any kind of face covering would do, and people interpret that in many different ways. I really think people have had enough now and I dont think introducing medical grade one now would work when so many of us have been vaccinated.

Agreed. I have mostly stopped wearing mine in Scotland after a trip down South. 100 miles from my home masks aren't mandated on the same land mass with no border 🤷🏻‍♀️
BoredZelda · 15/09/2021 20:21

What about being out shopping with someone and needing it lowered all the time to be able to have a conversation of any meaning?

That would fall under the exemption category. But to say nobody should wear masks because of this small number of cases is ridiculous.

BoredZelda · 15/09/2021 20:25

Except the reason is because have mostly stopped wearing mine in Scotland after a trip down South.

It has been shown there are fewer cases in schools that are strict with masks.

Hopeisallineed · 15/09/2021 20:43

@Ginandfantalemon i feel Like we are basically saying the same thing except you seem to think we are not even though you are para phrasing exactly my point. 🤣 I’m not suggesting introducing them now. As I have said multiple times now, IF we had been issued with proper masks IN THE BEGINNING things might have been different but they are not. Or are you just wanting to argue for arguments sake?🙈

MercyBooth · 15/09/2021 20:43

I Can Not Deal With More Psychological Abuse.

Government and NHS...............its time for you to choose. Either i
a. worry about myself by tackling the obesity epidemic by continuing to lose weight on the healthy eating plan i just started last month which is much easier to do with more normality around me.

OR I worry about Covid pandemic and 67 million strangers by struggling to wear a mask aggravating a skin condition and whatever other ridiculousness they bring back in. And turning to food to cope is why im losing weight now.

Its decision time for the power mad.
Because i havent got the mental strength to do both. So weight loss or Covid folks. Time to choose. That includes you @Thewiseoneincognito Time to choose.

Incidentally you do realise that whether women lose or gain weight the one very important close contact service that women need is a bra fitting. Pray tell me oh wise one How can women excersise safely without one (ditto sports bras) when they cant be measured due to the lockdown lovers wanting this service closed down every five minutes. And no i cant do it online Which brings me to my next point. Do it online has become the lazy arse answer to everything and you get much more excersise by going to a physical high street.

gardeninggirl68 · 15/09/2021 21:30

@Thewiseoneincognito what an odd assumption. weird..

southeastdweller · 15/09/2021 22:08

The horse has bolted on this. If it comes back as a law, and I think it will, it's so easy to lie and say you're exempt and nobody can do anything. It's all posturing from the government, anyway.
