Extremely faint line on LFT.

This is a family member’s LFT. He said “oh it’s negatice” but years of expert line eyes squinting at pregnancy tests mean I can see a line. I’ve suggested he do another LFT and then get a PCR but curious whether anyone else thinks this is a “proper” positive test!

@ConcernedAuntie

I had one that looked like that. Did another one with the same result. Had a PCR to be on the safe side. Came back negative.
Same. Weird hey?
HailAdrian · 08/09/2021 23:14

My first couple of LFTs were real squinters AND the first one became visible just after 30mins. Obviously i treated it as a positive and took a PCR test which was positive. You need a PCR.

When we hqve had superfine lines in School testing they have always come back as positive PCRs.

Droidian · 08/09/2021 23:21

And yes, that line looks clear to me.

I did LFT testing in DS’s school last term. I didn’t see one line faint or otherwise. We do them twice a week at work (healthcare setting) and again no lines.
DS came back from a festival with symptoms and did LFT very faint line appeared. Repeated it 24hrs later and it was bright pink. I am currently recovering from Covid, despite having it in Feb 2020 and being double vaccinated, I too had very faint LFT followed by a definite line 24hrs later.
Any line however faint should be treated as positive until a PCR proves otherwise.
Both DS and I were positive with PCR.
I didn’t actually catch it from DS which was strange I picked it up from a contact with a friend who was convinced she just had a cold because she was vaccinated. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a new variant out there that the vaccine doesn’t protect us from. All the positive cases I have heard of are in vaccinated individuals.
At least I won’t have to rely on a booster over the winter.

Well the PCR came back overnight and it was negative!

Oh I'm very surprised - any symptoms? My son is booked for a pcr after a faint but definitely visible line on a lateral flow last night but was really poorly overnight so it's almost a formality the pcr

ifonly4 · 09/09/2021 07:35

Thanks for letting us know the result OP. How frustrating? Do you know if he'd had a gap between drinking/eating and taking test? I might be wrong but I think something acidic cause a positive LFT.

Thirtyrock39 · 09/09/2021 07:38

There have been a few threads recently where it took a few days to get a positive pcr when ltfs were positive but these were with lots of symptoms

Spacecadetagain · 09/09/2021 07:39

My partner had four faint positives in 12 hours but the PCR was negative - he repeated it a few days later and still negative however he treated his LFTs as positives and isolated for ten days .

I find it so frustrating. My friend and her two children (one with no symptoms two without) all had negative LFTs before during and after a positive PCR. Meanwhile I had a very faint line on one yesterday now two clear negatives but have been a close contact so have been testing daily. I’ll just continue to test (unless symptoms then pcr) but I don’t think I trust them at all

Bollindger · 09/09/2021 09:28

Thanks for the update.
Better safe than sorry

blameitonthecaffeine · 09/09/2021 09:45

I could see the line on the 1st picture because that was what mine looked like too. My PCR was positive.

But a friend also had a ridiculously faint LFT the day before and her PCR was positive.

Neither of us are ill.

Just feels a bit like pot luck at this point!

blameitonthecaffeine · 09/09/2021 09:45

I mean hers was negative!

FlatStanletta · 09/09/2021 10:13

It’s very puzzling! He had waited the required half an hour after eating or drinking to test and hadn’t had orange juice or anything. Who knows!

He is going to stay home as much as possible just in case! He doesn’t have official COVID symptoms but does have a bit what feels like a cold (runny nose, bit groggy) hence why he did the test to start with!

I’ve had several tests where they have developed very faint lines after about an hour, which I’ve disregarded as being outside the 30 minute window. However I recently had a faint line appear after 20 mins, so got a PCR later the same day which came back as negative. No symptoms and repeated lateral flows over the next few days which were also negative. All a bit perplexing!

Tinpotspectator · 09/09/2021 15:03

Also you should not move the LTF before you read it, as it's not accurate afterwards, according to the instructions on ours.

Familylkfe · 28/11/2021 15:26

I see a faint line.
I had a faint line in one on Friday when I woke up wigha. Sore throat lost voice. Did 2 more LFT each were negative. Went and got a PCR test whcih was negative. In bed now with a stinking cold or could it be covid?!?!🤷🏼‍♀️

Sandyjag · 28/11/2021 15:55

Thanks this thread. I had a v similar LFT this morning and went for a PCR. Just awaiting results and still doubting I saw a line. But I know what no line looks like and it wasn’t that. Glad you’re ok OP!

Sparkle275 · 28/11/2021 16:20

I can't see a line on the first pic but I can on the 2nd. Your family member should definitely get a PCR.

Sandyjag · 29/11/2021 13:05

My PCR came back positive. I had 3 impossibly feint LFT’s beforehand, so feint I never quite believed them. But there it was
