Test & trace - contact from flight

Miseryl · 10/08/2021 14:05

DP & I returned from 7 days in Majorca on 7th Aug, with our two children. We filled in details for everyone on the passenger locator form.

Yesterday DP & I received emails & texts from Test & Trace (nothing to do with the app) telling us that we are contacts of a positive case and legally we have to isolate until 17th Aug.

We can only think this is from the flight home and were fully expecting to be contacted about the children too - we were all sat on the flight together but so far there has been nothing.

DP & I completed online questionnaires and there were no questions about the children. Our tests and emails very clearly state only our names, no mention of anyone.

Has anyone else come across a situation like this? We have all had to isolate before and I was contacted on behalf of both the DC. As it stands legally, the kids are free to come & go.

@IsabellesMissingSock I wasn't 100% sure hence why I asked.

IsabellesMissingSock · 10/08/2021 18:13

Well in the absence of published exceptions I'd take it as a blanket rule.

user1487194234 · 10/08/2021 18:52

I wouldn't isolate and you would be very unlikely to get caught/fined

Keepgoing88 · 10/08/2021 21:50

For gods sake you are not gonna get a fine unless 1) someone reports you ( OP I would look out for @pinkmoon18 ;)
2) you run around acting the fool and u get caught!
There are not police / track and tracers to literally watch you in case you pop out for a walk/coffee/shop!!

Yes, flew with DD and got contacted 5 days after arriving home but only I got the email. The end of the isolation period coincided with our quarantine anyway so it made absolutely no odds on that occasion. It definitely related to the flight as a) hadn't been anywhere due to travel quarantine and b) the telephone number which was automatically in the T&T system when I clicked the link in the email can only have come from the flight home as it was a local number from the country we had visited. I thought it was really weird that DD was sat next to me and she didn't get contacted too.

Miseryl · 10/08/2021 22:23

Our eldest (a teen) has now been tracked down! Our youngest (under 12) is still untracked.

I asked the T & T lady if we would still need to isolate past 16th and she said yes- any contacts after this date don't count but any isolations which begin before have to be completed.

What’s the point in testing prior to getting in the plane then? Just makes the whole situation more unlucky.

Testing on any given day will not pick up every infection, it's a snapshot at that particular time. Pre flight testing cuts out a good number of people positive at that moment who would otherwise get on a plane. You could test negative one day and positive the next. It doesn't catch all the people who could possibly infect others but will catch a good percentage which makes it worth doing.
EasterIssland · 11/08/2021 11:17

ffs I got contacted today , need to isolate til Sunday

EileenGC · 11/08/2021 11:35

Wait a minute. Whose number was this? With the international prefix I mean. If UK T&T contact you, it should be with an UK number. What link did you have to click on?

The country you departed will have absolutely no knowledge of your contact details or test results. At all. This all starts to sound a bit dodgy, especially if not everyone in the same family is contacted or there are clicky links to go on (unless official of course).

EileenGC · 11/08/2021 11:36

That was for @TheTeenageYears.

TheTeenageYears · 11/08/2021 12:50

@EileenGC

That was for *@TheTeenageYears*.
The telephone number was down as my contact number with the airline for my flight so I'm guessing when someone reported testing positive, T&T got in touch with the airline and were given my details as they had them recorded as a close contact.

When I got the email from T&T I thought it was a scam. I don't usually click any links and had done and panicked but then looked at the telephone number which looked vaguely familiar without the international bit and realised that must have been how it happened. I then received an extra test kit because of where we had flown from but again just me, not DD.

EileenGC · 11/08/2021 18:01

I’m glad it was genuine - and how annoying that you had to isolate. It’s just that when so many people start reporting these stories - that not everyone in their group was called etc, one starts to wonder whether they’re actually real or not, the pings. Can’t wait for this to be over…

Watapalava · 11/08/2021 18:17

T&T contact you on a 0300 number. You can google it and it comes up. It even states the number they contact you on the gov website so you can simply block it. I did and haven't used house phone for years so when i came back from Spain its possible they tried to contact me but they wouldn't have been able to anyway unless they turned up at my door.

Its pretty easy to avoid them if you want to

EasterIssland · 11/08/2021 18:28

They’ve called me today from 03000135000

Greeceplease · 11/08/2021 18:41

Yes happened to me after a flight from Zakynthos last Wednesday. Got my negative day 2 test test result on Saturday and then got email on Sunday saying I had to isolate until Saturday. My son who was sitting next to the window on the flight didn't get contacted. I didn't realise that 0300 number was the track and trace people. I thought it was a sales call so have been avoiding the multiple calls from them today.

EasterIssland · 11/08/2021 18:44

They’ve just called me. Nobody has replied me back. Nearly 30 secs saying hello hello.

Northernsoullover · 11/08/2021 18:45

All those who think we don't check... we do Wink. I've caught a few people not where they should be. Yes they do get fined.

Kitcat122 · 11/08/2021 19:20

My friend came home on a flight with her boyfriend. They sat together with 2 seats. She was track and traced from the flight he wasn't 🤷‍♂️

Mojoj · 11/08/2021 19:47

Just block the number. If you've tested negative and you're doubly jagged, you're good to go.

Northernsoullover · 11/08/2021 20:02

@Mojoj

Yeah that triggers a knock at the door 🙄

This is not correct. Tell the test & trace lady to read the legislation:

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/851/regulation/2/made

You are not required to self isolate past 16th August if :

“ii)the day on which NP (notified person) had the close contact which resulted in the notification described in paragraph (1) is more than 14 days after the day on which NP completed that course of doses”

This is made clear in the Transitional Provision
