Test & trace - contact from flight

Miseryl · 10/08/2021 14:05

DP & I returned from 7 days in Majorca on 7th Aug, with our two children. We filled in details for everyone on the passenger locator form.

Yesterday DP & I received emails & texts from Test & Trace (nothing to do with the app) telling us that we are contacts of a positive case and legally we have to isolate until 17th Aug.

We can only think this is from the flight home and were fully expecting to be contacted about the children too - we were all sat on the flight together but so far there has been nothing.

DP & I completed online questionnaires and there were no questions about the children. Our tests and emails very clearly state only our names, no mention of anyone.

Has anyone else come across a situation like this? We have all had to isolate before and I was contacted on behalf of both the DC. As it stands legally, the kids are free to come & go.

Yes - just had the same happen. We flew home in the 8th. I've been told to isolate until 18th. DH and DD (who were sitting either side of me) have not been notified - at least not yet. It's a mystery. Just done my day 2 test this morning as well, so that was a waste of time.
Wishing I was a government minister.

COL1N · 10/08/2021 14:19

Yep I also flew home from Majorca on the 8th & got a text earlier today- Im doubly vacinated, have had covid previously & just done a negative test. I dont think Im going to isolate 😬

lazymum99 · 10/08/2021 14:25

From next Monday you wouldn’t have to isolate anywAy if you are double jabbed. DH had freed himself with a day 5 test and then got an email telling him to isolate for another 2 days. It took them a week to contact him

You know it’s legally binding right? Fines of £1000 going up to £10,000
Wilkolampshade · 10/08/2021 14:39

.. Sounds like you were all on the same flight! 😂

Miseryl · 10/08/2021 14:39

It is indeed legally binding, the email is very clear on that.

It is very frustrating that from 16th Aug we wouldn't have had to isolate (both double jabbed) but it is what it is.

@MajesticWhine I thought maybe there was a delay/problem with contacting DC because they are under 18, but then your situation wouldn't make any sense. I can understand there being delays with working through all the contacts but it seems logical to work through families/seat order. 🤷🏻‍♀️

On various Trip Advisor forums there are many many people saying the same from Spain and the various Spanish Islands.

MajesticWhine · 10/08/2021 15:07

I should just say we flew from Croatia not Spain.
It's incredibly annoying. I am celebrating a significant birthday tomorrow and my plans are ruined. I am not keen to comply but I am aware it is legally binding so don't want to be a dick.

I think you still legally have to

Enjoy paying your fine then Smile
Katie517 · 10/08/2021 15:22

You will not get fines if you don’t isolate, they concentrate on enforcement for people who have tested positive if you are testing with LFTs and they are negative just get on with life as you would from next Monday. Anyone who thinks these fines would get issued let alone stand up in court are clearly not thinking straight. Also if all you have had is a text you could deny you have ever seen it, my phone has all text messages blocked due to the amount of spam texts I used to get as all my contact is done via WhatsApp. I certainly wouldn’t be cancelled events and plans when after next week you could go ahead as normal.

IsabellesMissingSock · 10/08/2021 15:28

I don't think they have the inclination or the capacity at this point to go around fining people 🤣

lazymum99 · 10/08/2021 15:42

They’ve actually got to catch you in the act first. You would be incredibly unlucky. I think they only check up in person those who tested positive, not contacts.
I know a fair few who haven’t managed to pick up the calls while quarantining and they never even phone back

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 10/08/2021 15:49

We had the same on return from Mallorca on 23 July. Both double jabbed, both negative on every test we’ve ever done. Contact from Test n Trace was relentless and threatening.
I’m not sure that what PPs are saying about 16 August rule change is right. I want to see it written down that the easing of isolation rules applies in the case of traveling with someone who tests positive.

They didn't even check up on me in person when I did have it. They called me a few times, I ignored, then spoke to them once. Submitted all my info on line.
Frlrlrubert · 10/08/2021 16:11

How old are the kids?

I was contact traced because my DM tested positive, but no mention of DD who was also there.

DM said when she was speaking to them they said something about not counting under 12s.

EasterIssland · 10/08/2021 16:35

Sorry to hear you’ve been called. We landed on the 5th. Got our results back today but still dreading the call from someone else in the plane

Regarding the kids and the form there is actually a question when filling the form that asks you whether you’re flying with under 18yo and if so you just provide their names (and I think passport but can’t remember )

Katie517 · 10/08/2021 16:37

@JosephineDeBeauharnais all isolation rules for close contacts ends on Aug 16th including those who live in the same household as a positive case. It’s already happened in Scotland and Wales and comes into force for England on Monday. You can see it in writing by a simple google search. They aren’t going to list out every scenario but it’s for all close contacts.

EmmaStone · 10/08/2021 17:15

Same happened to us - DH and I were texted/emailed, and working back on dates, could only have been our flight home from Majorca. DC (age 16 & 14) were never mentioned. We were called a few times, texted and emailed a few times.

freckles20 · 10/08/2021 17:32

My sister in law, her husband and two DC were all told to isolate after flying back from Majorca. They didn't isolate. They had several phone calls between them to check up on them and then a visit. They have been told that fines will be issued but they haven't actually been fined yet.

Sunflowergirl1 · 10/08/2021 17:44

It isn't legally enforceable until you have been spoken to in person. They cannot prove you have read the emails or messages (friend works for T&T)

Obviously the right thing is isolate...but isn't it all dropped on 16,8 for the double jabbed anyway?

RedRum27 · 10/08/2021 17:45

'From 16 August, fully-vaccinated people will no longer have to self-isolate if a contact tests positive for Covid.' - is this also the case when returning from travelling from a green list country if someone tests positive on the plane or somewhere? There is so much info it's confusing but trying to make sense of all the rules and changes. We were hoping to go away to a green list country but thinking perhaps not if you can still be required to isolate.

Katie517 · 10/08/2021 18:02

@freckles20 is that because they were contacts? Or because of the rules for flying back from an amber list country before the double jabbed exemption came in? As I have never heard of close contacts having visits

IsabellesMissingSock · 10/08/2021 18:11

Why wouldn't it be the case when returning from abroad? It seems clear to me that it's a general rule change, relating to contacts.
