The tail of two hairdressers……:

Rabblesthecat · 24/07/2021 18:23

So on my high street there are two very good hairdressers - a and b

I’ve used both over the years but more recently b. Mainly because when they reopened last summer A were hard to get hold of.

B requires stylists to have full PPE and client to wear a mask at all times. Nothing as changed since they reopened last summer and they intend
To continue that way going forward

A on the other hand - back to normal. Magazines and coffees provided. Stylists will wear a mask if requested by the client. Client can do as they wish.

I’m booked in with A next month. I could get an appointment with B tomorrow.

Driving past both. B had tumbleweed and A was fully booked and people waiting.

Just a local
Observation

I'm looking for a new hairdresser because mine are still insisting on clients wearing a mask and have said they'll continue like that for the foreseeable future. I have no intention of going anywhere that I have to wear a mask for 2.5 hours unless it's absolutely necessary.

tillytoodles1 · 24/07/2021 18:29

I'm in Wales and my hairdresser is like B, but that's still the law. I feel safe there but I'm not sure how I'll be when everything is back to "normal".

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 24/07/2021 18:30

My hairdressers my mums goes to is like A, not even allowed to bring a bag, umbrella or your own reading material Hmm

FloFlower · 24/07/2021 18:30

I’d prefer B.

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 24/07/2021 18:30

Sorry I mean B Blush

Rabblesthecat · 24/07/2021 18:31

@PowerhouseOfTheCell

Don’t you mean B

I would go to A, I would feel more relaxed

MotionActivatedDog · 24/07/2021 18:33

Do the just share the one tail? Is it like a timeshare? Wink

SirVixofVixHall · 24/07/2021 18:33

I would use B rather than A.

Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 24/07/2021 18:34

Support B for doing the right thing for employees and customers.

LadyPenelope68 · 24/07/2021 18:35

I've been to the hairdressers today. Masks were requested and all hairdressers wear masks. Screens between clients. No magazines or drinks. I would like the drinks back but otherwise it was fab- clean and reassuring, still chatted, felt like a calm and nice experience etc. I also quite like the way the mask disguises my grumpy resting bitch face while I'm reading too (my own books, but that's fine, I like it that way!).
So I'd like the drinks back. Poss a few magazines. But the screens and masks were fine by me, and with the other customers from what I could see.
The main issue though was lots of clients having to self isolate at the last minute. I got a cheap deal as so many clients had called up to say they couldn't come in.

The other week I noticed two consecutive posts on Instagram by two local businesses that I follow.
One a pub (but more at the gastro-end, less old man pub) who instagrammed a photo of a packed pub from pre-CV and said “can’t wait to get back to this on 19th July” - hundreds of likes and comments.
The second a local high-ish end independent restaurant which said that after thinking it over and consulting with regulars they’d decided that lower capacity, masks, perspective screens etc will remain and nothing will change going forward. Lots of likes and comments that they are “doing the right thing”

I haven’t been to either recently because .. children .. but I can’t help but think oh God I miss the pub, I miss queuing at the bar.. I don’t miss the few times I dined out next to a plastic screen and had to put my mask on to go to the loo even if I didn’t pass next to anyone. I am wondering which will cave first or if both will keep going and keep making money.

Haha
Mindymomo · 24/07/2021 18:39

I’m due in hairdressers next week, so will see what the arrangement is then. I wonder if the extra £2 for cleaning and PPE will be scrapped.

One thing I definitely haven't missed is queuing at the bar. I would love it if table service were here to stay, in fact I would probably go out more!
DoctorSnortles · 24/07/2021 18:47

I've just changed my hairdressers. My usual one was terrible before restrictions were even dropped- people packed in, told we only had to wear masks if we wanted to, all doors and windows closed because 'people were cold.' Have cancelled with them and booked at another place that has safety measures in place. That's just what I'm going to do, going forward - give my custom to places run by people with sense.

PetuniaButterworth · 24/07/2021 18:48

My hairdresser still wears PPE and wants all her client to sign a form to confirm they've had the vaccine or she will refuse service. She's an excellent hairdresser but I won't be back

PrincessNutNuts · 24/07/2021 18:50

I've left A and looked for a B.

The front door wide open, not crowded, and masks worn, were my criteria.

A is a covid factory.

MareofBeasttown · 24/07/2021 18:51

I would prefer B but my local hairdresser is now A.

AlmostSummer21 · 24/07/2021 18:52

It's a shame people aren't booking with the infinitely more sensible B salon.

If you want to go to A, then do, but stop putting B down

So you want your hairdresser to risk serious illness to cut your hair?

Why?
SonnetForSpring · 24/07/2021 18:56

Agree. I would definitely use B. What a shame for them.

monstermunch1 · 24/07/2021 18:57

I found it so sad how much plastic hairdressers alone have used since covid - including disposable towels!! thank the lord Hairdressers A are sensible enough not to keep contributing to such waste.
