The tail of two hairdressers……:

Rabblesthecat · 24/07/2021 18:23

So on my high street there are two very good hairdressers - a and b

I’ve used both over the years but more recently b. Mainly because when they reopened last summer A were hard to get hold of.

B requires stylists to have full PPE and client to wear a mask at all times. Nothing as changed since they reopened last summer and they intend
To continue that way going forward

A on the other hand - back to normal. Magazines and coffees provided. Stylists will wear a mask if requested by the client. Client can do as they wish.

I’m booked in with A next month. I could get an appointment with B tomorrow.

Driving past both. B had tumbleweed and A was fully booked and people waiting.

Just a local
Observation

@Rabblesthecat

Interesting that the majority here choose B but evidence of footfall of my town in the southwest shows the public are overwhelmingly A
It's interesting because in my small market town in Hampshire there is an overwhelming majority still wearing masks and social distancing. Possibly even more so now. To my surprise I've seen a fair number of teens still wearing their masks when shopping too. It's really restored my faith in our local community. As far as I know, pretty much everywhere is still a B here. Hopefully it will stay that way
TempsPerdu · 24/07/2021 21:48

I’d be booking into A like a shot. My usual hairdresser still requires full PPE etc. Wore a mask there for a three hour appointment (highlights/cut/blow dry) last week - not only was I incredibly hot and uncomfortable by the end but the colour they used dripped all down my face and lodged under the mask, leaving me with brown-tinted skin for several days afterwards. I’d love to ditch the masks and have coffee and magazines back; it’s no longer a pleasant or relaxing experience as it stands.

Carycy · 24/07/2021 21:50

Thing is if you go to b you can still get track and traced so it won’t stop them getting shut down. Or will it? Not sure.

Pootle40 · 24/07/2021 21:51

I dream of getting back to A and if I could would go now

As is literally everyone I know irl. I don’t know where all these super cautious people are, but they’re certainly not in my part of north London!

Whathefisgoingon · 24/07/2021 21:54

Absolutely B!

Chillychangchoo · 24/07/2021 22:09

I would pick the most talented stylist tbh. So either A or B. I wouldn’t pick my hair stylist with covid restrictions/lack of restrictions in mind.

I wait absolutely ages for my hairdresser because she is so in demand and I would never see anybody else in this city so I’ll just do whatever her salon requests.

Frazzled2207 · 24/07/2021 22:15

My hairdresser is doing b. I fully support them as do the vast majority of their clients as far as I am aware.

whattodo2019 · 24/07/2021 22:22

There are so many friends
here in the south with covid. They all caught it in cornwall last week.

Flawedperfection · 24/07/2021 22:26

Do you mean tale or is tail a pun in your title, OP. And before anyone roasts me, it’s a genuine question!

MrsMiddleMother · 24/07/2021 22:27

Would definitely prefer B.

sulee · 25/07/2021 08:31

B.

Onthedowns · 25/07/2021 08:39

@Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby

Support B for doing the right thing for employees and customers.
Exactly my hairdresser still very busy and has these in place plus her mother is extremely poorly despite being vaccinated she is still concerned about transmission
anon12345678901 · 25/07/2021 08:49

Mine is like B and is still jam packed.
Although I live in a London Town and masks are still very much worn here.

Imissmoominmama · 25/07/2021 08:50

@herecomesthsun- how do you drink your coffee and eat your biscuits with a mask on?

Imissmoominmama · 25/07/2021 08:57

I shop daily, rather than weekly, and have been looking to see whether people here have ditched their masks. I’ve only seen one person without one in our local Booths, and his partner was still wearing hers.

On a related note, my friend is currently in icu with Covid. She has had both jabs; I’m not taking any chances. I’ll be wearing mine at the hairdressers for the foreseeable.

Whammyyammy · 25/07/2021 09:14

A sounds great, B sounds awful but thats my choice.
Luckily op you can choose, A or B? It's entirely up to you, you're a big girl now.

Whammyyammy · 25/07/2021 09:16
@herecomesthsun- how do you drink your coffee and eat your biscuits with a mask on?
By removing the mask to eat the biscuits or drink the coffee, thus renderingthe mask pointlessin the first place. But retaining the mask Halo obviously 🤣🤣🤣

Maskless · 25/07/2021 09:29

"So you want your hairdresser to risk serious illness to cut your hair?"

EVERY hairdresser since time immemorial has risked catching viruses from clients. They knew that when they trained for the job that this is a daily risk when in close proximity with a stream of strangers every day.

I once caught chicken pox off schoolboys in a library without being as close as a hairdresser gets.

Get a grip!

Ah well that makes it ok. If you caught chicken pox from someone else then of course the logical conclusion from that is that nobody else must take any form of mitigation against illness or disease.

It’s kinda like saying that there is no point wearing a condom because you caught a cold once when having sex.

Honestly, I think I might have to take a break from the coronavirus board because it’s just too random for me on here sometimes.

DumplingsAndStew · 25/07/2021 10:14

Mumsnetters seem to live in worlds of extremes. It doesn't have to be A or B, there's a middle ground.

My hairdresser, wear a mask, don't supply reading materials or refreshments. You bring your own coffee or drink, and book/magazine/kindle. Toilet is there if you need it. Everything is wiped down between clients. Doors and windows are open, and any shared materials (comb, hair clips etc) is sterilised after use.

burnoutbabe · 25/07/2021 10:48

One of my local hairdressers is asking clients to bring towels. Seems sensible for the environment and most people would be attending from their house anyway as it's not in the town centre.

I have noticed that some local salons have put prices up £10-£20 and dropped the bow dry. Which is annoying. I'm happy to not bother with a proper blow dry to reduce time in the salon but I don't want to pay 50% more for less service.

DumplingsAndStew · 25/07/2021 11:07

@burnoutbabe

Bringing own towel is a fantastic idea! In any times! I'd be happy to do that.

alreadytaken · 25/07/2021 11:12

Will not be getting my hair cut anytime soon unless I can find a B.

swg1 · 25/07/2021 16:25

I'd prefer B. What's more, while B's business may be slower A may have regrets if an outbreak takes out one stylist after another.
