Who are these White Rose kooks?

Recently, everywhere I've been, I found thermal printed stickers stuck to lamposts, railings, shop windows etc.

Same print format and similar sentiments - across the West Midlands and beyond.

However, the heatwave has deformed the message (GENIUS move with the thermal paper there, guys) and people are ripping the stickers down pretty promptly.

I finally found them on Telegram and weirdly, it's just like a pyramid scheme.

The main page tells followers to buy a printer, download the sticker templates and stick them to things.

Antivax, contrarian, anti-authoritarian - there doesn't seem to be much of any thought behind the 'movement', other than a pretty childish stomping of feet.

Who are these people and wtf is Telegram?

I shall have to look out for these, I need a laugh!
Yeah, thermal printers... they're great for a few months but then... Grin

I keep seeing "crafter's" scrapbooking with them, and I wonder what they'll think when they look back at their work in a couple of years time?

MenaiMna · 22/07/2021 13:04

Telegram is a messenger app (like what'sapp) that was very popular with anti-blm/capitol riot types in America last year. So that fits right in with the message on the posters.

It's offensive to the original White Rose Group of Nazi Germany.

megletthesecond · 22/07/2021 13:15

I don't know. But I do pull them off and bin them.

Gingernaut · 22/07/2021 13:16

Usually 'white rose' here in England, tends to have racist connotations.

Absolutely

I doubt they've heard of the resistance group. I expect they watched a few seasons of Mr Robot and are now convinced they (if there are more than 1) are the only people who've seen the 'truth'.
markmichelle · 22/07/2021 13:23

And I thought that coloured roses were about Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Ah well!

knittingaddict · 22/07/2021 13:24

Original White Rose = good.

Current White Rose = bad.

The people who put those stickers up are far right, anti vaccine, anti lockdown conspiracy theorists.

The original White Rose members were heros.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 22/07/2021 13:26

I’m in the west of scotland and see them the other day too! I meant to look it up

knittingaddict · 22/07/2021 13:27

I'm wrong apparently. They are anti fascist. Confused

IShouldProbablyHooverMore · 22/07/2021 13:30

Sadly, I think many of them are aware - my family included. They believe they're fighting the same battle.

knittingaddict · 22/07/2021 13:30

Whatever they are they are loons.

That’s right. I don’t support them but they are anti fascist as they are against restrictions etc.
Marmite27 · 22/07/2021 15:55

See to me, White Rose means a shopping centre outside Leeds city centre.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/07/2021 15:56

I thought White Rose was a maths scheme used in many schools!

So libertarians? Wouldn't they be more alined with Republicans in the US? I'm UK born and bred, but trying to understand where they fit in politically.

knittingaddict · 22/07/2021 16:21

Sorry, bold fail.

I clicked because I thought this was going to be about Yorkshire folk, of which I'm one.

I had the same thought and I'm not even from Yorkshire Grin

physicskate · 22/07/2021 16:31

@thenightsky me too. I'm mildly offended that the lovely white rose of the house of York has anything to do with a current political agenda that offends, demonises or in any way disenfranchises anyone but those devil red rose lancastrians 😉
