I live in quite a rural area and our numbers have sky rocketed after having really low cases the while way through until now. The most we ever had previous to this was 170 ish in a week and today I looked and up to 450....

I'm in the North east - my postcode is insanely high!

So obviously a good moment to throw away our masks, and abandon social distancing Hmm

IvorHughJarrs · 19/07/2021 21:08

High here in the North West too... Sad

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/07/2021 21:11

153 per 100,000 in our part of South Wales.

That’s gone up a lot and is still going up

My hometown has a case rate of 1700+ per 100k. Needless to say I’m continuing to wear a mask at the moment!

joystir59 · 19/07/2021 21:17

North Yorkshire town, numbers are insanely high after being almost zero for ages

pintsizeprincess · 19/07/2021 21:18

I'm in worcs and cases have risen to 450 where I am. It's a big jump in the last 2 weeks.

Mreggsworth · 19/07/2021 21:26

I'm in north east too. I haven't heard anything but covid anywhere I go as literally everyone and everything is being effected by it here. Even walking my dogs this morning I passed two people both on the phone, one expressing concern for a relative with covid and later another talking about how they are working from home due to isolation numbers in their office. Then went to a pharmacy and was asked to come back in evening to pick prescription off as they hadn't managed to get a pharmacist in yet as their normal locums are isolating.

I feel like it is interrupting things more with having 'freedom' than when there were some restrictions. Most people I know just seemed to get on with things now it's running rampant it's just interfering with everything.

Backofbeyond50 · 19/07/2021 21:58

355 per 100K in a fairly rural area. Below average apparently. Let's just hope the vaccines keep working.
Some of these figures are insane.

If masks are so effective, then surely cases wouldn’t be so high?!
Titsywoo · 19/07/2021 22:17

If the cases are mainly in school kids who don't wear masks in the classroom and from events like the football where no masks were worn that would certainly explain it.

StealthPolarBear · 19/07/2021 22:18

Also in the North East. I've never known so any affected, with it, isolating etc.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/07/2021 22:19

Nearly 400 here. I remember when we were really worried as it was around 170 in the autumn.

Those were the days…

YellowBellyCat · 19/07/2021 22:22

Or they could have been worse without masks? 🤷‍♀️

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/07/2021 22:23

Higher here than they've ever been, at the height of lockdown it was 40 per 100,000 now it's 340!

LawnFever · 19/07/2021 22:24

How many of those cases are resulting in hospitalisations though? Isn’t that the real issue?

Most people who test positive who I know aren’t seriously ill with it, so cases doesn’t seem like a useful measurement to me.

Musicaltheatremum · 19/07/2021 22:25

We were over 1000/ 100000 in Edinburgh. Now falling ..about 400/100000but more restrictions here. Been horrific but we are I hope coming out the other side

Wizzbangfizz · 19/07/2021 22:27

Exactly @TerritorialPissings but the mask zealots are falling over themselves to dismiss that!

hellcatspangle · 19/07/2021 22:29

Ours are high too and I know lots of positive cases - but I haven't heard of a single person being bed bound or needing hospital treatment (and I knew quite a few who were really ill during the previous waves)

Workyticket · 19/07/2021 22:35

Mine was the 1555/100,000 one. Our hospitalisation isn't great either

WeirdArchitecture · 19/07/2021 22:54

Staying in NW with family at moment, 408 cases locally in a very large town. Oddly, the highest rates in the area are in the wealthy parts.
Nobody really bothering to wear masks in shops or transport here.

When I leave, if I forget my coat on the way out, I wont be popping back to pick it up.

Divebar2021 · 19/07/2021 23:15

I was in my town today and most people were still wearing masks… I saw 2 or 3 without that’s it.

Houseofvelour · 19/07/2021 23:27

North West

I'm starting to get nervous again after months of feeling safer.
I will only be having play dates in the park from now on and no more soft play centres.

Can't believe the new case numbers in my area.
