I live in quite a rural area and our numbers have sky rocketed after having really low cases the while way through until now. The most we ever had previous to this was 170 ish in a week and today I looked and up to 450....

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

According to the BBC 385 per 100K in my area. 80% fully vaccinated and 62% have had one. I'd be interested to know about hospital admissions for the area but I don't know where to find that.
If you go to the gov.uk covid dashboard and type in your postcode it'll give you the info.

Seems to be going way up in England again and coming down in Scotland. We were really high last month compared to many parts in England including London.

Strange how it goes.

FakeColinCaterpillar · 20/07/2021 10:29

Very high part of the NE too. They were talking about (CEV) husband going back in this week after being at home since last March.
Hopefully are backtracking on the idea (even though I’d love the peace)

knittingaddict · 20/07/2021 10:41

@rwalker

Does it matter how many cases we have it's how many people in hospital and dying from it thats important . We are in the 400+ for the last few weeks in the NW there 6 people in hospital with it and no deaths
Yes it does matter. As others have said, businesses are struggling because of people isolating. That's only going to get worse.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/07/2021 10:48

Thanks @TheVampiresWife, I've found it.

The last available data shows one admission that day and 9 in the previous 7 days

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/07/2021 11:05

We can only open things up and let it rip if self isolation stops too.
We can’t have it all ways.
High case numbers currently means high numbers of people self isolating which doesn’t make for a successful economy any more than lockdowns do.
Having said that, I’m in Wales where we still have far more precautions in place.

wasthataburp · 20/07/2021 11:07

Cases are irrelevant. I wish they would stop reporting on that. It's deaths OF Covid and hospitalisations that matter.

gardeninggirl68 · 20/07/2021 11:20

Not heard of any new variants for a while now....unless I've missed it?

Delta was last I heard of

HopeHappy · 20/07/2021 11:37

Our local rates are at 313 per 100,000 but hospitalisation and deaths are very, very low.

0 deaths in the last 7 days and only 5 hospitalisations in the whole of the local NHS Trust which apparently covers over 500,000 people.

Only 4 patients currently in hospital and 2 are ventilated.

I'm not saying it's not mad to be letting everyone get back to "normal" and I'll certainly be continuing to wear a mask, but it does seem like the vaccines are having an effect in my area at least.

The proof will be in the pudding in another 3 weeks from now, of course.

The general pattern tends to be a hotspot appearing (often inner city) then ripples out to the suburbs and rural areas. There's a few rough weeks as it peaks and plateaus and then calms.

Until now restrictions have generally capped those peaks and accelerated the decline, but some areas had previously naturally done that before national intervention (happened in my area just before the November lockdown)

It is more sensible to let it occur through the lower pressure summer when there are more outdoor opportunities to reduce personal risk and let peoples' immune systems have a big update, not just for Covid but all the usual seasonal illnesses that seem to have clung on in the wings and seem to have re-emerged out of season.

2 months ago my county had 5 active cases, luckily I'm in an area where it's not been overwhelming till now.
After reading this thread, thought I'd check on the app, 488 cases now.

restrictions and lockdowns are killing businesses but at least they'll have staff even if they are on the verge of going under .

This.
KOKOagainandagain · 20/07/2021 15:36

Are you suggesting that the government suppress data or that media do?

How would that work domestically? There were 500 admissions today and sadly 50 deaths. There might have been 1,000 or 50,000 confirmed infections but you don't have to worry your pretty head about that. You don't need to work out CFR I'll tell you what to think and I'm the meantime here's some funny cat videos.

And internationally - UK mad experiment followed by data suppression. Is there a link?

Workyticket · 20/07/2021 17:30

We're up to 1666 / 100000 now!

Backofbeyond50 · 20/07/2021 17:33

355 per 100K in a fairly rural area. Below average apparently. Let's just hope the vaccines keep working.
Some of these figures are insane.

Scrub that. Nearly 500 a day later.

Backofbeyond50 · 20/07/2021 17:35

Deaths up today too.

PurpleDaisies · 20/07/2021 17:38

It’s usually around 50/100 000 here with the blob right at the far left of the chart. Today it’s over 1000/100 000, and we’re right at the top of the comparison with the rest of the country. It’s exploded in the past week or so.

3asAbird · 20/07/2021 17:42

672 for bristol Council today
Highest ever

musicalfrog · 20/07/2021 22:03

@treedragon

360 per 100,000 where I am and that’s shot up. Where are people getting it? Are they just being careless?
So rude!
Backofbeyond50 · 21/07/2021 16:44

Seems to be rising hy 100 per 100k daily in my area.

littletinyboxes · 21/07/2021 16:49

Cases in my nearest town are now over 1500 per 100,000. This is the first time in the whole of the pandemic that I personally know quite a few people with Covid. Schools have not yet broken up for the summer but loads of children are isolating. We're also a tourist town and the town centre/pubs/restaurants/attractions are getting insanely busy.
