I live in quite a rural area and our numbers have sky rocketed after having really low cases the while way through until now. The most we ever had previous to this was 170 ish in a week and today I looked and up to 450....

Also here in the South West - outbreaks and closures of pubs and businesses (post footy mixing I suspect) - Also, a colleague’s son and 14 mates went to the final at Wembley and all returned positive - all of them! Not good ...

Gertie75 · 19/07/2021 23:31

490 by me and 720 about 5 miles up the road

PickAChew · 19/07/2021 23:38

Also north east - actually slowly coming down in my county after the locality next door had the highest rate in the country, a couple of weeks ago - plummeted as soon as students started to go home! The region is still a sea of red, though.

Can't believe the new case numbers in my area.

Rocketing rates in south west at mo, holiday makers everywhere and this weekend is busiest weekend for changeovers and travel usually - we are at 970 per 100k and it’s increasing. We were down to 0 for a while not long ago as all through have t got much above 100!

The holiday makers seem oblivious but hoping penny is starting to drop as so many pubs and restaurants shut due to isolations and big problems brewing for holiday changeovers this weekend with severe lack of staff

If those numbers are cases per 100,000 rather than absolute numbers and you're in a low population density area you only need an outbreak in one school, workplace or extended family to make the ratio look really high.

Having said that, you can't deny case numbers are skyrocketing. Over 1000 per 100k in some areas of my city.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 20/07/2021 03:26

My city (in Canada) was up to 1879.9 in early May - the highest in North America. It’s now down to 6.

Motorina · 20/07/2021 05:57

Crazy high in my bit of rural nowhere. But there are precisely two cases in the local hospital.

BillyShears · 20/07/2021 06:07

Fuck! 500 odd in my bit of London!! That’s the worst I’ve ever seen it.

Does it matter how many cases we have it's how many people in hospital and dying from it thats important .
We are in the 400+ for the last few weeks in the NW there 6 people in hospital with it and no deaths

AbsolutelyPatsy · 20/07/2021 06:57

perhaps they want the peak now rather than in september?

TheNewBlack · 20/07/2021 07:08

I think you are spot on. A peak in the winter will threaten to overwhelm the NHS due to winter pressures. A peak now is more manageable.

Assuming of course people won’t get it twice.

motherrunner · 20/07/2021 07:08

35, 000 new cases in my area, rolling average is 40,000.

VanGoSunflowers · 20/07/2021 07:23

Ours was at 900odd the other week, it’s come down slightly to just under 500 now

PeonyTime · 20/07/2021 07:32

Yes, it's great that serious hospitalisations are down - however our local hospital has admissions similar to March last year - however we now have so many cases (over 1000/100,000) that stuff cant operate. Weve just been told that they cant empty the bin this week. Shops are shutting, pubs and restaurants are having to close because they cant be staffed.

I dont know how schools stopping soon for the summer vs reducing of restrictions is going to work, but I don't think it's going to be an easy summer.

Nengineer · 20/07/2021 07:32

Grockles

DirtySofa · 20/07/2021 08:05

Wait til the numbers rise in London - will be interesting to see what happens then.

roguetomato · 20/07/2021 08:11

Same here. Never went so high in last waves, but now our area is in purple.

ILookAtTheFloor · 20/07/2021 08:15

My village was over 1000 per 100,000 over Xmas, it's not as bad as that at the moment.

Essex was very bad during the Alpha wave.

And emmets, if you're in CornwallGrin
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/07/2021 08:49

Cases round me were 3 for months.

Now they’re 30!

treedragon · 20/07/2021 09:38

360 per 100,000 where I am and that’s shot up. Where are people getting it? Are they just being careless?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/07/2021 10:09

According to the BBC 385 per 100K in my area. 80% fully vaccinated and 62% have had one. I'd be interested to know about hospital admissions for the area but I don't know where to find that.

Hophop26 · 20/07/2021 10:11

Delta is more contagious, they are getting it in usual every day places like work, supermarket, shops, schools, on the bus, at the pub…..
