Who is testing positive? Have they been vaccinated? Are they very ill?

Just as the title really. Loads of cases in our Secondary school, almost non of the kids or vaccinated, and no-one is really very ill with it of the cases I've heard about. So who is testing positive - just the unvaccinated?

I was positive! Fully vaccinated since May, was a very mild illness in the end thank god, like a cold.

jay55 · 19/07/2021 11:36

One of my dad's friends, double jabbed a while back (over 70) tested positive last week. Probably caught from a grandchild.

Blueskysinjune · 19/07/2021 11:43

I am positive, 2 jabs from april. Husband is also positive, had his 2nd last week. 2 year old who bought it home from nursery, positive. 5 year old is the only one who tested negative. My husband and I have had a couple of days of cold symptoms, 2 year old has nothing.

LostThings · 19/07/2021 11:47

I know 3 people with it at the moment. Double jabbed 40 year old - aches and has cold symptoms- thinks he caught it watching football at Wembley. 21 year old has had one jab, feeling quite poorly with it. Also thinks caught it at Wembley (different match to the 40 year old though). 25 year old also has had one jab, feeling very poorly with it - thinks caught it at local pub. All in Essex.

Just listening to Radio 4. Presenter calling Evan Davies (he’s at home cos he’s tested positive, double jabbed, only a bit unwell not too bad). They’ve quoted stars saying that roughly 50 per cent of those testing positive are either double or single jabbed. No stats on the make up of hospital admissions though.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 19/07/2021 11:51

Stats not stars 🙄

SirVixofVixHall · 19/07/2021 11:57

I know five people currently with Covid, all double jabbed, a mix of AZ and Pfizer . Age range twenties to eighties. The 70 year old has been the most unwell so far but nobody hospitalised thankfully.

Katya213 · 19/07/2021 12:07

A lady where my dad lives died, she was unvaccinated and in her thirties with no health problems.

HotHointheavo · 19/07/2021 12:12

a colleague and his whole family have tested positive. Under 18's and double jabbed asymptomatic. Mum who has had no jabs been quite poorly

CastawayQueen · 19/07/2021 12:24

I’m Single vaccinated, second time Covid. Early 30’s, healthy and active.
First time I was unvaxxed and had zero symptoms (only found out because of contact tracing otherwise I’d never have tested and never known).

Second time flu symptoms (after vax). Mild fever, blocked nose, cough that HOWEVER complete loss of smell and taste. 10 days later I still have a blocked nose, slight cough and no smell/taste.

There’s honestly nothing we can do to not get it short of locking down as masks, visors etc dont protect. And as we can’t lock down forever at this point it’s just go out and live, and pray that you’re not one of the unlucky ones. I’m aware that I’m comparatively luckier but 10% of people never recover their smell or taste (that’s a lot). It’s just hopeless …

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/07/2021 12:25

i think it is still age dependent

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 19/07/2021 12:31

Dds boyfriend has it..early 20’s

He hasn’t been vaccinated and although not at all well on the first two days he seems to be on the mend

StrongLegs · 19/07/2021 12:40

My Ds has covid just now. He has a temperature and a cough, but is fine with calpol and youtube so far. Positive on LFT and PCR.

My Dh is double jabbed, I'm still just single jabbed because of bad side effects from the first one. We're still testing negative on LFT so far.

We all had covid last March, so are on our second go.

bertieb7 · 19/07/2021 12:48

I just tested positive after one phizer vaccine. I feel like I have regular winter flu so just self medicating with lemsip, water and rest. DH seems to have avoided it so far so I am isolating away from him in another part of the flat.

Symptoms started with what felt like a head cold and sniffles and in the space of one day progressed to fever, chills, and muscle ache. I also have a mild cough.

I think I may have picked it up on the tube but can't be sure.

sulee · 19/07/2021 13:32

My DD, her my partner( both single jabbed) and three month old all have it and really poorly though have not needed admission to hospital so far.
BIL(double jabbed teacher) has flu like symptoms, two colleagues, both double jabbed, one hospitalised another really rough and off work for two weeks so far.
All different parts of England too. It’s the first time I’ve known so many people with COVID, albeit mostly younger people so hopefully the NHS will cope as my DH and DS (both clinicians) say their services are at breaking point

hattmancockk · 19/07/2021 13:41

My son is 19 and he and 3 of his friends have it. He has had one jab and is less poorly than those who haven't.

It's the knock on effect on everyone else that is a ball-ache.

Absolutely

Dd is isolating til sunday night…and has tested negative as of yesterday

But if she shows symptoms we all have to isolate and that mean can’t go to ds1 graduation, cant have my nephew down, cant see my brother when he visits my dad etc

This is consistent with Israeli stats, infections aren’t much lower in the vaccinated but serious illness is.
StrongLegs · 20/07/2021 05:46

I've got it from DS now, but DH has not yet. I'm single jabbed, and the symptoms didn't hit me like a train this time, as they did last time. Same symptoms, but more like being hit side-on by a medium sized wave at the seaside, if you know what I mean. Hope it doesn't last eons this time. All fingers crossed.

Silkiecats · 20/07/2021 06:00

I only know of secondary school kids none of whom are very ill with it, don't know anyone who has been very ill with it all pandemic though.

I'm late 40s and only just had second jab, we were given 12 weeks apart appointments and its 14 days or so before effective so lots of population will still be on one jab.

LJC1234 · 20/07/2021 07:11

I currently know more people than any other wave with covid .

2 - 1 jab and due seconds. felt like they had a bad headache and then thought they were suffering with hay fever. Both felt fine after 3/4 days

1 - had only had first jab for about 3 days and caught it. Felt like flu. Totally off their feet and in bed for 3 days and took 2 weeks to recover

1 - No jab. Felt awful . Admitted to hospital on day 10 due to oxygen levels . Under 40. Fit and healthy prior

I know it's not everyone's case but the people I know are giving me faith in the vaccinations. The ones vaccinated are getting it much milder.

I appreciate that's not everyone's experience thou.

FlagsFiend · 20/07/2021 07:16

@Oblomov21

What age groups are only single vaccinated other than very young 18-25 year olds who have only just been offered their first? Everyone else should be double jabbed. I don't know anyone, any adult, who isn't double jabbed.

And I don't have much sympathy for those not taking up the vaccine. Other than for medical reasons. But we know it's largely not for medical reasons.
Eg : wonkeylegs "Vaccine uptake in the area isn't great and the case rate is extremely high. "
Why have they not taken up the vaccine?

I'm 35, had my first jab the day after it opened for my age group but not had second yet. Had it booked at 8 weeks (which was a couple of days ago) but currently having to isolate due to school so have had to push it back. So anyone younger than me may not be eligible for second jab yet...
TwitterTwatterofTinyMinds · 20/07/2021 09:59

DC had it, with almost no symptoms at all (was tested as a close contact of a confirmed case) other than a high temp for about 8 hours.

I caught it from DC - having been double jabbed. So far it's like a heavy cold. Not much fun in this heat, but nothing I'd think to trouble a doctor for... Hoping it means the jabs are working and we can all get back out and about once isolation ends.

Darbs76 · 20/07/2021 10:10

I’m positive now, test came back yesterday. I am double vaccinated. Caught it from DS (16). Not really unwell but feel very flu like, aching like mad, fatigue, coughing and my chest feels like I’ve got a lot of mucus trapped there
