You have to quarantine if coming back from France, doubly vaccinated or not.

@theotherfossilsister
I am going to suggest something a bit unorthodox & it depends very much if you can get in to see or speak to your doctor & if he/she is sympathetic
Deep breath: I think that this sounds like you need a break for stress /mental health issues - explain to your doctor & provide proof if you can & if you get emotional all well & good - carers break???

Sirzy · 16/07/2021 21:22

@theotherfossilsister

Thank you so much all of you. It's so hard. Just on the phone to them now. If my Dad was well we could meet in Italy instead but he's not.

Do people think it will change by the autumn maybe?

I went off sick last year after another bereavement so I feel like I can't do that again

Apparently all my parents neighbours are refusing the vaccine. I am so so angry.

In your position I would go off sick. I have just said the same to DP but thankfully his mum although aging is at the moment fit and healthy.

Hope you manage to get there soon

Largethighsbadeyes · 16/07/2021 21:24

Definitely go off sick and go see your parents!!

TwoBlueFish · 16/07/2021 21:27

Supposed to be going next week. Haven’t see my dad in 3 years. I can’t work from home so can’t quarantine, I’m completely gutted 😭

This is going to get confusing again

Thank you. I might, the problem is I was off for stress and anxiety last year after a friend died suddenly (I promise my life isn't all doom and gloom) so don't know if I can go off like that again.

It is genuinely making me stressed and anxious though. Although I'm nowhere near as much of a mess as I was last year.

theotherfossilsister · 16/07/2021 21:29

@twobluefish I'm sorry, it's rubbish xx

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/07/2021 21:31

Why is anyone still taken by surprise by these developments? This is going to happen for months, at least, as infection rates rise and fall.
Isn’t that obvious 🤷‍♀️

Would have been nice to announce it yesterday or on Wednesday rather than on a Friday at 9pm

Also for many of us traveling abroad means seeing our families so apologies for feeling devastated when rules change. It’s not surprise. It’s frustration

IsabellesMissingSock · 16/07/2021 21:37

This is utterly ridiculous. And why the late announcement? People will have been planning to travel tomorrow morning and probably can't contact airlines etc to reschedule now.

MeltingSnowflake · 16/07/2021 21:41

@theotherfossilsister I'm so sorry - I'm in a similar position as my elderly father lives in France and has recently had a stroke. I haven't seen him since Christmas and he has been on his own since then as my mother died late last year.

It's SO SO SO frustrating - especially as a lot of people only think of it impacting holidays (which is bad enough) and forget there are actually a lot of us with family we haven't seen in a long time.

I hope you manage to find a way there Flowers

TwoBlueFish · 16/07/2021 21:42

It’s shit isn’t is it @theotherfossilsister. Lots of hugs to you.

babbaloushka · 16/07/2021 21:51

@theotherfossilsister

It's horrible. My elderly parents live there and my Dad has pancreatic cancer. Work cannot let me have the leave plus quarantine so there goes my chance of seeing them. I'm devastated.
Flowers is there an option for extended compassionate? My DM had pancreatic, please PM if you need any support- I lived away from her at the time too.

To announce this on a Friday just days after letting people hope they can see their families again?

It’s inhumane. This government are so hateful.

Variants my arse. They’ve been brewing Wembley variants they’ll happily export whilst keeping families apart. No other country has such draconian measures. Life is going on in Europe while Boris is fucking up our lives.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/07/2021 22:07

They let everybody and their cousin to the football games.

No one worried about numbers and variants.

But that was football, and all's fair for football.

justasking111 · 16/07/2021 22:11

The beta variant is from South Africa. I thought that was here but the Indian one overtook it

mynameiscalypso · 16/07/2021 22:12

We were supposed to go on Monday. Can't quarantine so will have to cancel. My parents are there and apparently there have been 88 delta variant cases in the last 4 weeks and the numbers are falling. It's a bloody joke. I said to DH this evening that I would jinx it if I started packing. He told me not to be so silly and so I packed. Hey presto.

ginghamstarfish · 16/07/2021 22:15

Sorry for those affected but surely you have to bear in mind that this can happen given the nature of the pandemic? each to their own but I can't see how a foreign holiday is of such importance that you would take this risk.

justasking111 · 16/07/2021 22:15

AHH digging further the astra zeneca jab doesn't fight the beta variant off as low as 10%

So why were thousands allowed to travel without any restrictions for the Euro and now holidays are a risk?

One is a risk and the other one wasn't?

It’s not about holidays for everyone. My partner hasn’t seen his mum since March 2020 he was booked to go over next week and now can’t.

The sudden change is shit for those who can’t see loved ones

ginghamstarfish · 16/07/2021 22:23

Yes, as I said I am sorry for those affected and do realise that not all travel is for holidays. However I am a bit sick of people whinging about this very subject when they are going on a holiday, in the middle of a pandemic with rapidly changing rules, who then moan about these changes.

Moonlight1972 · 16/07/2021 22:23

I’m devastated, I haven’t seen my parents in ages
